3 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire AS5536-5883

Pros: Good price for 15.6" and 3GB. Everything is integrated. Webcam, sound, etc.

Cons: Built-in mouse...very bad. Must use external.

Other Thoughts: Good for kids (10-12 years old) or as a 2nd laptop at home/office.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent for the money

Pros: Nice display and decent graphics performance. I like having a number keypad on a smaller (compared to 17"+) laptop.

Cons: Not a big fan of the keyboard or mouse, but they work fine.

Other Thoughts: Bought this as an "around the house" computer for my wife. Works fine for her web surfing, document writing and medium level gaming. I don't think it's enough laptop for a serious gamer but that's what desktops are for.

5 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire AS5536-5883

Pros: This laptop is my first. It arrived in several days. Performance is very good for surfing the net. Product quality and features is very good. Runs pretty fast. Everything was up and running in just a few minutes, including connecting to my wireless router. Visual quality is very good and sound is excellent. Web cam works good.

Cons: Came bundled with Vista and lots of crapwear . I don't like Vista. Would have preferred XP.

Other Thoughts: Product looks good too, however it is prone to fingerprints due to the glossy finish. I would recommend this laptop to anyone except I guess heavy gamers.

5 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire AS5536-5883

Pros: Awesome computer for the price. Typical over the top excellent service and delivery from NewEgg. This computer works just fine for most jobs at this price. You can't beat the free Windows 7 upgrade too! What a deal!

Cons: No firewire port.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate....wireless N drivers need updating

Pros: Paired this new N capable laptop with a new Netgear WNDR3700, FYI, the atheros AR5B91 acer driver worked intermittenly at 300MBs on 2.4Ghz band (the wireless card in this laptop doesn't seem to be dual band, although googling suggests some of the euro version of this laptop might be, the USA version doesn't, I'll have to look now with the new driver installed). The included driver seems to be the issue, trying to pull the latest vista 32 bit driver from atheros.cz directly was a major p.i.t.a., I went to the MSI site to pull it down as the acer site didn't have it available. Now my connection is constant, 300mbs from across the house (50' and through a wall(drywall)). If this was a dual band capable card, I'd be rolling at 300+300mbs....put as is, I'm very happy now with the updated drivers. Will be installing Win 7 64bit Ultimate (technet plus and coupon rocks for multiple liscenses!!) soon, expect to see even better performance soon :) Now I'll need more memory..ha!

Cons: Sound could be better, but that's nit-picking over a laptop that cost $400 on sale at the time

1 out of 5 eggsfailed

Pros: great features and price

Cons: has crashed on me several times and have had to reboot through the recovery disk which fortunately I made during initial setup. However the system crashed again and now the recovery is unable to recover my system. Can't find any one to talk to about the problem am waiting for email response from Acer. Don't buy this product from New Egg if you exspect help from them if the product fails as they will not support it at all. Guess I found out why the hard way why.

4 out of 5 eggsQuite pleased

Pros: Pricepoint - picked up during a daily deal for way off original retail price.
Full num pad & bright widescreen.
Zippy PC w/ good wireless.
Free Win7 upgrade ships in 3 weeks.

Cons: Mousepad gestures are more of an annoyance than convenience for me - turned them off.
Fingerprint magnet.
Volume controls are fairly deeply recessed, and require repeated pressing - kind of a pain.

Other Thoughts: Smooth keys & flat keyboard take some getting used to.
Ships w/o Bluetooth, but still has on/off button for it.
4 USB is more than enough - a Firewire port would have been nice.
Bloatware helps keep price down, so kind of hard to complain about it.

5 out of 5 eggsComputer fine, Newegg not so much.

Pros: Great price for what you get. Nice 2 core processor, 3g mem, 320g hd, hdmi, cam, home premium etc. No problems so far. Fast, seamless, nice. Other reviewers mention overheating and low battery time but I haven't experienced any of that. Just cool and fast operation.

Cons: The touchpad is huge and I'll accidentally touch it which causes the cursor to move to unwanted places. Of course a mouse / trackball would solve that. ... Newegg was a bit of a negative. It took 10 days to receive my notebook after first placing my order. They made 2 (maybe 3) screwups which caused delays but I made one initially and the delivery co. may bear some responsibility also.

Other Thoughts: After seeing some sucking up to newegg in these reviews I may have burned some bridges with them (lol) but I'll live with it. And I'll live with a nicely valued, quality notebook computer.
