1 out of 5 eggsHorable technical support

Pros: Fast, runs a lot of higher end games.

Cons: came with 3 bad pixels
heat issues, warped keyboard, had to have keyboard replaced. Blower fan starts to wine after a while.

contacted Sony, jumped through hoops to get everything fixed. tech replaced pretty much everything in the shell except for the fan itself lol
after spending that kind of money, I called back with concerns about the fan being noisy.. they said to send it to them so i did. Later i received an e-mail stating it's going to cost so much to replace screen, broken keyboard and so on.. i asked them why it needed to be replaced when i only had 3 bad pixels, and also knowing the keyboard was just replaced from warping via over heating.. they said the screen was cracked. they sent me pictures and it appeared as if the whole body of the laptop was bent in half. they claimed the laptop was that way before i shipped it. I filed complaintes via the BBB and also sent snail mail to every department at sony. (continued on other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: After many threats and asking about if the box was damaged and Sony not being able to prove the box wasn't damaged, and after asking why my concerns were about 3 bad pixels and a noisy fan if the whole thing was destroyed.. they finally gave in and replaced the screen, and keyboard at their cost. I told them i only had the laptop for a week and that because they should have insured the shipping that they paid for to have me return the laptop, that they should replace the laptop with a new one but they wouldn't budge. I do have a working laptop, but how do i know that it won't have issues due to what happened to it later on. Sony has horrible support. I wouldn't recommend any sony product to anyone anymore. Their support's goal is not to make the customer happy but to avoid costs at all cost.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: This is a great laptop for those who are waiting for Intel and Nvidia to come out with newer technology worth the price tag. I'm waiting to upgrade my core 2 duo to a 6 core but Intel won't let go of their standard 6 core processors due to lack of competition. This laptop has a 7200 rpm hd instead of a 5400 rpm that causes bottlenecks. Sony's support website put together very well, easy to navigate and they have a great notification area of problems that can be resolved by flashing (see other thoughts)

The 1 gig of fast separate video memory and standalone video card really boost the graphic performance.

Cons: after flashing for known heat issues, the fan seems to give out a high pitch tone when changing speeds as if the barrings are warn. Something I can live with.
Slightly heavier and the battery gives you around 2 hours (realistic time) but what do you expect for such a powerhouse.. I expected this before the purchase.

Other Thoughts: can run multiple instances of eve-online without noticeable graphic lag. Runs starwars galaxies online at anti-aliasing 8 without any lag what so ever.
I believe the graphics performance beats my nvidia 8800gtx video card by a little. I find that amazing since the nvidia 8800gtx has beat every one of their new cards except their 400 series.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Extremely fast, quiet, and powerful. The only time I really see the CPU approach 100% CPU usage is when I'm encoding videos or playing some ridiculous game with obnoxious graphical settings. It's so much fun seeing 8 processors in the system usage graphs!

I love the backlit keyboard and the display. The resolution is such an improvement over my last machine.
Weight is acceptable for a laptop as big and powerful as this. The system seems perfectly stable even under heavy load. I regularly work with this laptop sitting on my legs, and it runs much cooler than my previous laptop did. The video card is pretty powerful for a laptop.

The machine was very attractively priced when I purchased it, especially for all of the power under the hood.

Cons: Others have mentioned these items, and I'll echo their opinions that some might not be "cons" per se, but they're things you might want to keep in mind.

- The enclosure is rather flimsy. I was expecting something that at least felt a bit more sturdy. I'm seriously afraid to damage something inside when I hold it with one hand.
- The power brick is huge.
- Battery life is horrible. Completely understandable with all of the power, but if you travel a lot, this might not be the best option. My perspective, however, is that if I am not near an outlet, I probably shouldn't be on a computer anyway.
- The speakers are less than impressive. Thank goodness for headphones.
- No intall/recovery discs. Might consider creating an image of your hard drive for when Windows crashes.
- The video card is much more powerful than my previous card, but it struggles with some games. It should be perfectly sufficient for anyone who doesn't play the most modern games with the highest settings.

Other Thoughts: It took quite a while to receive this item, which is new for me. I ordered it on a Thursday, and it didn't arrive until late the next Wednesday. And it shipped from a place that's about 6 hours from where I live. I really, really wanted to just drive up to the place and pick it up myself!!

I installed Linux on my laptop as soon as I got it. There were a few hiccups along the way, but now it's working perfectly well for me. I guess the mic doesn't work in Linux, but that's not a concern for me--I never use it. Memory usage is about 500MB on boot, and generally stays below 2GB usage. I haven't tried using a lot of the hardware--HDMI, eSata, MMC, SD... I just assume they're working fine.

My last computer was about 5 years old, and I'm very, very satisfied with this upgrade. I'd buy this machine several of these if I had the money.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Well made F series, super fast, not shiny (except for screen), Sony driver support is excellent.

Great job from Newegg!

Cons: Worst viewing angles of any screen I have ever seen - not possible to see "black" over the entire screen at once from ANY viewing location. (Why won't Sony give us the high quality matte screens like they use in European models?)

Speakers are not very good. It took a couple of weeks to get all the Sony crapware turned off. Keyboard is always warm; fan blows hot air to left (I'm left handed, so...)

Limited support for external monitors. According to specs, can't support greater that 1920x1080 on HDMI. (What if you have a 1920x1200 monitor, Sony?)

Also, how come almost every desktop vid card now supports 30" LCD resolution, and no Win laptop does? No wonder everybody wants a Macbook!

Other Thoughts: 1080p on 16.4 takes some getting used to. Not all software has sufficient flexibility to work optimally at this high dpi.

Overall, I am happy with it. The screen is disappointing. I am spoiled though - coming from a Samsung 305t with 178 degree viewing angles and 103% color gamut.

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely Slow

Pros: Makes your wallet $1150 lighter.

Cons: Extremely slow in my case. My $400 Acer is much, much faster. If I place a desktop gadget on the screen it takes a whole minute to appear. If I want to move a gadget to a different portion of the screen, it lags significantly or sometimes does not move at all. This is the slowest computer I have ever used, not sure why.

4 out of 5 eggsHighly Compatible with W7

Pros: I agree with other reviewers and want to add a couple comments. My VPCF11NFX is glitch free on Windows 7. Usually there's some driver, some BIOS problem, some wakeup issue. I've experienced none. This is the first notebook that is glitch free. Of course, I wasn't an early adopter on this notebook. Also, I expected the CPU to breath fire but it runs cooler than Intel Pxxxx systems. Yes, there's some fan noise but no worse than my Sony S11 (Core i5).

Cons: First model had a sprung F5 key. Squeeked loudly when pressed and often stayed depressed. Replacement is fine. Display is good but not as good of my Dell Studio XPS 1620 1080P WLED. Only a one year domestic warrany.

Other Thoughts: I have rarely bought Sony products because I didn't like their proprietary lockins and uninteresting value proposition. Now I own two Sony notebooks (F1 and Sony S11) and one digital camera. The value, quality and compatibility are impressive. I am a bit unimpressed that NewEgg couldn't ship the notebooks next day when they had all day to do it. Do I really have to pay the expedited order fee to same day shipping on a next day package? I don't recall any other vendor being unable to ship a next day package when given most of a day.

5 out of 5 eggsSound quality is not bad. It was because the default setting is wrong.

Pros: Nice hardware design, extremely crisp and clear display.
Too heavy for carrying around. However, it's best for me since I used it as a replacement for my desktop which is broken last year.

Cons: Sound quality is too bad. However, it was because the speaker's default setting was wrong. Go to Control Panel - Hardware and Sound -Sound - Select your speaker device (Speaker/HP) and click Properties - Go to Enhancement tab - Check "Disable all sound effects - Click OK.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast CPU and GPU combo
Backlit keyboard is great
Beautiful 1080p screen
7200rpm HDD
1333 DDR3 memory
Runs cooler than I expected
Bang for your buck, I looked around for 1-2 months and it came down to the VAIO and the ASUS G-Series but the reports of BSOD on the ASUS pushed me towards this one.

Cons: Plastic body, but at least it looks nice. The comparative ASUS G-Series laptop is very ugly. An aluminum body on this laptop is just wishful thinking.
No dedicated volume buttons, but there is a FN + F3 or F4 for volume control so it's only one extra button to push.

Other Thoughts: I bought mine from SonyStyle.com because I wanted the black one and it was only $30 more and comes with the 740qm processor, shipping took 10 days. The one I bought was the VPCF1290X model but basically the same exact thing.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop, poor support

Pros: very fast, cool backlit keyboard, super screen resolution

Cons: insanely bad tech support. Took 9 (!) e-mails plus an on-line chat just to get the specs and max size supported for memory upgrades (DDR3-1333MHz & 8GB). Poor touchpad driver, does not auto-disable when you plug in a mouse and is too sensitive to palm touches.

Other Thoughts: Battery life is not great, but I expected that considering the power & screen size. Keyboard is slightly squeaky.
