1 out of 5 eggsTerrible experience

Pros: keyboard feels good, screen is crisp

Cons: this is an extrememly delicate laptop. its not meant to take the normal bumps and bruises of being moved around. I bumped it and the screen went out. It was before the year expired so I had to go to Sony for service. They wanted $384 to repair it so I repaired it elsewhere for $156. 1 year and 1 week after i bought it, it died. Because I had repaired it outside of Sony, the extended warrantee was voided. It has no repair. This laptop is beautiful to look at but completely unreliable. Sony has gone from the best quality to the worst. I had read that their service was bad but I thought their products werestill topnotch. Wrong.

Other Thoughts: this is the first and only review I have ever written about a product. Its so bad that I actually took the time to warn other peoplenot to waste their money.

1 out of 5 eggsHate this Sony

Pros: Light Weight, decent customer service.

Cons: It has been a headache for me ever since I bought it. I have sent this back to Sony Repair Center twice and it is still not functioning well.

First of all, if you don' mind a small humming airplane in front of you, this might work you. The laptop is so loud that the customer service from Sony can even hear it on the phone (I was using a headset, not speakerphone when I called). My wife who is sitting about 10 feet away from me has to complain about the noise. Sony came to me and changed the fan, but the new fan is as noisy as the old one. When I sent the computer to the repair center twice, I specifically ask them to fix the fan problem. And both times, the computer came back with the same noise problem. At this point, I have to resign to the idea that this laptop is a noisy laptop. There is nothing Sony can do about it. What's worse about the noise is that it never stops, even when it is on idle. Unless I put it into the sleep mode, the hum continues, even when the computer has been idle for a long time.

The second problem is the blue screen. It happened countless times in a period of 4 months, before I sent the computer to the repair center. Sony reimaged my harddrive and told me that the problem is fixed. However, during the one week after I receive the computer back from Sony, the blue screen appeared 5 times. I had to send the laptop back to Sony repair center and wrote a letter, specifically ask them to check if there was anything wrong with the hardware. This second time, they replaced the motherboard.

The third problem is that the computer does not smoothly. I received the computer a couple of days ago. To my surprise, as soon as turned on the computer, the computer told me that the Windows on the computer is NOT genuine. I had to call Sony again. The help desk helped me to removed the problem. However, even though the Windows is genuine afterwards, many programs could not run properly. I had to believe that there were still something wrong with Windows. So I used the recovery function to recover the computer to the factory condition. This time, the Windows seems fine and my programs are running. However, I still experiene hiccups. The blue circle appears too often on the mouse pointer. I know it is TOO OFTEN because when I used my old Dell computer while this Sony was at the repair center, my old Dell runs a lot smoother. I added 4GB of memory, making the total memory 8GB and i do not expect the computer to run slow. I am experiencing these hiccups when I am only using the web browser, word, exel and outlook. No large graphic or video programs are involved at all.

This computer is totally not something I had expected from Sony.

Other Thoughts: I did some research on the web about the noise situation and found out that a lot of Sony users are experiencing noise issues with the fan. So apparently Sony is using a bad fan supplier or the CPU of the computer is not functioning correctly.

I don't think I will ever think of buying a Sony laptop at all in the future. Even thought the customer service is very polite, it is still useless if they can not fix my problems.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: Solid specs for the price. Does everything I need it to without a hiccup. Backlit keys are GLORIOUS!

Cons: Under load the fan can get quite noisy, and the exhaust fan can expel some room-heating air. Mouse pad can get in the way when typing, but is easily disabled with the hot key.

Other Thoughts: Bought the additional battery pack, dropped in 8GB, an SSD, and a replaced the DVD drive with the stock HDD. Web surfing/Citrix use I get around 8-10 hours of AC-free run time. Gaming would net me around 2-4 (haven't tested for more than an hour). Would pat my past self on the back for making a wise investment.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality laptop for the price

Pros: Its pretty light compared to most other laptops I've seen.
Everything as a whole looks really nice. The backlit keyboard looks awesome and is pretty useful in dark conditions. I bought this laptop for college so it seems like its the perfect size/weight to actually carry it around back and forth. The stamina/speed button is nice in case you wanna play a game or just check email/write papers. I've played the new CS: global offensive game on here and it ran pretty well on medium settings.

One of the first things I noticed was that the power cord doesnt quite fit so tight into the port. But I think they did that on purpose so in case the accidently gets yanked on, it doesnt damage the port inside the laptop, so I guess thats a good thing.

Its pretty quiet unless you're playing a really intense game.

Cons: This might sound stupid, but the rubber feet underneath dont really seem to grip onto a normal surface that well. So it might slide around a little bit when I use it, but I think those can be replaced for cheap.

The screen is slightly flimsy, but then again, its pretty thin, so thats a given.

Allot of bloatware, but thats easy to get rid of.

When you press the sound/bightness buttons, it makes an annoying beeping sound, but I found a way of making it stop.

Other Thoughts: The first one I ordered was DOA. The hard drive couldn't be found, so it may have been defective from the factory, or it might have possibly be damaged in shipping- I don't know. Newegg RMA'd it and I got a new one two weeks later. It was very annoying, but I think it was worth the wait.

Overall, I think its a really nice laptop. For me, I'm mostly going to be writing papers/doing other work for college, so it works for what I need. If you're looking for a laptop for school, I would defiantly recommend this one. The things I dont like about it are very minor. The big things are there, but the thing I like most about is probably the backlit keyboard.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Laptop

Pros: Good price (got it discounted), good specs in small package, lightweight, bright screen, USB 3.0, backlit keyboard, excellent browsing even with 20+ tabs, webcam works well and filters out background noise (to some extent), sleek design

Cons: Biggest issue is that battery heats up with high CPU use, uncomfortable on lap after 20 minutes, Fingerprint reader location between touchpad buttons triggers that software accidentally often, max resolution of 1600x900

Other Thoughts: -I was looking for a lightweight laptop that could do low-mid end gaming, this one had the capability and some other nice features for a good price.
-Plays Heroes of Might and Magic V, haven't tried any other games thus far but based on specs others should be possible, maybe not max definition but still playable.
-1600x900 isn't bad but other laptops with similar size screens go up to 1080.
-There are two settings, one for stamina and one for speed, I can't comment on the stamina setting. Haven't tried to uninstall the fingerprint software to see if that disables the fingerprint reader triggering the software, but might be possible.
-Some bloatware but much less than other systems and easily uninstallable.
-Screen is a bit flimsy but some care goes a long way to preserving it.
-I personally have a cooling base when not mobile and that's enough to keep the battery cool.

I am happy with my purchase and the Vaio brand.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Great labtop powerful with hybrid graphics, battery life is pretty good with the stamina switch on, it looks great i love the light up keyboard, great ports such as usb`s hdmi vga even on the bottom there are ports idk what there for i think the battery sheets they offer

Cons: Okay everyone here talking about the fans yes they are loud its AMD they get hot this isn`t new and the fact that its so slim its in such a confined space BUT there is an option to adjust the fan by going through the thermal managment options there`s balanced performance and silent run it on silent you wont hear it thats it,the viewing angles on the screen are a bit off i raised the contrast that helped, the screen is a little flimsy but then again its thin, the fan exhaust is in a stupid place it is blocked if the screen is opened up to much and makes the fan work a bit harder idk what they were thinking with that exhaust design

Other Thoughts: Great i love it the 13 screen took some getting use to buts its much better when you do get use to it than those huge 15 screens and i can run bf3, crysis 2 with a lot of the settings off, fallout newvegas, supreme commander, i fly through my facebook feed, multiple tabs are easy im upgrading to 8gb which it supports all in all :)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

Pros: Very light for what its packing. Backlit keyboard is a fantastic feature. Faster than what i thought it would be considering it has a 5400 rpm hard drive

Cons: While the keyboard is backlit, it is kind of hard to get used to.. the keys are barely raised from the main frame of the laptop. this can be very aggravating if you are used to the standard pc keyboard. The mouse buttons on the touch pad are quite difficult to press, I don't really have too much of an issue with this considering i use a dedicated mouse.

Other Thoughts: The bloatware is pretty good, ive dealt with some HP machines and boy are they bad... if you compare this to a new hp machine you can really tell the difference in bloatware. Some reviews have complained about the fan noise. It does get alittle noisy but if you have a desktop with 2 fans running at full speed this thing sounds like a saint. Overall very pleased with this item and would recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller laptop that packs a nice punch.

1 out of 5 eggsAwesome on paper but after four months of ownership, pass

Pros: Awesome specs on paper, sheet battery, display resolution specs, looks, weight, form factor, backlit keyboard.

Cons: Fan noise, bloatware, bios, battery consumption, display quality at off angles, flimsy monitor build quality, annoying touch pad.

Other Thoughts: After four months of ownership, I'll pass on this item and the sony vaio brand in the future. In addition to the quirks of this laptop that are well documented, the laptop display is very flimsy. Grab it by a corner and open it/close it as a trial. The monitor and lid are too thin to provide any structural strength to normal use. Somehow, thru normal use, my monitor managed to get three spots on it where the LCD doesn't display colors correctly. This was caused by something (don't know what) pressing on the back of the lid under what should be considered normal pressure/use. Basically the monitor is too flimsy and breaks (or deforms) way too easily.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little package

Pros: Hard to find these specs on a medium budget
3.6lbs - light!
i5 with capable graphics card
1600x900 13.3" screen
metal body construction
backlit keyboard
5400RPM driver speedier than I expected

Cons: Current BIOS upgrade only supports SATA II; an earlier version does SATA III at the expense of Bluetooth. Those looking to replace the HDD with a SDD who need to update the firmware may need AHCI support (only RAID controller enabled in current BIOS).

Sony bloatware. Drivers/device support can be a source of grief if not installed in a particular order.

Screen gets a lot of flack for the colors and contrast which can be addressed with calibration. IMO the viewing angles need some help, especially the vertical.

Other Thoughts: Coming from a Thinkpad with a similar DPI screen, all the 1366x768's on the market seem like a step backwards. Definitely get your wireless drivers from Intel's site, especially if you are fresh installing. Getting around 5.5 hours off one charge while just surfing. I have read that Sony is not participating in AMD's mobile driver program so we must depend on Sony for the GPU's updates. I found this out after I made my purchase with the intent on casual gaming (SC2 runs like a dream!).
