2 out of 5 eggsBe Warned!

Pros: Very good video card for the price, beautiful case, got this for 599.99 with MAR, plays all my games at full settings, just played AVATAR in DX10 on everything full settings no glitches or anything. I loved this laptop, but the cons outway my love for it and that is why i sent it back.

Cons: The first time i turned it on the screen never came on, so i turned it off then back on and then it froze on startup. Tried again and got to the installation and everything, that was good, then it restarted and the screen stayed black again. I read somehwere that if u take out the batter and unplug it and then hold the power button down for 30 secs then the screen will come back on, tried it and it works. Bad thing here is, i installed windows 7 64bit, MSI has absolutely NOTHING to support ANY 64bit operating system, nothing, no utilities, bios, drivers nothing. I had alrdy installed windows 7 before looking, didnt really think to look considering it is kinda silly to not support a 64bit operating system. After this everytime the laptop would sleep or hibernate when it would come abck from sleep the screen would not come back on, so u have to do what i said about the battery and unplugging it to get it to work again. MSI support on the phone or computer is absoultely terrible-------

Other Thoughts: ran out of room there
the support and customer service doesnt speak english very well, so if you are not used to HEAVY accents then u wont know what they r saying, they also transfer u back and forth from one another and u never get ur questions answered. I really cannot think of anymore cons to put here, i know there are some more, but i just cant remember.. OOO! the panel at the top of the keyboard is LOOSE and MUSHY, the turbo button is a gimick, it does increase ur CPU speed, but that only cuz they clock it down to allow u to safely overclock their hardware.. my eco button didnt work as well, im guessing it was just mine on that..o and after about 5 minutes of use it gets SUPER SUPER hot on the right side... and all that hot shoots out too, but it makes the whole thing hot.. gonna get an ASUS X83VP-X1 instead, cant go wrong with ASUS, took a chance on its Taiwan competitor and MSI failed, no 64bit driver support really did it in for me too along witht he other things..

2 out of 5 eggsAwesome while it lasted

Pros: For the price, this thing is a great deal. It runs most games at mid-high settings, and the turbo button is pretty useful. The aluminum casing smudges easily, but it looks awesome so that's not a huge issue.

Cons: MSI's customer service is an absolute nightmare. I hadn't owned this thing for more than 3 months when it began acting up. The screen would give me some weird vertical lines on startup, and it wouldn't respond to any commands I gave it. I called MSI and paid $45 to send it to them. I got a call from them about a week later saying that it was working fine when they got it. I was kinda perplexed but happy that they were sending it back. When it arrived, sure enough it was working fine. For about 4 days. Then the lines came back, coupled with a weird whining noise from the rear of the computer. I called them again, said that I wasn't happy at all with their service. The guy said that I should ship it to them again and they would replace the OS, fan, and video card. So I did. It was about 3 weeks there and back. I finally have it again, except now whenever Windows installs its updates, the HDD crashes or something and requires me to run Windows Startup Repair.

Other Thoughts: This customer service is absolutely ridiculous. I'm a college student. I need this computer for classes. It's been a bit less than two months since I first sent the computer away (2 months which I spent using my roommate's computer for my papers), and the issues still haven't been resolved. I'm going to call them and tell them to either send me a brand new computer or give me my money back.

5 out of 5 eggsOver a year and still rockin

Pros: Excellent graphics for the price. At the time this was one of the best you could get sub-2k. Plays games, movies and autocad without issues. Beautiful case, striking physical features. Push button Turbo does work well, increases processor via oc without instability. I like the number keypad, but it does take getting used to the changes in the keypad. I really feel that this is an awesome laptop for desktop use. Some dislike the keypad layout, but since I use this laptop every day, it makes other laptops weird to use. The heat vent on the right isn't a disadvantage in cold environments, my wife is always cold and loves the fact that her hand is kept warm when she is using the mouse.

Cons: Battery life is very short, maybe 2 hours on Eco mode, an hour or less with performance. Weird keyboard takes some getting used to, I still haven't mastered the shift key being half the size it should be and miss it once in a great while, it is getting better. I have an occasional problem with the wireless NIC, sometimes it loses signal and doesn't detect. I enter device manager and disable and then reenable and it comes right back up. More of an inconvenience than a con, but thought I would mention it. One final note, the standby led's are really really really bright, I have to cover them to keep them from keeping me awake at night.

Other Thoughts: Vista update actually lost user profile, had to restore in safe mode and then I figured I should make a back up disk. After that, I would recommend you make a back up BEFORE you have a problem.
I would really like a larger battery for a spare, maybe a car battery because this thing can convert some watts!

4 out of 5 eggs1 year review, just added Windows 7

Pros: Great value when originally purchased. Lots of bells and whistles for the price.

Cons: Resolution, partitioned hard drive and keyboard. I like that there is a number keypad, but now all the keys are smaller.

Other Thoughts: I just bought Windows 7 the other day and I am so far very impressed. First of all, the resolution is now better. Second, it installed quickly and had no problems finding all my drivers. I did have the WLAN problem where if I accidentally turned it off (easy to do with the touch interface above the keyboard), I would have to restart the computer to get it to work again. Luckily, there was an update for my adapter that seems to have fixed that problem. Kudos to Windows 7 for its functionality and ease of use. It's also faster and I think it's prettier as well.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI brings a bargain

Pros: Decent at gaming. Able to multitask. Price after rebate was 700 dollars. On the fly power settings and overclocking. Light weight. Brushed aluminum is sexy. Magnetic latch is a nice touch. 3 year warranty.

Cons: Keyboard feels a little awkward and slightly mushy at first. Average resolution. GPU is semi proprietary so you must rely on MSI for driver updates. The power supply brick is on the larger side. The air exhaust is on the right side making the heat blow on your mouse hand.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop so I could bring some mild gaming with me while I travel. For the price this laptop is awesome. My main game at the moment, Aion, runs at medium high settings. The Geforce 9600m GT is similar to and performs the same as a desktop Geforce 9500 GT. While this will never replace my desktop for gaming, it is a suitable substitute while I'm away from home.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellence beyond Excellence!

Pros: Runs like a dream, easily beats many $1200 laptops. Cheap, comes with an automatic overclock (the Turbo button). Touch interface buttons a very nice touch. Full keyboard with number pad is nice as well. I have personally tested this laptop with Fallout 3 on high settings and World of Warcraft on max settings. I can even multitask in Vista with Fallout 3 running in the background. Both run perfectly fine, with only small hiccups for a fraction of a second every now and then, probably due to HDD I/O. The video card is one of the best you can get in a laptop. The case is brushed aluminum and has been put through tons of durability tests.

Cons: KEYBOARD LAYOUT! This is easily the biggest and most easily noticed flaw. The keyboard layout is flat-out dumb. There are 2 \| buttons...One above the enter key where it belongs and another one right beside the spacebar for some reason. The left control key is oddly placed, especially for gamers. The keyboard also takes a little getting used to. The card reader's dummy card was easily taken out, but was impossible to get back in and when i DID get it back in, it went too far and got stuck, requiring a screwdriver to get it out. The laptop bluescreened on the first day, no doubt due to Vista stupidity -- NOT HARDWARE. The OS has a few strange issues too, but nothing very major. The battery life is short as all heck and I've had trouble trying to charge the battery -- it just got stuck at certain percentages and I'd unplug it and replug it and it'd charge, it was really weird. Battery lasts 2 hours on highest eco mode, maybe 1 and a half on full blast.

Other Thoughts: Didn't have space in cons, but the PageUp/PageDown keys double as Home and End, another funky keyboard quirk. Also, they keyboard kind of pops up and down on the right side, but that may just be my specific laptop.

Heat -- this is both a pro and a con so I put it here. It does generate significant heat, but using it on a desk at least, I can't really tell unless I put my hand right by the output fan. Turbo button doesn't work when unplugged.

Overall, this Laptop is one gigantic tradeoff. You get amazing performance at the price of junk keyboard and a few cheaply made parts (the LiteOn AC adapter, the battery, the keyboard). The CPU isn't the best, but it's plenty for gaming or office work.

All-in-all, this laptop is a pretty good steal. You get $1400 performance for $700 (after rebate). Just remember that a few of the parts ARE cheap (albeit none of the major internal components).
