5 out of 5 eggsGreat computer, great features, great deal

Pros: I had a specific list of things I needed when I went laptop shopping. I specifically wanted one that had a 1080p display, a dedicated graphics chipset, and a fast processor. And I was looking for less than 800 bucks. I didn't think I'd get it all, and then this little number appeared on my power search. It sounded too good to be true.
Let me tell you, it isn't. This laptop is fantastic. At its price point it just cannot be beaten. It has an Intel i5 processor, which means it's not greased lightning, but it still goes like stink. It'll handle almost any older game on high settings. New games (and particularly intense games of yesteryear, like Skyrim) will still run very well at medium to high settings. The processor rarely gets bogged down under load, and the graphics card follows suit.
The display is lovely and quite bright. It is on the larger end of the spectrum, at 15 1/2 inches, but it's a very portable old girl. Even though it's wide, it's also quite thin, barely more than 3/4 of an inch when shut. It also weighs only about 5 pounds in total and lasts on battery for around 3 hours if you're just browsing or using Microsoft Office. (If you want to play games without a charger, you can forget it. One hour is the best I've managed.) And, I've gotta say, I really dig the minimalist case design. It's a sleek matte black with soft edges. The keyboard has a very attractive dim white backlight, so you can still type in the dark. It's actually a very pretty design.
All in all, this is a smokin' deal at this price point. The only decision to make is whether you'd prefer an i7 over an i5, but at this price range the only i7 models I can find are 1366x768 displays. To me, the 1080p is worth a drop in processor power.

Cons: I never say what I'm about to say, but here goes. I honestly cannot think of a single con on this laptop. The battery life is poor in performance mode, but compared to its competitors the Vaio is quite long-lived.

Other Thoughts: I have been quite surprised at the hardiness of the integrated graphics card. The intel chip can pull off some surprising feats. It runs Portal 2 on ultra-high settings at about 60 fps. I know, it's a three-year old game, but it means the integrated chip shouldn't be summarily rejected as a steaming pile of horse manure.
Also, be sure to get yourself a 16gb flash drive. The laptop does not come with recovery media for Windows 7 so you have to do it on your own. It does have recovery discs for 8.1, but if you use them without making a Windows 7 recovery device, you will not be able to go back to Windows 7.
