3 out of 5 eggsNice product, one startling problem.

Pros: This laptop served me very well for the time I had with it. I never had any major problem with running any programs or accessing websites.

It wasn't lightweight, but for a desktop replacement it was more then enough.

Cons: The only major problems I had with this product was actually very severe. I honestly do not know what the issue was, but the laptop had a problem with charging and I sent it in to the company.

It was still under warranty and I got it fixed.

More recently, I had more problems with the charging socket once again and was very nearly injured in the process. The laptop's cord caught fire and I quickly yanked it out and jumped out of my chair. The laptop hit the floor and the cord was completely ruined.

Other Thoughts: Other then those two major issues, I really did love this laptop and even reflect that in my score. I do not know why I had the problems I did with the charger port, but I had a cooling mat and did all i could to take care of the laptop.

I would send it in to get it repaired, but I'm afraid that I just don't have the money to do that. The holiday's are bearing down and I just can't afford even shipping the laptop to the company, much less pay to have it fixed. Because of the small fire, I'm afraid it's in fairly bad shape after it hit the floor.

4 out of 5 eggsGaming Beast

Pros: This thing handles everything you throw at it. Runs fast, simple overclocking, runs cool, amazing display. It runs BF3 on ultra with no issues. Read the specs, they speak for themselves.

Cons: No backlit keyboard, but I was aware of this.

Other Thoughts: I run a dual monitor setup with a 26" Razor LED Vizio with an external Logitech G15 keyboard and Razer Naga mouse. I can't really speak for the keyboard or touchpad because I rarely use them, but I hate all touchpads in general with a passion. I also have a wireless Razer mobile mouse for on-the-go situations, so I will never touch the touchpad.

Anyway, this came with 12GB ram and is advertised as upgrade-able. I purchased a 4GB stick of RAM from newegg, like always, to upgrade to 16GB because it was cheap, and heck, why not? But when I went to install the RAM I noticed I couldn't take off the cover because there was a sticker that said warranty void if tampered with. Hmmm..so I went to the MSI website and submitted a tech support issue and was told I could remove it and install the RAM without losing the warranty as long as nothing was damaged in the process. I received this reply in about 5 minutes, so MSI support is great!

5 out of 5 eggsF****** Awesome Laptop

Pros: Great specifications, great performance, great warranty, quality MSI product.

Laptop flies; a true desktop replacement. Form factor and design, imo, are nice. Arguments over keyboard flex are overly inaccurate. Slight keyboard flex, but expected w/ a laptop. If you slam your keys, you probably will notice it.

Sound is great, graphics are great. Raid 0 boot times average about 47 seconds. Swapped an SSD and I am getting average of 17 second boot times.

My windows rating w/ the SSD is 7.4, which is amazing for a laptop.

If you quantify performance/$ base, this really hits the sweet spot.

Complaints about the mouse pad are true, ONLY, if you decide to use a finger other than your pointer (strange, I know). If you use your pointer finger, it seems to be accurate and responsive.

Playing SWTOR on max settings with an average of 50 FPS.

This laptop with Turbo Mode runs equivalent to a 560 TI.

Great value imo.

Cons: No caps lock indicator on keyboard (big deal!). MSI put in a software fix available on their drivers web site that notifies you when the capslock button has been pressed.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a laptop that is up-gradable, that will last you a good while. A laptop that will hit the sweet spot of value vs money vs shelf life; this is the sweet spot as of this date (1/29/12).

1 out of 5 eggsNon existant technical support

Pros: Works well at times.

Cons: I am writing this review on the GT600 series in general. I have had a GT680R for almost a year now. It has been RMA'd twice now for the same issue. Both times it would stop charging unless you actually were pulling down on the power cord where it plugged into the back of the laptop. I just recieved my laptop back from its second RMA yesterday. It was reset to factory defaults with one issue. Before I sent it back it had a max resolution of 1920x1080. Now the max resolution it lists is 1366 x 768. I have updated all drivers and it still tells me when I try to set the resolution any higher that it is not supported by my monitor. I tried calling tech support and sat on hold for about 5 minutes when I was dumped into an answering machine and told to leave a message. So I sent an email to tech support, about 4 hours later the only response is a new RMA! Not a single person interested in trying to help me. But yet again asking me to pay to ship my laptop back.

Other Thoughts: Find a company that cares about customer support.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than expected

Pros: Was looking to replace an aging Asus G2 series that was struggling on modern games. After looking at several options, the MSI came in at the right price for a 15.6" screen with the 570m vid chip. Having owned it for a couple of weeks now, a few thoughts:

Looks - lots of talk on reviews about the plastic construction and neon lights. In person it's not that flashing and with the lights off and unnecessary brand stickers removed it's a nice looking machine. The shiny plastic is a fingerprint magnet, but wipe it off and your fine.

Speed wise this is a great little system. Can handle Skyrim, SWTOR, SR3 without a hiccup. Glossy screen is excellent with bright, vibrant colors and excellent palette reproduction once calibrated.

Sound system is surprisingly good for a notebook as well, though don't expect killer bass from the "sub-woofer."

All in all a great gaming laptop if you can get it on a sale.

Cons: Keyboard does have a moderate amount of flex. I don't notice it much, but I'm a light typer. If you pound hard on the keys, get over stimulated with gaming, then you might notice it more. Also has chiclet keys, which some consider a con but they are fairly responsive.

The touchpad sucks - disable it and get a mouse. If you're buying a gaming laptop, you'll do this anyway.

1TB storage is 2 500Gb in Raid 0. Nice for speed, but one drive goes and you lose everything.

Unnecessary bloatware, but not as bad as some other manufactures. Still worth stripping everything, getting rid of the raid 0 and doing a fresh install.

biggest con - NO Win7 install disc. Just option for recovery partition or making recovery discs. If my system goes bad I don't want to reimage with all the original bloat. System makers, start putting a basic install disc back. We purchased a license for the OS, please start including the disc to install it without all your unnecessary bloat.

Other Thoughts: Probably the easiest to access/upgrade notebook I've owned. HDDs, GPU, CPU easily accessable. After receiving I pulled one of the HDD, installed an SSD - this went flawlessly, just remember to disable fhe raid first. Other 500GB HDD went into an external housing for use as backup and boot drive image storage.

Also pulled the heatsinks, replaced the OEM Thermal paste (which way too much was applied), lapped the copper contacts of the heatpipes and properly applied Artic Silver 5. Now system runs around 36-38c with regular use and only hits 60c gaming with the fan barely running.

Will be very easy down the road to pop in a new GPU and CPU as the system ages.

All in all a very nice 15.6" gaming notebook in a nice looking case, well powered components and easily designed for future upgrades.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best laptop you will ever use!

Pros: Super Fast
Good Sound
Tons of Memory
Sleek Design
Great Brand (Ive used MSI before and they have excellent customer service)

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Don't be fooled into thinking Alienware is your only option for great quality laptops!

For the person(s) that have/will post a negative review for a DOA --- stuff happens and you shouldn't trash the product because of it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat machine, worth the price

Pros: Very powerful. I didn't have any of the problems a few people have mentioned (drivers, keyboard stick and flex...). Everything has been great so far. Been playing Skyrim and a few other games this week and it runs like a dream. Good weight as well.

Cons: None so far.

4 out of 5 eggsQuick Overview

Pros: Pros:
-Fast
-Turbo Option
-Max fan button
-Disable windows button option; mitigates the accidental hit of this button.
-Sound quality
-built in 5.1 audio out
-led display

Cons: Cons:
-Minor flexing on both keyboard and display
-there is no latch to secure screen to laptop body when closed
-The GTX 570M did not have drivers on Nvidia's page when I got this so playing the newest games was difficult. But they have now fixed this problem.
-Max fan sounds like a plane taking off
-You void your warranty if you want to put an SSD into it.
-for some reason my "D" key is sticking on the laptop keyboard.

Other Thoughts: Good laptop, will probably last a good long time. Video card is upgradeable and so is the processor.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nicely build machine

Pros: Fast. very well assembled. Fast. Very easy to get to most important components. Fast. Looks much better in person. Fast. Decent sound, for a laptop. Did I mention this thing was fast?

Cons: There is a moderate amount of flex if mishandled. Includes both chassis and monitor. touch bar also has a lot of downward flex, not enough support. Keyboard does have flex, not HORRIBLE. . I've seen worse. Comes standard with Raid0, which is a con if you're intending to install an SSD and don't realize you have to hit ctrl-I at boot beforehand and un-raid the drives [which causes all sorts of fun issues with drive recognition until you finally figure this out: live and learn I guess :)

Touchpad is a Sentelic, not synaptics. If you're buying this to game at all, you'll have your own mouse. if you're not, better think about getting one anyway. it's not "horrible", but even during this review it randomly jumps the cursor 1 or 2 lines up so that I'm typing into my last sentence.

Other Thoughts: Overall very well built. Construction is very sold in terms of pieces fitting together. Fit and finish is perfect. picking it up one handed, or closing the lid from only one side will produce a moderate amount of flex, but that's to be expected, with this much plastic. Insanely easy to repaste CPU/GPU if you're into DIY.

Replaced a G73-JH with this as I needed something SLIGHTLY more portable to make it through airport security. Added OCZ vertex III [firmware 2.15] and aside from the raid. . fiasco, have had no problems with it. Turbo button provides a very noticable gain. Max fan button MEANS Max fan. Max fan is loud. in other news, water is wet. Good set of headphones will rectify this, or turn up the speakers. Max fan button is not ABSOLUTELY necessary. Unit will scale fan with temps until reaching max on it's own. Nice to have a manual "oh shoot" button tho. This + SSD =epic win performance, if you can handle the overly glossy plastic [vinyl covers: google!

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: This laptop looks fantastic on paper--i7 2.2ghz quad core, GTX 570 graphics card, 12gb ram, dual hard drives... and it is not that heavy at 7.7lbs.

Cons: The LED didn't even flicker when booted up--DOA.
I can also confirm that the keyboard is a little loose on the right side and there is a bit more plastic in the case than I'd like. Given that it was DOA, I'd say the build quality was lacking.

Other Thoughts: I called MSI technical support, aside from the voice recording sounding like "MSR" technical support, they were really helpful. They suggested sending it back to New Egg and getting a replacement. I ordered this rush/overnight at the last minute before traveling out of town--so no way to get a laptop for my trip.
