5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Insanely fast for a laptop with its i7. Runs all of my games at max or near max setting very happily ( league of legends, starcraft , minecraft )

Cons: Screen had 1 dead pixel on arrival, nothing can really be done about that though.. very hit or miss thing with laptops

Other Thoughts: Would reccommend one of these to any gamer looking for somthing they can bring to school as well. Even at 17" it's not locked to my desktop -- still very mobile and fits in my backpack

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine...Good price

Pros: I'm an IT person by trade...working with desktops, servers and everything in between.

I bought this laptop for my wife for Christmas and it's been a great machine! She plays mmorpg games and the large capacity hard drive and on-board video with dedicated memory keeps things flowing. The monitor is larger than most and the keyboard is nearly full-size.

Think it's time to buy one of those for me!

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Only wish it came with Win7 Pro as an option instead of Win7 Home...maybe I'll take care of that later. :)

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to optimus (review under this one)

Pros: They finally fixed the Optimus drivers and now every single game that I play DOES work now.
This is a continuation of the review below this one where I removed an egg due to Optimus being a horrible video card feature.

WoW, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, Diablo 3 and Realm of the Titans now all work fine. Be sure to update the video card driver at www.nvidia.com before using.

Cons: Very slow hard drive for a gaming laptop. Replaced with a 128GB SSD and works flawlessly. Still a very good price for what you get.

4 out of 5 eggsI hate optimus

Pros: For the money, you will be hard pressed to find a better deal. The specs are great for the money and the laptop isn't super flimsy like a lot of the ones on the market. Huge screen, fast CPU, mid-fast GPU (cons about that below though). Mac-like keyboard

Cons: Biggest issue: GT540 comes with Optimus (which tries to switch between an on-board GPU and your 540m GPU), but with a lot of games, this fails completely and the game will not run.

When you alt+tab out of League of Legends, it will crash.
Diablo 3 will not work until they find a fix for it.
A myriad of other games fall prey to the same issue. Nvidia seems to be ignoring the problem and all of their updates never fix this.

World of Warcraft does work and works well.

The keyboard has no backlighting
The harddrive is immensely slow. You need an SSD, so prepare to drop $200 once you buy this thing.

Other Thoughts: Comes with everything you'll need. Make sure your games will work with Optimus or the GT540m graphics card

5 out of 5 eggsSuch a great machine!

Pros: - Solid feel.
- 4 cores/8 threads makes you feel like a king.
- Instant on from sleep mode(that also doesn't waste power!) will make you cream your pants.
- Keyboard makes you feel like a mac user, in a good way.
- Games perform and look amazing.
- It plays minecraft.

Cons: - Keyboard shifted the arrow keys over right one compared to my previous laptop; I always seem to delete lines of code instead of words because of this...
- The resolution is tolerable for me, but some people might not like it this small. See my other thoughts.
- Only 1 USB port on the right side (there's 3 more on the other sides). It took some rearranging for me, since my previous laptop had all 4 on the right side.

Other Thoughts: - To work with such a wide, small resolution that this laptop comes with, move the taskbar onto the right side and try pinning your favorite apps onto the start menu. It's easy as holding down your mouse over the start button and then releasing over the app you want to open.
- This laptop can get fairly hot while playing games. I rated around 80 Celsius on the worst occasions. Thankfully it drops quite quickly after switching the graphics back to power-saving mode automatically after playing games. I'm not sure if this is dangerous for the laptop or not (some laptops may be designed to take it like a man).
- A laptop cooler may not be as effective as you may think. The fans are located on the sides, not the bottom. But by the looks of how my laptop is handling, you may not need a cooler.

2 out of 5 eggsCame broken

Pros: Looks awesome.
Great speed for most things.
Powered up without any problems at first.

Cons: Came with a clearly broken cooling fan (heated up VERY fast and didn't cooldown until I tabbed out of games)

For example with WoW I would tab in, get maybe 60 FPS with no problems but then after about a minute it would go steadily down and hover at 25 on the LOWEST settings. I couldn't feel any air coming from the back either. Just a faulty machine.

Other Thoughts: Buy this if you're a risktaker I guess. I bought it due to numerous great reviews both here and on other websites, but clearly I rolled the dice and lost..

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy

Pros: Good workhorse computer.
Used for gaming and Lightroom 3.
2 Hard drive bays.
Very light weight.
Single 4 GB of RAM stick.
Good color and brightness on the display.
Nvidia video chipset. :)

Cons: Wireless has to be disabled every boot even if you have a wired network connection. Easy to do but would be good if there was a way to disable it until you wanted it on.
Slow (5400) but large (750 GB) hard drive.
OK sound.
1600X900 max display?

Other Thoughts: OK I just read another persons review and read that this laptop had a 4 GB stick in it and one open slot. Sorry I did not believe it so I had to power down and check it for myself. Well it is true. I had been planing on upgrading the RAM but currently it just has not been a bottleneck in the system. Also I would recommend upgrading the main drive in the computer but I have kept the original one for spare room which is good for digital photo storage. The laptop runs cool but I do have a cooling fan under it (Rosewell RNA-7700). All in all this would be a system I would buy again. I have had it since 4-8 and no problems.

One last thing. You do have to make your own DVD's for restore as is the case with 99% of laptops sold. The one thing that stands out is Samsung has you make 2. One is just OS the other is a disc that you can select what other software you want install back. So if you do not want all of the AV and other stuff you make the disks reinstall and just select what you want.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: i7 Quad Core processor is well.....quad core.
Recent games can play on High and Ultra Settings no problem with the 540m graphics card.
Island style keyboard feels great under the fingers.
Volume Butttons! (I do NOT like using FN to change the volume on other PCs)
Price!
Stylish on the inside.

Cons: Hard to find any so far. I suppose I would have liked the lid to not shut so hard. And uhhhhh....I guess the outside doesn't look as stylish as the inside. Nothing to really care about.

Other Thoughts: Don't listen to others that tell you that this won't play games well. Obviously this is no desktop, but you can't ask for much more in a $1000 laptop. Outstanding quality for it's price point. Also I've noticed a mistake in the listings on some sites (even Samsung) where they listed the wrong processor. This is in fact an i7 NOT an i5. I have since brought this to Samsung's attention and they have fixed the error on their site, other sites may still list it wrong, on Newegg it's correct though. If you are looking or an affordable laptop capable of playing recent games on decent settings, buy this!

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent!

Pros: overall a great computer, works as advertised. this computer has two hard drive bays. i never saw anything about it in the product description on here or the samsung website, but its there nonetheless. both are 2.5" HDD bays. it comes with a single stick of 4gb of ram. everything seems to be working great.

Cons: they put my freaking stickers on all crooked.....after all the detail they put into this laptop you figure they would put a freaking sticker on straight.

as for the REAL cons: the hard drive......a 5400 rpm HDD??? really? everything else is pristine.

Other Thoughts: do yourself a HUGE favor and buy a nice SSD a fast machine like this doesn't deserve a choke point like a 5400 rpm HDD. i literally load windows in like 4 seconds with my samsung 470 series ssd. just use the recovery disk that it comes with to do a fresh install of windows on it. all the drivers are conveniently located on the samsung website. then you can use the hdd it comes with in the second HDD bay for storage.

this thing also comes with a single stick 4g of ram. so there is an empty slot just sitting there. you can get another 4g stick for like 40 bucks. worth it in my opinion.
