1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: - Amazing IPS screen
- OK plastic
- Good mouse and keyboard
- good specs

Cons: - Fan blows 24-7 and Sony can't fix it. Very loud and never ending
- Bad Dedicated graphics; old (like counter strike source) games only give 40fps, which is a joke. You can't mod it, since Sony has locked the speed settings...
- Terrible engineering: I tried to add more thermo paste to the CPU and discovered tiny heatsink that is shared between CPU and GPU... Thermo paste did not solve the constant noise.
- Fan blows even when CPU is just +40C and Sony laptop is set to Stamina / Silent mode.

Other Thoughts: Well, stay away. The 24-7 fan noise will drive you mad. Sony has no fix for this problem and this is a known problem.
You can't play games on it; so dedicated graphics is a waste of money.

This laptop is a good example when good specs and ideas are actually go to waste due to bad engineering and assembly.

No more Sony for me for couple of years...this is sad since I used to buy Sony only.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Computer

Pros: -Beautiful IPS display with a high color gamut.
-Decent graphics card (Runs original Crysis on medium settings, 720p, 30-40 FPS)
-Processing powerhouse
-Extremely light and thin
-Magnesium chassis feels great to the touch
-High quality build. The pictures don't do it justice.
-Small power supply.
-Similar Specs to the Macbook Pro, at a more reasonable price.
-Backlit keyboard with a built in numberpad!

Cons: Here's where things aren't so peachy. This is a fantastic computer. In my opinion, it's the only PC that can meet or exceed the design of the Macbook Pro.

...If only it were functional out of the box. I've spent the past six hours trying to install a fresh copy of Windows 8. The serial number is integrated in the motherboard...so you have to make sure you have the exact copy of Windows. The problem was figuring out the new UEFI BIOS, and how to properly format a bootable USB drive to accommodate it. I called technical support and they informed me that clean installs were "not supported" by Sony and that their engineering team had decided that the bloatware that had came with it was how the computer was designed to operate. I laughed and hung up the phone.

So, I can give this a solid 4/5 rating after installing a fresh copy of Windows. But considering that most users would not be able to install it...it is a 2/5 as shipped. It's just not functional fresh out of the box, and even after debloating it doesn't run like a fresh copy of Windows.

My next complaint is that the trackpad is atrocious. It doesn't register your finger traps half of the time. And I mean half. of. the. time. So be prepared to have a mouse connected to this computer. They tried to emulate the excellent MBP trackpad and failed miserably.

Here's what I've done to make this computer run great:

-Delete recovery partitions (who wants to re-install bloat?)
-Download a copy of Windows 8 Pro
-Create an EFI-enabled bootable USB key.
-Download drivers
-Installed
-Functional computer.

Other Thoughts: I would make the purchase again, because it is a very well built PC, which an excellent featureset, but the bloat just makes it unusable. Do a fresh install or purchase Sony's "fresh start" option.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst Look

Pros: What Sony has done right:
--Standard 7200RPM 750GB Hard Drive
--Semi-glossy (no glare, slight reflection)
--Intel Advanced 6325 N
--Lightweight
--Decent gamer with 640 LE
--Windows 8 Pro
-- 8GB RAM, not 6 as Newegg has listed
--Gorgeous IPS screen
--Battery life is excellent (5 hours!)
--Power Brick is nice and long
--Matte laptop back

Cons: What Sony has not done right:
--Very limited red. Plagued with the awful orangegate.
--640 LE is locked down in this version, no overclocking (yet)
--Slot loading is loud (I would prefer the tray)
--Fingerprint magnet finish
--Three USB's (vs the standard four)
--All the ports (besides headphone and mic jack) on the right-hand side
--Terrible location of input and output vents (which probably explains why this laptop gets REALLY hot)
--Pricey

Other Thoughts: I was about to send this back and get the ASUS 56VM, and take the gamble that someone had some in stock.

As a laptop, this is very lightweight with decent gaming potential. Carrying it around is not cumbersome at all and looks good when I am using it. Despite the flaws, this is quite nice and the keyboard is great to type on.

If I was able to go back, maybe I would of chosen something else but I have already taken it out of the box and have installed everything. So I will keep it, but be VERY sure that you want this laptop.

A quality laptop, but like many other laptops, it does have it shortcomings. For most, these are deal breakers. Have a good search!
