Decent performance with design flaws.
- Pros: Good performance using vista, solid system architecture. Lots of RAM and a fast CPU & graphics adapter. I've had my FZ for 8 months and haven't had any hardware problems. SD/SDHC card slot in front.
- Cons: Poor battery life (1.5-2 hours at the "balanced" power setting). A bit longer in "power saving mode" but then the screen is barely visible. HOT HOT HOT...this thing is difficult to use on your lap even with the Xpad. To save battery Sometimes the system switches the ethernet adapter off and the only way to get it back is full a system reboot.
- Other Thoughts: Terrible touchpad design: Mouse buttons are hard to press and the paint rubs off after 2 weeks. Alps touchpad options are very limited (no touch sensitivity setting). Additionally the touchpad is located near the sharp front edge of notebook, so placing your palm on the side while using the touchpad is very uncomfortable.
Not Bad
- Pros: Fast load times and shutdown times. No problems with this copy of vista at all. Video card is decent, haven't done any gaming but there is no application lag. Lots of video out connections and all work flawlessly. Screen is exceptionally bright. Nice design and the keyboard is very easy to type on, the letters just flow out. Camera works good, nothing exceptional. Wireless is fast, no problems networking and sharing.
- Cons: Short battery life, 2 hours or so, so if you plan on being extremely mobile I definitely do not recommend. Runs little hot 50-60 C, I stressed it to 70 C where it seems to stabilize under max load which isn't ideal but I hear these processors can handle 100-120 C. Lots of bloatware (commercial pre-installed software,i.e. AOL things). Once you uninstall them it's all good.
- Other Thoughts: Overall satisfied, I am definitely not a big fan of vista, but this computer has no problems running it; but since I don't use this computer for gaming I can't say it's problem free. In general when you get vista make sure you have enough ram, this computer has plenty 3GB of which 33% is constantly used as shown by the usage meter.
