5 out of 5 eggsThe best laptop I've ever owned.

Pros: 4 GB of RAM, still a mainstay for many modern desktops and laptops. Display has not so much as dimmed over years of heavy use. Wireless signal reception is excellent. Video more than keeps pace with Aero and HD video. Can handle games of yesteryear such as Half Life 2 very well. Surprisingly durable.

Cons: Battery life compared to many modern units is unacceptable. On a full charge with a replacement battery I manage roughly two hours of use. Acer customer support was horribly unacceptable on the two occasions I dealt with them.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is five years old now. It is an understatement to say it is reliable. This system has been subjected to temperatures, drops, and use that would have fried many other laptops from higher reputed manufacturers. I could fault the wireless for only being 802.11g. I could fault the WD hard drive for only being 320GB, but today people are willing to accept 64GB so who knows. I've upgraded the HDD to a 500 GB for added capacity. The display has keyboard marks from being sandwiched into a laptop bag with an Asus Transformer TF101 (with the dock), but overall it has survived respectably. It has no bluetooth, but a USB adapter solved that. All I can say is that this laptop deserves credit where it's due. It has served me fantastically well. It just felt right to acknowledge when a company gets something right. Professional business laptops I configure on a daily basis feel flimsy and poorly made in comparison to this thing. If I could buy another Acer like this, I would, if it weren't for their support issues. My first battery completely died two days after the warranty. Before that, it had been working perfectly and still had a two hour run time. I would've bought Acer religiously had it not been for that. All disparities aside, this has been a truly remarkable laptop. I use it to stream videos to my HDTV via the DLNA protocol. Never skips a beat.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat lappy

Pros: Had this for 5 yrs now and it has been great. upgrade path available was amazing.(easy pll unlock, lots of gpus to choose from mxm ii)

Cons: Battery just stopped working and i opened it in cold weather and the screen cracked. not really a con

Other Thoughts: Now using a x7900 @ 3.0ghz a geforce 9600 ddr3 and a vertex2 ssd just need to replace the screen & battery. all said this is still a great lappy and doesn't feel any slower than my i7 i use for work

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good laptop, Great price

Pros: Above all: the price, especially considering what you get.

Pretty good dedicated graphics card, great speakers, good cpu, 4 gb ram. fingerprint scanner and media console are pretty useful.

Cons: vista, with no windows 7 upgrade; media console does malfunction occassionally

Other Thoughts: because of the media console, the keyboard is shifted towards the right. it just takes a bit of time to get used to.

a lot of blue lights everywhere, which is kind of a cool feature but also can be annoying sometimes [especially if you have the computer in your dorm room and you need to sleep]. however, it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

weight is a bit on the heavy side, but I've gotten used to my previous 17" 8-lb HP.

I know many are disappointed with the lack of windows 7 upgrade, but i really dont think that single factor should make the rating lower than a 3. i know vista is bad, but with the amount of money you save compared to what you're getting, you can afford to buy your own copy of windows 7.

all in all, a great improvement over my previous laptop, and even cheaper than my previous one too.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice multi-media system

Pros: - HDMI output
- Nice screen
- Great performance/dollar
- Looks great

Cons: - The keyboard is offset due to the CineDash controls
- LEDs are blindingly bright
- No Numpad

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for my sister in-law, put Windows 7 64-bit on it and it flies!

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Performance is pretty good as expected.

Cons: Screen is highly reflective. Too bad they don't have a matte version of the screen.

Other Thoughts: Controls to the left are cool; the only problem is that it takes some time to get use to shifting your hands more to the right. Not a big deal.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my review

Pros: Have already reviewed but keyboard is fine to me though I am constantly hiting the caps lock key

Cons: Just the Win 7 thing. But if microsoft continues to support vista it is running fine; maybe I will wait.

Other Thoughts: I hate doing a second review but do want to say - go to NVDIA and upgrade the video card. I was having poor performance on some mapping software and updating the driver worked wonders

The Belkin cooling pad that is curved seems to work very well. I ran processor at about 100% for 36 hours downloading map tiles and it never got warm!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop, get over it.

Pros: I am going to cover the complaints people have had:
Keyboard is offset and weird feel: The offset keyboard keeps your palm from hitting the touchpad when typing, very nice feature. Every laptop has a weird feel at first and you will get used to it. "Keyboard can not keep up with my typing" -- Yeah well then you obviously do not know how to properly type, because for me, nor ANYONE else of my friends we have any issues.

This laptop plays games perfectly, I have not had a single game yet that it can't run- even crysis at medium high settings, and -tear- its just so beautiful.

The case seems sturdy, and doesn't really feel like it would be easy to break, but be safe with it none the less [as in do not drop it]

Very fast, can open any and all applications under 2 seconds

The fan is NOT loud at all, and this thing is so well ventilated, it does not get hot. I have not had it get anywhere near to overheating.

Battery life is better than the compaq presario 2100 series [it on

Cons: No cons to list as of yet, so lets continue with the pros

It also can play bluray, and HD movies, no problem. The wide screen is very nice and bright enough to go outside in the middle of the day and use it [although it will kill the battery life to keep the brightness on high while on battery power]

The cord makes it to where almost no plug is out of reach. I have not had to move in any of my classes to get to a plug to charge it, and doubt I will have to. Very nice feature.

The fingerlaunch program is nice and lets me assign certain programs to certain fingers, which is a lot less button clicking, let me tell you.

Also it does not take but 30 minutes- 1 hour to set up the resoration discs, due to the laptop coming with an acer program that prompts you.

The multimedia controller is very pretty, and just looks amazing.

Only takes about 1 hour to remove bloatware, ALL NEWEGG COMPUTERS COME WITH MANUFACTURER BLOATWARE, GET OVER IT.

Other Thoughts: Someone had complained about not having the right amount of space- well there are 3 other partitions other than the vista ones. One is just 1mb for just buffer area, the other is a vista recovery/installation systsem, and I ASSUME the last is a windows installaiton system. So between that is about 100Gigs.. Not that big of a deal.

Computer is so fast it doesn't need the windows 7 upgrade >>

All you gotta deal with are the quirks of vista, which are not that bad on this laptop.

Bios does boot with usb drives plugged in, however if you have one plugged in, and set the computer to boot from usb drives.. well you see the issue.

Plays Fallout 3 just fine...

The laptop is so nice, I see no need of worrying about upgrading it.... And what is more: Full ram, a great processor and graphics card, what else you need? Memory? go get an external hardrive, more for less money.

You will get used to the touchpad, once you do it is very nice.
Got here in 2 days. Great laptop, I lov

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for the money

Pros: great specs gets 4.6 on vista but that is not it's real potential.Vista 64 runs great have tried some games and it has smoked them crisis warhead medium settings works fine. Audio control works fine have not stopped working as other people say even after hibernating. Fingerprint feature works fine as well but u need to get used to it took me 5 min to figure out. and 1 min to setup.Beautiful design.
It is a fast laptop boots really fast.

Also it's not as hot as people say it is my other laptops have worked hotter than this one .
Wifi has great range.
What else can i say it's a powerful laptop at a low price.
But do not buy if u want battery life get something else.

Cons: battery life is short. To be expected due to the graphics card and processor. some bloatware but can be removed in about 30min

Other Thoughts: They should have included the windows 7 free upgrade but can't ask more for the money.
