3 out of 5 eggsWith the exception of the touch pad a solid machine

Pros: This is a stellar machine. I was using a Toshiba for the last few years and was hesitant to switch to a different brand but needed a much higher end laptop for college. I don't game but this Laptop runs all the programs I use (inventor, Rivet, Auto cad etc.) with no lag at all. lots of storage and the already installed 16gb is a nice bonus. Compared to other laptops at this price it blows everything out of the water.

Cons: the cons are all aesthetic. I do not like the key board layout. The Toshiba laptops I have had were more spread out and offered a small space between the f buttons and directional buttons. I much prefer that layout as opposed to this one. I also do not care for the lack of a manual audio adjustment control on this model. It is controlled with the hot keys that come pre-installed but a dedicated switch would have been nice. As these are personal preferences I would not dock the score and would have given it a 5 egg review, the touch pad however is horrible.

Thankfully you can turn the touch pad off by the touch of a button. When typing my palm will briefly apply pressure to the pad and the cursor reacts on the screen. When typing this is very very annoying. The response of the pad is very sporadic, sometimes it goes where you want it to, and others it goes all over the place. There is no dual finger scroll, and the rightmost pad scroll does not work at all, the page merely jumps.

Other Thoughts: As the other review stated i would very much appreciate a driver to address the touch pad issue. If that is issued and corrects all the problems that the touch pad has i would raise the review. I purchased the laptop to use for drafting and will be utilizing a mouse for the majority of my time with this, if you will be using a mouse as well this is a great deal and a great machine. If you utilize the touch pad for most of your computing, i would strongly suggest evaluating other machines.

5 out of 5 eggsGreatness

Pros: One of the best laptops (under $2k) i have ever owned. Runs Battlefield 3 like butter. Can't wait for Skyrim to unleash on this beast. For laptop speakers, it has the best sound I've heard in a laptop. Ran Battlefield 3, WoW, Amnesia and Dirt 3 all at the same time without hiccups. laptop is excellent for streaming your gaming display to Justin TV or any of the other services.

Steelseries Keyboard is nice but true gamers will have their own keyboard/mouse attached via USB.

Overall, best computer i have ever owned.

Cons: Not really a con since the laptop is a beast and it is only to be expected, but it is on the heavier side.

Also, would have been nice if there were a SSD option with this setup directly from MSI. Raid 0 is nice but not as great as it would have been with a SSD setup.
Lastly, please... no need for Bloatware, MSI. Upon first startup, it seems you have an option to not install certain programs, but you cant check/uncheck the programs, and ultimately it is installed.

Other Thoughts: This runs pretty much every game that I have purchased along with BF3 ( main reason i got it for) and Skyrim is waiting to be conquered. BEAST.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good laptop

Pros: This computer is very fast and preforms well when I am gaming or doing level design in UDK. The speaker do sound good, even for a laptop. The extra ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports are a plus. The keyboard has little to no flex and the keys are very responsive. The ability to alter lights on the keyboard is a very fun feature that can change the look of the board and impress your friends if the raw specs fail to do so. The 17.3" display looks good in full 1080 running some of my Blu-Rays, though I have not had a chance to use the burner yet.

Cons: There is some bloatware the I had to remove, but it was only minor. The track pad is a little small for my taste, but lets be honest this laptop will probably have a mouse wired to it for the majority of its life.

Other Thoughts: It is a heaver piece of hardware, but I knew that going into the purchase. Overall it is a very fast computer and seems to be very well built. The addition of the steel series keyboard is a very nice touch. I was concerned moving from Asus to MSI but after receiving my computer my worries vanished.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat BUT...

Pros: Great everything, except (see cons)

Cons: Sentelic Touchpad is complete junk. Sorry, but it is bad enough to ruin the whole experience. I've been a software developer for over 15 years, and I have spent most of that time using laptops, all day, everyday. This touchpad is the worst one I have ever used. If they came out with an updated driver to allow vertical scroll by moving the finger up and down the right edge, that might be enough to change my rating to 5 eggs, but it gets a 2 because the touchpad means I have to re-learn how to use a laptop after all these years of experience. Send me a touchpad driver with a fix and I'll change this to a 5 in a heartbeat.

Other Thoughts: This thing is a monster. If not for the touchpad, I would be an MSI convert. The Sentelic touchpad has ruined this otherwise awesome machine. Sadly, I just assumed all touchpads worked just about the same. I now know better and will check this in the future.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Was great for half a day.

Cons: After about 6 hours of use a one hard drive failed.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing performance and quality construction

Pros: GTX-570M GPU, I7 2670QM, 16GB of ram is like taking the performance of 4 my older Toshiba Satellite P105 and combining them into 1 laptop.
Quality Construction
Vivid screen for a matte finish
Amazing sound for a laptop
Steelseries keyboard
Quiet fans until needed with the TDE feature.
Light weight for size.
Lots of storage and Blu-Ray burner built in.

Cons: Raid-0 setup performs surprising slow but it is faster than just a single standard hard drive.

I broke the raid array and installed a Crucial M4 128GB for OS and kept the other 750GB WD drive for storage, still much more storage than my older 200GB 7200rpm drive in my toshiba.

Other Thoughts: I actually don't game much anymore but I do travel often and program from the same laptop so I went looking for the best performance to cost ratio I could find with a 17"+ screen. I had ordered a Dell XPS-17 but due to problems with shipping timings I cancelled that order and went with the MSI and so far I am extremely happy with the choice. The unit has taken everything I have thrown at it so far and since the install of the SSD has been even better. I haven't noticed any flex of keyboard or any of the other problems which were related to previous models with the steelseries keyboard.

5 out of 5 eggsGT780DXR-200US

Pros: I love this machine. I can run Battlefield Bad Company with high settings and it eats it up with no problem. In fact every game I have I now run without having compromise.

I have not had any keyboard issues and without any optimizing or fine tuning I get a PC mark 7 score of 3097 PC Marks and a 3D Mark 11 score of P2553. With all the features, this laptop is defiantly a good buy :)

Cons: The only con I can think of so far, I had to wait a few days to get it, but life is good now lol

Other Thoughts: Thank you MSI, I love ASUS, but you win with me on this one :)
