5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Laptop at awesome price

Pros: 1) very portable, makes it pointless to want an "ultrabook" when this is so light and many times more powerful than any ultrabook I Have seen for way cheaper

2) dedicated gfx card which can be controled from nvidia control panel (you can let it auto detect to use the 540 or intel but you can also tell it on a per program basis which to use which overrides battery saver settings allowing you to game without being plugged in)

3) amazing price for what you get its awsome

4) great keyboard, has its quirks due to a few buttons being weird sized but its still niceto type or game on.

Cons: 1) one of the pixels died but honestly the pixel density on this screen is enough that I barely notice it and sometimes cannot even find it.

2) it can get somewhat hot but its not bad, if you are sitting it on anything or had a cooling pad (highly recommend one) its a none issue.

3) Battery life is good but not as great as they make it seem

Other Thoughts: Its a great balance, there is one other brand with a model that is similar but I prefer MSI due to a much better reputation and bad experiences with tech support from the other company. It is a great laptop and I love it its perfect, its not a desktop replacement its a laptop in all the ways it needs to be, its big enough to be nice to use (both the screen and keyboard) but small enough to be very portable and it has enough power to do anything a laptop should and much more.

I can easily play all games on it in Medium or higher settings including SPACE MARINE, AVA, Command and Conquer Red Alert 3, Starcraft 2, and every other game i have thrown at it easily.

This is perfect if you need an all around computer(and if you want more powerful a up-spec'ed version is also available) and if you (like me) already have a desktop.

1 out of 5 eggsMSI is junk

Pros: Nice Screen, Great keyboard.

Cons: Wireless card shuts off at random. Battery lasted for 8 months then needed replaced.

Other Thoughts: Okay to be far I have owned 3 MSI products and they just do not last. The netbook and this laptop both have wireless card issues. none of my other systems do this. Battery packs do not last they burn out way to fast. I have used a msi motherboard and bought a Asus at the same time 6 yrs ago the msi board burned out in 2 yrs the asus still works. If you want your purchase to last do not buy MSI period.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop!!!

Pros: Sandy Bridge
Fast Hard Drive
Nivida GT540 w/ Optimus Tech
USB 3 - very impressed with it over USB2
Good Keyboard - also a con see below..
LIGHT only 1lb more than my 12" Netbook
THIN same thickness as my 12"Netbook (Acer AO722)
AWESOME BATTERY

Cons: Keyboard is great except the right shift key is a little small and I'm getting use to it, but it was awkward at first.. other than that the keyboard is great and I can type very fast on it.

Trackpad works great, but it is very sensitive when typing and I constantly hit it and move the cursor when it is turn on.. fortunately I turn it off and use a Microsoft wireless mouse 4000 that I got for $5 from woot!

Other Thoughts: I'm very impress by the battery life on this machine.. of course if you are playing games and such it sucks down the battery but normal web browsing and word processing for school it battery lasts 6-7 hours... My Acer AO722 with the C-50 AMD chip only lasts about 5 hours.. and this machine is MUCH faster.. Only thing this unit doesn't have is the i5 with turbo boost if only one core is in use but it;s very quickb without it.. not alot of bloatware on the machine...

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely good deal at this price

Pros: Light
Sandy bridge, very fast cpu
Very good discrete graphics
Optical drive
3 usb
Very good screen size and brightness.
Comes with some benchmarking software pre-installed, which I thought was a nice gesture... Clearly they made this unit for performance-minded users.
Hasn't gotten hot at all

Cons: The wifi button doesn't work but the pamphlet explains that you use f8 to turn it on instead (so that isn't really a con)
The trackpad is a little weird sometimes in that it gets jittery, but I chalk that up to not having used this unit enough.
Backspace key is not at the edge (but I'm used to a netbook layout)
Norton is preinstalled
The HDD spins a little louder than my fiancee's MBP and clearly louder than my netbook (it had an SSD though)

None of these things are major complaints though. I'm trying really hard to think of what I don't like. Nothing is enough to knock this score down an egg (20%).

Other Thoughts: First off, I would consider myself to have somewhat tech knowledge (I work in electrical engineering and used to build computers in my free time). At any rate, I use newegg for many purchases, and due to their awesome prices I was able to find several laptops that fit my criteria (including a very nice but refurbished samsung with a quad core i7, various lenovo and other msi builds). However, this machine is going for $650 right now, and with these specs (and with this weight) I had to get it. I am thoroughly satisfied. I was a former netbook user, and this is only about a pound heavier than my mini-9 and about an order of magnitude (really immeasurably) faster. It runs 3dmark06 twice as fast as my fiancee's MPB 13" 2011 model (at half the price!), and is almost comparable to my desktop build. I am so surprised this machine has a Sandy Bridge unit, very nice discrete graphics, a good amount of ram, a low weight, and an optical drive for such a low price! Really a solid buy!

5 out of 5 eggsSleek, Fast, Light, Great battery

Pros: Great computer, lightweight and good looks as well as packing some serious power for its size and price range. Yeah there may seem to be some good competition from Acer and other brands but many with the same specs had some heat and throttling issues as well as lacking a dvd drive and don't get as good of battery life. I get about 5 and a half on one charge. pretty decent when you consider what this thing can do. It'll play most modern games at decent settings. The keyboard feels great, nice chicklet style, a lot of brushed aluminum on this thing which makes it look real nice. low heat, perfect for fitting into a backpack. I bought this for college, does the job great. Not one hickup yet

Cons: aluminum gets a good amount of fingerprints but honestly, i have other things to care about instead of whether or not i have finger smudges on my computer or not. Obviously you're not gonna get an amazing screen on this but for any average person, its a great screen, bright colors, good resolution (could be higher but you'd pay wayy more for a 14"). Oh yeah, an i5 woulda been nice, but an i3 does everything i need it to do. plus i guess it saves battery?

Other Thoughts: Look around, this things got it all if you're a student or whatnot. I bought this for college as my main computer to do work as well as play music, browse and maybe play the occasional game every now and then. The GT 540M is a great little card for its price range in these models. i know it'll be able to handle most games for a couple years to come unlike most laptop graphics that become subpar 2 months after release.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop but...

Pros: -Great Specs
-Small and Portable
-Light
-Battery Life is great

Cons: -Service, I tried registering my product for warranty, maybe its due to IE9's fault, but my product doesn't appear under registered and now I'm out of a 1 year warrenty
-I found 2 abnormal pixels, one dead and the other one half dead, I would ask MSi about it but with what warranty?
-The Lock chasm to lock the battery in is a little flimsy (one of them is). One acts like a switch and the other acts with a spring.
-Function and F10 doesn't work (turning on the Wifi)

Other Thoughts: I've only had it today but with these solid impressions, I hope there is tech support to help me with these problems, this is a great laptop, the price is right and its a beast of a machine for such a small laptop. Its a great laptop for a college present, but with the present defects, I'm sorta worried about the future of my laptop
