5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works just as well as my laptop. I do not think it is a laptop replacement, but it comes very close. All of the web pages that I have tried look great. Watching videos is a pleasure. YouTube works flawlessly. I watched live broadcasts of MLB.TV and I was pleasantly surprised. It works just like a desktop. All my computer programs that I have accumulated over the years work just fine.

Cons: It is a little pricey. It is very portable but if you are used to using a 15" to 20" computer monitor, this 7" screen will take some getting used to. There is more scrolling involved. The mouse/joystick is very difficult to use, as is the split keyboard. I have been getting better using the split keyboard. I have bought a Kensington wireless keyboard and mouse. But I still find that I use the split keyboard or the dial/thumb keys instead of the wireless keyboard. The input panel works but I tend not to use it much. While sitting in a chair and leaning forward holding the Q1 in my hands feels fine, but holding the Q1 while lounging (leaning back) on the sofa is a little awkward and a tad on the heavy side. So I usually use the kick stand on the back and keep the Q1 on a table.

Other Thoughts: It works just as advertised. I mainly use it for videos and a few web pages, but I can certainly see other possibilities. Every few weeks I think of another use for the Q1 ultra. It is not perfect but I can live with some of its flaws. I am very happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat machine!

Pros: This is a great machine! As others have said, it's not too fast, but it's extremely capable, especially considering its size and weight. It's small and light and easy to carry,so even though I'm disabled, I can take it with me many places where a regular laptop would be too much. The screen is bright and crisp, and it's got ports for everything I need, and good battery life (over 4 hours when new!)

Cons: The built-in mouse/joystick is next to useless, and the tablet/touch screen features aren't very useful either. The thumb keyboard is pretty tiny. It doesn't play DVD's in an external (3rd party) DVD drive very well, and the WiFi has rather short range, although it's always worked fine where I have a strong signal.

Other Thoughts: I use a Bluetooth mouse and various (full-size and folding) Bluetooth keyboards, so the nearly useless built-in mouse/joystick doesn't annoy me too much. The built-in tiny keyboard is useful for quick small entries if I don't have a Bluetooth keyboard handy.

Overall I love this machine. I've ditched my big, heavy laptop in its favor, and take it with me lots of places.

2 out of 5 eggsWifi problems plague Q1 Ultra

Pros: + Small size and light weight
+ Built-in Ethernet port
+ 2 USB ports
+ VGA port
+ Many accessories available for additional cost

Cons: - Atheros Wifi problems
- Useless thumb board
- Poor built-in mouse/joystick
- 1 GB RAM not enough for Vista

Other Thoughts: If you use 802.11 a lot avoid the Q1 Ultra. The Wifi problem also occurs in units that have Windows XP installed, so Vista itself isn't to blame.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Ultra Portable

Pros: This unit is incredibly portable. The screen resolution and quality are unbeatable for a unit this size. Hard drive and RAM capacity are excellent for this type of unit. Best feature compared to the competition - doesn't require you to carry dongle's everywhere - has RJ45, 2 USB 2.0, SD, and VGA all on board. Touchscreen is very usable, keyboard is usable for short messages, etc. While not a fast device, it is very capable - can run Photoshop in a usable fashion, and works great with dual monitor usage (built in and external flat panel). Plays Divx movies smoothly.

Cons: Onboard mouse is worthless. Also - as with most UMPC's at this point, the hard drive speed and processor speed leave a bit to be desired. As solid state drives drop in price and increase in size, and processor speeds improve, newer models should be even better.

Other Thoughts: Essential side items - Samsung sells a matching external keyboard with built in mouse - buy it. Also - a Logitech Nano USB laser mouse is a great add on and the batteries last nearly forever. This is a GREAT portable for students.

Final note - this one has XP - much better performance than the Vista versions

5 out of 5 eggsbest PDA replacement ever

Pros: I needed to replace my treo 90 and wanted something with internet access. I saw this, ordered it with xp (vista is really slow)loaded office pro and loved it ever since.

Cons: mouse is hard to use.Long boot up is a pain but expected with a slower processor.

Other Thoughts: love office onenotes on it. Touch screen is great. Recommend getting the antiglare screen protector for it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood mobile PC

Pros: Decent performance for such a small size and a great set of features. I spend most of my day at a desk working with a desktop computer but the Q1U allows me to have a break from desk life to enjoy my gaming and surfing from wherever I want!

Cons: The issues that stopped this device being excellent are:

1) The mouse/thumb pad is difficult to use as a mouse. It is barely usable and should be more sensitive to gentle or hard pressing to control pointer speed.

2) The screen has too much glare. I use the device outside and the surroundings appear on the screen more so than the computer image.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice...

Pros: Runs very well with XP. I was pleasantly surprised at the decent boot speed and overall performance. Screen is the best in its class. Full blown ibm-compatible machine, so you can run Linux, boot from USB flash drives and external hard drives. BIOS has decent feature set, such as boot order, etc. Friends are instantly jealous as soon as they see it and wrongly assume it cost twice what I paid for it. Thanks, Newegg and Samsung for that.

Cons: Could use another row of buttons with arrow keys, windows key, brightness, etc. Wifi switch would be nice too. Begin rant: Samsung should fix their ridiculously long initial startup procedure. You must endure over 30 minutes of choosing mundane settings and then letting it do a snapshot backup before you can even use the device. Then insult to injury is Windows is not even updated with IE7 or other updates. It is trivial to add updates like this to a pre-load, Samsung is just lazy. Worse case, would it kill them to tape a $5 USB stick on the box with an auto-update script to update the OS? Given that there is NO Antivirus Software running either (you must manually install it by running the install icon on the desktop) this is just crazy. You had better initially start this up in a secure environment before heading into the real world or you're asking for it.

Other Thoughts: I had thought this came with a spare battery by looking at other reviews, but Newegg has it right, just the one. Also, their photos are not 100% accurate. The stock Samsung photo is correct, but Newegg has added additional photos of the wrong model. For example, this has the finger print reader, but their photos show it covered with a Q1U logo instead.
