A more extensive review
- Pros: Decently fast and great for the price. Boots up Windows (see cons) in about 1 minute, excluding however long it takes you to enter your password. Keys are intuitive and easy to use. Sleek design (dark blue like others have said) with minimal intrusive bright or blinking lights.
- Cons: Since it is a full keyboard, the far-left keys feel awkward to type, since where you would put your hands just isn't there. 3DMark06 score is 3750, which is about half of a desktop with a single-core P4 3.0Ghz and a 7800GT with 256mb of RAM, so the specs on this laptop can be deceiving. Changing the power settings to "Performance" got me another 16 points (negligible), and it loaded just a bit faster. Media buttons aren't immediately compatible with Winamp, and attempt to install Media Player when you press them. There is a huge amount of useless-ware (as others have mentioned) that is installed when you first unpack. Hit the windows key+r, then type in "msconfig" and go to the Startup tab to disable most of them, keep your security and power management stuff. After that, it starts up in 1 min as mentioned in the "pros" section above. USB ports are all very close the front, which is awkward for some components that are big or you don't normally unplug
- Other Thoughts: If you'd call it a con, the keyboard has some give to it, and the arrow keys are quite loud. Pressing a key hard causes the whole keyboard area to depress inward. Using SpeedFan, CPU temps got all the way up to 73C when running 3DMark06 WITH a notebook cooler, which is insanely high. I wonder if the processor life is shortened by those temperatures. Idles around 46-52C. However, despite these high temperatures, the outside of the laptop doesn't get very hot.
Overall, happy with my purchase, but it's good to be informed.
200 GB
- Pros: Uknown...just ordered
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: Just a comment, on the review that stated the manufacturer is lying about specs. You can use google to find out that the true usable space of any HDD is less then what the physical capacity is. It has to do with formatting, sector size, "hot blocks", and a few other things. The true formatted size of any 320GB drive IS 300GB. Please do some research before slandering a company....
PS I did order one, and I will be posting my review about 1 month after arrival.

Great First Laptop
- Pros: Price $650 on sale, fastest AMD mobile processor, decent graphics(it can run mass effect on max, but just game on my custom desktop), 4GB ram(only 667Mhz, but still good), really beautiful screen(1366X768), great sound(I'm a musician so I love music and this thing has great bass for a laptop), good quality webcam and microphone(I use them for recording acoustic songs), great wireless(It picks up wireless signal very well), big 300GB hard drive, nice touchpad, and it looks sexy haha
- Cons: webcam does not work in sunlight (screen goes all white), battery life is only about 1-3 hours depending on what you're doing, usually I play music and go on the internet at the same time so it drains faster),
- Other Thoughts: When I first got it I played around and discovered the incredible amount of bloatware, so did a fresh install of vista 64 and deleted the recovery partition, but I downloaded the drivers before all of this. AFterwards I updated it, install the drivers, transfered all of files from my desktop(music and video), install programs, tweaked vista and it's been great. To tweak vista I just turned off system restore, disabled aero glass and animation effects( to save power), disabled the page file, changed the power settings of battery saver so that the processor could reach 100%, defragmented the Hard drive, and so on. I love this laptop and have no regrets :)
DO NOT BUY!
- Pros: Hmmm...
- Cons: It was junk. Within 24 hrs (just long enough to load up lots of stuff!), it started making a sound like SAND grinding! I have ABSOLUTELY had it with Acer. This is my THIRD LEMON from them!
- Other Thoughts: Three strikes and you ARE OUT
AS6530 - Amazing Laptop at an Amazing Price!
- Pros: -First off, this is one of the best deals on Newegg that I've seen.
-The case is very sturdy and the computer has an overall great build quality. The CPU is powerful enough to handle all of my applications (including multiple 3d/programming dev applications). The integrated ATi graphics card (HD 3650) scores a 5.1 for gaming graphics (Vista) and is great for gaming and using 3D programs. The CPU/GPU combination can handle all of my games, (Halo 2, Fallout 3, Shadowrun, Gears of War, Oblivion, Guild Wars, COD5), at high or medium quality! (with the exception of Crysis, witch I havnt tried yet) -The screen is a perfect size and is slightly glossy and glare resistant. The resolution/aspect ration (16:9) is perfect for watching videos and playing games. -64bit -Plenty of RAM (and room for upgrade) -Some of the best laptop speakers I've heard -Nice full keyboard -Great wireless range and speed (b/g/draft-N) -Lots of good connections (USB, eSATA, HDMI, etc) -Long battery life -Big
- Cons: -You can see a little flex in the keyboard, but its barely noticeable and each key is very crisp and the keyboard is comfortable.
-50+ garbage/bloatware applications that take about 2 hours to remove. -5400 RPM HDD. I will probably upgrade to 7200 RPM in the future. -DVD/CD drive can get a little noisy if the computer is in certain positions. -Even with great cooling, the laptop can get pretty hot during extended use. Especially while gaming or if its not on a table. -I personally did not like the partitioning layout, so I used GParted to resize/recreate my partitions to this:
|| 80gb "WINDOWS | 35gb "LINUX" | 170gb "DATA" ||
- Other Thoughts: -Since I purchased this laptop before June 29th, I am eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade disc!
-I recommend Revo Uninstaller to uninstall all of the bloatware. Its a free program that can quickly uninstall programs and scan for leftover files on the HDD and in the registry. -Nice responsive touch-buttons -Awesome glossy "deep blue" finish on the case -Overall great modern design and looks very sweet -I've noticed that the computer will shutdown if it gets too hot, which is a nice safety precaution. Even if i'm in the middle of an intense Halo match >:(
I bought this laptop so I could have a portable computer that can do most of the things my ~$2000 desktop can do. This machine far surpasses my expectations.
