The Samsung Series 9 line of ultrabooks consistently offers excellent performance with each model. The 2012 iterations have greater portability and power than previous versions.

These Samsung ultrabooks weigh 2.6 pounds and are only half an inch thick, so they'll fit easily into any bag or carrying case. The batteries last almost an entire day on a full charge, so there's no need to carry an AC adapter and find an outlet during short trips where a laptop is necessary.

Samsung built the Series 9 with an aluminum foundation, and the solid design protects their internal hardware from any accidental damage. The ultrabooks use solid state drives for fast performance, so your files and programs will load quicker than ever.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this laptop but

Pros: Love this laptop for its design and portability but

Cons: I got 4 problems:
1) when i got the np900x3C the keyboard failed in one key so I got replaced with the new one in the shop.
the second device (which I have now) have 3 problems:
2) two dead or stuck pixel ( :-/ )
3) the speakers make a noise: something is vibrating inside the case so it results in a distorted sound. If keep pressing the lower part of the case with my hands the noise disappear so seems 2 metallic piece inside the case touch each other in a wrong way.
4) the laptop doesnt touch the desk properly: one rubber feet does not touch the ground so making the laptop moving when typing.

Other Thoughts: Four hardware problem in 2 device is a very hi percentage of hardware failure. but overall I love this laptop.
Should I go to the exorcist before the Samsung service center? ;-)

3 out of 5 eggsAwesome ultrabook with a really cheap keyboard

Pros: Everything you've read. Light, powerful, long runtime on battery... all around I really like this ultrabook a lot.

Cons: The keyboard on this thing is really cheap. Specifically, the key caps. Upon arrival the "/?" key was half detached from its mount and broke when I tried to reattach it. Samsung demands you send the entire unit in to replace this $2 keycap so I ordered one for about $12. Approximately a week later the "r" key had the exact same problem. The mounting clips on the bottom side of the key caps are far too thing and fragile. If I have another one break I am sending this unit back and getting something else (assuming they even allow me to do that).

Other Thoughts: I really like Samsung products over all. Having the very thing you touch the most (besides perhaps the trackpad) on this unit be so cheap though is frustrating. Samsung's refusal to simply mail me a new key cap and instead demanding I actually ship the unit so that some tech can spend 10 seconds popping on a new key cap is a bit ridiculous too.

The Ultra 5 I had before this had no such problems.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Thin/Light and all others everybody mention.

Cons: Quality control

Other Thoughts: I got this laptop with a dead pixel right out of the box. It was a pain to return and no refund possible. I could get a gift card and in the ordered another laptop (X1 Carbon). It came with a dead pixel, too. A google/youtube search on the np900x3c and newegg and you will find out how many of these came with dead pixels and other defects (like trackpad).

Painful return policies and return/replacement processes.

The staff is kind and useful but the policy stinks, included the fact that so many laptops are faulty.

Very disappointed and tired about this.

5 out of 5 eggsNice ultrabook

Pros: Very nice, light and seems like it's very high quality. I haven't had any of the trackpad issues others have reported - I nearly didn't purchase it for that reason. It's much lighter than my Asus Prime Ultrabook and more "manly" to boot.

Cons: I purchased this for my wife, she typed one sentence and hated the keyboard. She took my Asus Prime and now I'm using this. My only real complaint is the keyboard, the keys take a little more effort to press and if I really get going (can type 100+ WPM) I miss letters. I hope I get used to it or they get worn in. Another complaint - it didn't come with a micro HDMI to VGA which I had to purchase as I use it for presentations. Additionally I'm picking up a cheap sleeve. The Asus came with both of those.

Other Thoughts: This is an awesome ultrabook - it didn't review as well as the Asus, but I honestly like it better.

3 out of 5 eggsSamsung quality except the LCD

Pros: This machine is everything I expected, and wanted. My friend owns a series 9 and there were nothing but positive things that were said about it. I had to have one!

Cons: Unfortunately I came across a dead pixel the other day that since, has become very annoying. I contacted Newegg to see what could be done but unfortunately it sounds like I would have to contact Samsung and go through the whole process of having it repaired, that is even if they see it as defective. I have owned numerous Samusung displays and currently own a Samsung LCD TV that is well over 5 years old and to this day doesn't have one dead pixel. Maybe the quality has gone downhill from what I originally expected.

Other Thoughts: Kinda bummed about the dead pixel issue. I spend a lot of time on this laptop and it takes away from the quality experience I expected from Samsung.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic ultrathin notebook

Pros: This is the prefect laptop for travel. Lightweight, superb matte screen and reasonably powerful. The keyboard is fine for most work and backlit, although it could be a bit brighter. It has the Samsung "Fn Lock" so you can select dedicated F function keys if needed and have a home, end, page up and page down key at a single stroke. It has a lighted Capslock Key as well. Screen bezel is small and overall footprint is tiny. Great build quality and the touchpad is as smooth as glass. Battery life is around 4 hours with general use and some Netflix added in and while it does get warm near the battery it is nearly silent. The finish on the top and wrist rest area is a delight to touch.

Cons: Smallish hard drive, keyboard backlight could be brighter, only two usb ports, no visible led charging indicator.

Other Thoughts: Not a gaming machine and if your not a fan of matte screens you may want to see if the screen is in your comfort zone. I got mine from Newegg as an open box unit, it was in perfect condition and operates flawlessly. This is the best travel computer I have ever owned.

4 out of 5 eggsupdate on my return...

Pros: everything but the quality control of Samsung!!!
Really, I open the box and see, right off the bat, that the top is Blue. I lift it up and the bottom is the Mineral Ash Black that the rest should be. It is obviously seen around the joint where the lcd meets the chassis!!! Come on Samsung! Everything works fine on this machine. The trackpad is tight and as far as I can tell it's running well.

Cons: quality control. I feel like I paid retail for a refurb. Why else would the LCD be a different color unless they were piecing these together off the assembly line???

Other Thoughts: It's like buying a car with the doors a little bit different color than the just doesn't fly with me...sorry.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Ultrabook

Pros: This is a great computer in almost every area. The idea of owning a computer like this is that you want something ultra-portable (like a netbook) but powerful like your average desktop or above standard laptop. It has all of that. The undervolted i5 processor feels and acts like a quad core even if there are only 2 cores, and the 4GB of ram is more than enough to handle most of the standard user's computer needs. Intel's new integrated graphics have also been fun to play with, they are a big step up from the 3k series that was released years ago. I can handle most games at the amazing 1600x900 resolution on low to medium settings (I wouldn't get it to game, though). The battery life is great also. I can get at least 4 hours sitting in netflix watching movies, and over 6 if I am typing or just browsing the web. What makes this laptop stand out, though? The weight and slim design. It is an eye catcher, people see it and they don't know how to respond. Great way to start a conversation.

Cons: This can hardly even be considered a con, but you will not be able to really use this as a gaming computer for newer games. It's more of a point I felt like sharing, that if you want a computer for gaming, this really isn't it. I mean, it can handle your Steam library, but just not on very high settings. For example tribes ascend, on a battery, needs to be played at a lower resolution in order to be enjoyed. Again, not really a con, I didn't buy this for gaming. It would be nice if it had a larger solid state drive too, but if I actually need to store big files for some reason I just back them up online (e.g. dropbox) or use a portable hdd (Not an issue if necessary).

Other Thoughts: This computer is one of the most fun that I have had to play with yet! I was super stoked when I saw how little bloatware came with the computer. Normally I would have to do a complete wipe of the drive, but this time I just installed 2 programs and was set. I am also going to take advantage of Windows' $15 upgrade to 8 this fall, so it's nice to keep things the way they are on the computer for that time. It doesn't create any dilemmas. Something else that I am noting here is that the computer turns on from sleep and from being powered off at an insane speed. The SSD is quick like a bunny, possibly faster, and I really am enjoying that start-up time.

5 out of 5 eggsvery happy

Pros: i love everything about this laptop. super fast, boots up in less than 20 seconds, and wakes up in 1 second from sleep mode.
no problems with wifi like the other user says, or loose trackpad.
if you need a powerful, light computer, with great battery life...this is it.

Cons: price?

Other Thoughts: would have liked a bigger ssd, but no complaints overall
