1 out of 5 eggsWorst Purchase of my Life

Pros: If it were work perfectly, and everything was done right. I would be satifised with the power and set up of the laptop.

Cons: I bought this computer for college and had nothing but issues from start to finish. The computer would have the bluescreen of death multiple times a day and restart randomly because of that. Whenever restarting it would try and fail to run a disc check, often wasting half an hour of my life each time. these issues got worse and worse until finally the computer would not get past the "welcome" windows screen, so i paid 200 dollars to save some data and get it fixed, but afterwards it still has the issues. I can use it again and have my data back but I was told that the windows I recieved was corrupt. and that I was given corrupt RAM. Not impressed with MSI. Also the wireless device worked 50 % of the time, I had to reinstall or restart my computer everytime I wanted to use the internet.

Other Thoughts: I would like some kind of help from MSI without another large portion of my money.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat price/value, with one minor issue

Pros: Very good laptop, powerful and can handle pretty much any game you throw at it and can handle moderate settings producing good quality graphic levels. It can even run DX11 games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 at medium settings, which still looks phenomenal. Has HDMI output.

Cons: The eSATA port is somewhat ill designed. My eSATA cable, if not in straight will not register, so if it is nudged while in there, and considering its on the side where my mouse usually is, will make my external disconnect.
Several times when playing newer games that use DX10 or even DX11 graphics, with most settings at medium, it overheats and shuts down. Very frustrating. I have a cooler now and it still happens. However, it does not bother me as much any more as I am building a desktop.
The function and ctrl buttons are swapped, I dont know why, but I'd prefer it if they weren't.
I wish all three USB ports were on one side, the one USB that is one the side where my mouse usually is sometimes gets in the way.
IMO I would've swapped the location of the CD ROM drive to the right side and had all the inputs on the left. Most laptops have it that way, and in my setup that way would have worked out best for me.

Other Thoughts: All in all I am still satisfied cause it is a powerful laptop for a reasonably good price. I just hope MSI reads these reviews and makes some sort of checklist so they can address all these issues and come out with a newer model which has most of them addressed.

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy

Pros: - Great quality. The chasis feels solid, and suprisingly light. Gotta love innovation. MSI seems to know how to build a great lappy for the price without sacrificing durability.
- Good looks. A little flashy but hey, who doesen't like their rig noticed?
- High end graphics card. The 5870 HD Broadway runs games pretty fluidly, I'm quite impressed.
- Sound. I've never heard a laptop with better sound that comes stock. 7.1 channel headphone outputs is sweet, I hooked up 2 sets of external powered speakers, wow, mini theatre!!
- Touchpad controls. The Eco mode is a nice bonus, as well as the cinemapro feature.
- eSata. Haven't utilized it yet but plan to, also a nice feature for the price.
HDMI - When I'm at home I use it for movies on my LCD TV. Also a great feature.
- Warranty. Didn't have to pay hundreds just to protect my investment. This tells me that MSI stands behind their products and that's one less thing I need to worry about!

Cons: - Needs USB 3.0 ports. MSI went all out with most of the available options but missed this, maybe due to price? At present time I don't have any devices that support it so no biggie to me.
- I've got big hands and the keyboard layout is different from what I'm used to (XPS) but I'll get used to it, as it's something everyone goes through with different models. If there was an option for a keyboard without the numpad I'd be 150% sataisfied!
- Temperature runs a little high, but that's expected for high end video cards. Got a cooling pad and that helps alot.
- Like others, I'd like a Windows 7 OS disk with all up to date drivers. Back ups are okay, but I'd like the option.
- These are more things I'd like personally and all in all I knew what I was buying and got what I paid for so no eggs deducted!

Other Thoughts: There wasn't loads of bloatware installed like some people have reviewed. Maybe that was included in past models or bundles but not with the E7405. Norton trial was easily and quickly uninstallable along with MS trials like Works and Office. 6 mins with a reset and bang, clean OS. I've went from my "competing brand" to this MSI and I have to say I'm very happy. I understand that there's less RAM and a smaller drive compared to some others but it's obviously to cut down on price. Makes sense and I can get those things cheaper anyway down the road. The harddrive bay looks a little deeper to support the thicker harddrives. That rocks, when drives get larger I'm not limited to the 500gig size limit.

Customer service was great! There was an issue with purchasing on the website but that was due to an incorrect canadian postal code format. CS quickly resolved the issue within hours and I was about to purchase no problem. Thanks Sarah E!!

5 out of 5 eggsNervous Buyer, But Very Happy

Pros: 1) Price
2) Radeon 5870 Card
3) Speed
4) Three Year Warranty

Cons: 1) Function and Control Keys Switched. For gaming, this takes some getting used to. I've actually programmed a button on my mouse as control to help with the issue.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this laptop and I was concerned about the following things after reading forums and doing research. I had a tough time choosing between this model and an ASUS G73 refurb. In the end, I'm very glad I purchased this laptop. Having something reater than a 90 day warranty brings me some peace of mind...

1) Overheating: The first thing I did was flash the BIOS and VBIOS with the new drivers from MSI. I have not had any heating issues. I do use a laptop cooling pad.
2) Keyboard Flex: I have not noticed this issue, and I've tried to find this problem.
3) Function and Control Keys switched: This did turn out to be quite annoying.

I have been playing Starcraft 2 on high setting with no problems. I did not notice any heat on either of the wrist rest locations. All in all this is a great laptop for the price if you're looking for a device that can run current PC games withotu spending $1500+.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat, at first

Pros: This laptop runs very fast, and it was able to handle everything I threw at it with no problems. Every game ran on max settings, most games ran over 100 fps.

Cons: Unfortunately, after just over two months of ownership the Wireless Card just died on me. Won't connect to any wireless networks, even though it sees them. I've gone over multiple troubleshooting processes to no avail, and my efforts culminated in reinstalling Windows 7 with the same issue. This leaves me with the conclusion that it's a hardware issue. Very disappointed with this, and I can't send it back right now since I have to use it for school. Of course, I don't think I'd be eligible for repairs anyway since it's been long past 30 days.

Other Thoughts: I tend to play RTS games so it doesn't matter much to me, but the control and function keys are flipped. Can be very awkward when playing FPSes.

1 out of 5 eggsSpeechless

Pros: Not one at all.

Cons: Cons:
As soon as I recieved the PC I installed World of Warcraft and Fallout 3. While WoW was updating I tried out Fallout. It would freeze as soon as the opening video ended. I waited for WoW to update, and started it up. The game was full of artifacts and was unplayable.
I updated every driver I could and even installed 4 diffrent video drivers and had the same problem. I called MSI and they told me to send it back to newegg for replacement, and I did.
I recieved and e-mail from newegg today saying there is nothing wrong with the machine, and they will be sending it back to me.(they ran a benchmark) I called them and asked them to install a real game and they will see that there is a problem. (week later) I recieve an e-mail saying my unit was fine and being returned. get it back a week later and it still doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: 45 days after purchase the unit it as a local MSI dealer(I'm having to pay them) and they clearly see it has a faulty graphics card. They are going to contact newegg and see about a replacement, but I am clearly out of the 30 day window. Speechless.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny

Pros: Nice big screen, keyboard has a nice touch to it, the key pad is a must for me and feels great, built in web cam has is pretty good, the speakers are amazing on it in my opinion, the overall appearance of the computer actually looked a lot nicer than in the pictures provided

Cons: Some cheap material was used, for example at the bottom right corner of the laptop there is this thin metal piece that wasnt properly stuck on and it partly hanging out. Its not a big deal but i'll probably glue it back on or something.
A bigger HD would of been nice as well (500gb instead of 320gb)

Other Thoughts: The position of the Fn key confuses me sometime as im use to having the ctrl key there so it gets a bit of getting use to when gaming. Also there is no light next to the caps lock that tells you if its on or not which would of been nice to have but in no way affects the quality of the product.
The computer got here quickly, took 2 days for it to arrive which
I was actually considering buying the alienware m15x until a friend showed me this one and in no way do i regret it
Overall its a really good computer especially with the 3 year warranty (which in order to get you need to register your computer on the MSI website)

5 out of 5 eggsLaptop is great for the price

Pros: 11963 3dMark06 out of the box, very fast, great for SC2. Speaker system sounds great, best I have heard in a laptop (4 speakers 1 sub). very nice keyboard (i am very picky with this). The keys have the feel of a pc keyboard. The screen is very nice. the keypad is also nice. Laptop is very light considering... Top material for the laptop is very nice.

Cons: Some obvious cheap material was used, the laptop has a slight green in the aluminum parts which imo doesn't go too well with the red surround. that huge sticker underneath. The heat vent is on the right side of the laptop, so your hand has to be a distance away or it will sweat. 500gb hd would be nice. Tough to find a date on eHarmony, women apparently care nothing for laptops...

Other Thoughts: Overall, for the price, compared to other units, it is great, the e-sata is a bonus since the hd is so small. The fan does go pretty strong when gaming (but not overly noisy). For some reason the usb ports point slightly down. You might see some people put down the screen since it is just short of 1080p...

... seriously, those guys are probably half etardedra. This is not a 50" screen.

IMO this screen is an advantage, since the native resolution (which you should run stuff at) is lower and even though the video card is great for a laptop it is still slower than my 4870, so it will run games a bit faster. I was going to do a video review but I am in my boxers...
