5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: So far so good on the dv7-1260us. very crisp screen, i love the full keyboard and the Blue Ray player. in response to others reviews, keyboard is no issue at all. very easy to see even in little to no lighting. Bloat ware is an issue with every new computer, advertisements are how they keep costs down, very simple to just go in and remove

Cons: WLAn key should not be on the media touch bar on the top. it is a bit annoying, turns on and off sometimes on its own. I am going to replace the 5400rpm drive with a 7200. but thats just personal preference, not really needed. Vista... i am not a huge vista fan and do not like all of the help it gives you. yes you can turn many of these features off, its just an inconvienence.

Other Thoughts: I am going away to college and this computer is a great portable desktop. would highly recommend to anyone.

Pros: great laptop first of all HP, great CPU speed for a laptop 2.20GHz, built in BD combo with light scribe, AMD processor great for gaming 4GB of memeory and a 400GB hard, with a 17in screen, This laptop is built for gaming

Cons: ATI graphics card but it's all good

Other Thoughts: if you want a cheap gaming laptop this is the one it's under 1000$ and it comes with a blu-ray player and great CPU speed

5 out of 5 eggsMy 2nd laptop is a homerun (so far)

Pros: 400 gig hard drive, big 17 inch screen, BLU-RAY, bluetooth compatibility

Cons: No subwoofer or tv tuner built in

Other Thoughts: I love it. I'm gonna take the Juice's advice and add the subwoofer. I'll take a chance on a usb tv tuner (stick).
If anything funky happens, I'll update this review, but for now, two thumbs WAY up.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Awesome system, this was a gift I got for my wife to replaced her old desktop. It's a fast system and only wish it came with a quad core cpu but she's not complaining one bit. Nice bright display with webcam and tons of portable hard drive space, full keyboard (means no cramped typing). I compared prices for the same exact system on HP.com and it came out to $1,200, this is a great buy.

Cons: The only con I had is the UPS delivery guy delivered the package to the wrong address (a few doors down) and just left it at their side entrance. Fortunately he was honest and gave us the package.

Other Thoughts: Great buy!

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed, A great Buy!

Pros: The first thing that will blow you away with this laptop is the screen! Its HUGE, crisp, and very bright. Its quite a shocking difference from my 13" Macbook. The specs for this machine are great for the price. Blue Ray, 400gb HD, and 4gb of Ram great! I looked at getting a new 17" Apple Macbook, but for $3,000 forget about it!

I had and HP laptop in college that held on for 8 years so I thought I would give HP another go. I am glad I did, this system is sleek and suprsingly well designed for a PC. The exterior is sleek with a metalic bronze glossy finish. The HP logo is back lit which is kinda cool as well as the rest of the lighting scheme for the user bar above the key board, all backlit in the coolest white-blue color.

The system is pretty fast, and the windows media center is probably the best vista has to offer, but I wills say the graphics are much better then windows XP. I bought this system for movies and music, the screen , HD, and Blue Ray make this a great b

Cons: Size, this is a big computer, but if you want a 17" screen that is what your going to get. Def better as a semi-mobile desktop system then a portable machine to carry everywhere. Its a bit heavy once you pop in the battery as well.

Other Thoughts: The keyboard is hughe. I suppose this is a good thing but it takes some getting use to, maybe a day or so. I dont really use the 10 key pad so a bit of over kill for me but it is nice when you need to enter your credit card number and such. The 64 bit Windows Vista system is okay I guess...its still not MAC OSX but if you have never loved a mac, what do you care :-).

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Computer

Pros: I picked this model up at an unbelievable $750 with MIR. I couldn't pass up this deal on a system with 64-bit Vista, 4 GB RAM, Blu-ray drive, large HD, and high resolution. It has crystal clear picture quality with good viewing angles, not too glossy at all. The battery lasts about three hours on power saver mode which for me is plenty of time to do work away from a desk. I love the new design. It's a grayish-bronze laptop, different from any laptop I've seen. For a built-in webcam, it gives good quality pictures and video. The sound card has amazing quality output, especially for headphones. The laptop doesn't get too hot. The touchpad isn't too sensitive, about just right. The keyboard has a nice soft feel. Lightweight for a 17" laptop.

Cons: The laptop picks up fingerprints easily. Bloatware is an expected characteristic on a retail brand laptop. It's not a big deal to spend 15 minutes to remove it all. I don't recommend using Norton, which it comes with. No firewire port. The touch control of the volume bar is a little picky. I was disappointed to find out the BIOS is locked. The speakers could be better even though the sound card is great. The sound from the speakers seems flat, but I always wear headphones anyways. This is probably due to the optional subwoofer that isn't included.

Other Thoughts: I want to know how to add the optional subwoofer that is available to the dv7 series. The non-lighted keyboard doesn't bother me. The size is not a big deal because it does fit in my Adidas backpack with a number of books. I have yet to watch any HD movies. This model is worth the current price of $950. It's a well built, solid machine. This is my first laptop. I needed one for college convenience because my 2.5 year old custom PC (built from Newegg of course) has its limitations. This model can easily replace PCs.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat computer

Pros: Very sleek, bright crisp screen gives amazing clarity. full size keyboard is a huge plus for me, for i use the number pad quite often. runs smooth if you keep it clean of bloat ware. i got the 500gb and is more than enough for me. the Altec lansing speakers are some of the best speakers i've ever heard for a laptop, but if you are planning for some serious sound blasting or music making, i would invest in speakers. the two headphone jacks are a small but surprisingly useful addition to a computer.built in webcam and microphone works great giving a good picture and video. bluray seemingly won the format war and this computer is ready, not only to watching on the computer but to connect to a hd tv with the built in hdmi slot.

Cons: Bloatware! for some reason it came with programs for a tv tuner chip.... i wish the keys were lit, can be next to impossible to see in the dark unless the laptop is nearly closed. the volume control can be a bit frustrating if you have large fingers. weight! not bad if it hardly leaves the house but with the addition of a 60lb backpack full of books, this thing can become a hassle.

Other Thoughts: this computer is built well, hp knew what they were doing, i would suggest this laptop to anyone looking for one. it can big so i would sujjest buying one based on size then performance.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Impressed

Pros: I purchased this laptop because other manufacturers prices were much higher for the same specs. I am please with the overall performance. I've had no problems with the 64 bit Vista yet. Older programs work just fine. Battery life good for the type of machine. The machine does not run hot which is nice. Occasionally the cooling fan kicks in and is a little noisy but otherwise it's very quiet. Display is crisp and bright and the resolution is excellent. 400gb drive is great! Plenty of USB ports (4). The only thing left to do is test the Blu-ray on my 46" Samsung LCD using the HDMI port. No DOA or driver issues for me.

Cons: NORTON!!!! Used to be a big Norton fan years ago. Now I completely uninstalled it as well as the usual "Bloatware" you get on most computers. That freed up Memory and Processor speed greatly. The vertical scrolling feature on the right side of the touchpad is annoying sometimes. No Bluetooth. Not that I use it that much and a small Bluetooth dongle and be purchased for next to nothing.

Other Thoughts: This is a PC replacement type of laptop and is not "ultra Portable". At 7.5 lbs, running off the local coffee shop is not that convenient. Still you can't take your PC with you when you go on a trip either. I wish the Audio ports were on the side instead of the front.
