1 out of 5 eggsnvlddmkm.sys blue screen all the time.

Pros: if i dont see blue screen, there could be some pros.

Cons: nvlddmkm.sys blue screen issue. i bought this laptop last year November and i see blue screen at least once a day until now.

Other Thoughts: Please choose ur laptop wisely and dont be a dumb like me. ill buy no more MSI laptops as they are putting awful graphic cards on their products.

4 out of 5 eggsNot too bad , for a perfectionist.

Pros: I am a perfectionist and after owning this product for a few months I decided to write a review. Alot of this review likely applies to similar MSI models. (Although this product is discontinued, hopefully my voice is still heard)

- Good touchpad, no problems for me.
- Backlit keys with ware-resistant coating.
- Good screen viewing angles.
- Easy access to turbo, fan, and lights.
- Good sound system.

Cons: Being as im a picky guy and I expect the best out of everything, ill just toss down some true cons from this point of view.

- (#1 Con) The inner plastic that hugs the keyboard is not scratch resistant and is also heat sensitive. I am not sure why this material was used at all, within a few weeks, or months.. it will contain a million scratches, there's nothing you can do about it, its inevitable.

- (#2 Con) You know how when you touch or hold something, you can tell its built tough.. Well this laptop is more on the weak end. The screen, frames, and resting areas can bend. Its not solid like a rock, particularly the screen frame.

- Bevels.. Anywhere you have a bevel on a surface it is prone to collecting dust and grime. Where you can eliminate a bevel, you increase the quality of the product. Most crucial points are speakers, screen, and touchpad locations.

- The toggle wifi is a sensitive touch button and should be changed to a side-switch instead. Accidentally touching this button is a probability.

- No light or indicator to determine when your cam is on or off.

- Only 1 SD slot... SD slots are often used as external drives so, the ability to have a couple is very handy.

- Laptop frame size is 1 inch larger than necessary. There is too much dead space around the laptop components. particularly around the screen.. Which can also be made balanced with the keyboard format.

Other Thoughts: Well, if you had a picky tech consumer like me on your team, you would certainly build better quality products. The computer overall is fine, but it lacks in the reliability zone. I would recommend hiring a picky consumer to give you feedback on how to make appealing cosmetic and structurally sound product. Because that's pretty much all this needs... Some things just shouldn't have been overlooked, such as the scratch prone plastic frame and excessive use of sharp bevels.

Believe me when I say this, the cons are the difference between making millions or billions. Something to look into..

4 out of 5 eggsOwned for 4 months now

Pros: Screen is quite bright, no glare even when in sunlight, Runs Skyrim perfectly with high to ultra settings, keyboard works well when not sticking (not having missing keystrokes that other reviews mention) (Also lights are pretty)

Cons: Simply put the keyboard keys occasionally "stick" and have had to remove key and basically fiddle with it until stops. Additionally touchpad is essentially unusable, other reviews mention this and you should really get a mouse.

Other Thoughts: touchpad was a known con when I ordered it, and honestly if you are carrying this laptop you won't notice the weight of a mouse (it's kinda heavy)

4 out of 5 eggsVery good overall

Pros: As a high end desktop replacement laptop that doubles as a solid gaming machine this does everything I bought it for with (almost) no problems, and does it all well (almost.)

Cons: As others have reported, the keyboard layout is a bit odd and takes some getting used to, especially if you are used to a full size keyboard.
Also as some have reported, (and the real reason it lost a rating point,) while it isn't a problem with most applications, sometimes, (particluarly in some IM/chat apps,) the keyboard doesn's seem to pick up keystorkes very well. Sometimes every third or fourth keystroke is missed unless you stop and hold the key down, pressing very hard, for nearly a second. This leads to some frustrating editing. I really didn't notice it for most of whatI do, including normal text editing, email, etc, but in some applications the keyboard borders on unuable. Lucky for me I don't use IM much. This is obviously more of an application or driver issue than a hardward thing, but I don't have problems with the same apps on other computers.

3 out of 5 eggsGood all around gaming laptop

Pros: Bang for the buck!
Good all around gaming laptop.
Able to handle all 2011 games on highest settings.
Its ability to remain somewhat cool.

Cons: The touch panel does not always work...
Eject button does not work at on the touch panel.
DVD player does not always work. (will not recognize that there is a disc in the tray)
Power supply gets EXTREMELY HOT during gaming sessions.
Keyboard feels flimsy and is hard to type on.

Other Thoughts: Dispite the DVD troubles... I am still able to play games on it at high settings. Good all around laptop.
New games you will find that you need to turn the setting down a hair.

Reason for 3 eggs: Touch panel does not work and DVD player does not always work either...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

Pros: Pretty much knew what I was getting when I was shopping around for a Gaming Laptop. This laptop had pretty much what I wanted. Plays almost every game on ultra settings.

Cons: 1 dead pixel in the lower right of the screen. Doesn't seem to bother me much as it only shows up in pure black screen. I read the warranty before I bought it, so I new that was a chance that I could get a dead pixel. Any LCD screen can have a dead pixel, you just hope you don't get one. :)

Other Thoughts: Installed a 256 Gigabit SSD and cloned the OS onto it from the HDD. As with SSD's, The boot time is really fast now. Note: if you plan to install a second HDD (or SSD), Make sure to get a mounting bracket for it. Since I am a machinist by trade, I was able to make a replica from scratch.

Overall, MSI has done a good job offering this laptop for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in class

Pros: Really fast!! Great specs for the price. I couldn't find a better deal for this kind of horsepower. Beautiful display, runs great on Civ 5 which is the only game I've played on it. Price at time of purchase $1,399

Cons: Fans crank up when under load which can be pretty loud.

Larger than a normal 17" laptop so if your buying a case be sure to check the size.

Other Thoughts: I replaced the hard drive with a SSD and it's naturally faster. I've read conflicting info on whether or not I've voided the warranty or not. Emailed MSI requesting an actual copy of Win7 but they didn't respond so I'm not hopeful if I ever had an issue that required customer support so beware. I find good customer support not to be the norm with most products so rarely do I factor this into the equation.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat, if you don't need a warranty

Pros: Backlit keyboard is freaking awesome, screen quality is amazing, ports are layed out well and functionally. CPU, GPU and RAM are all up there, and while I've only tested Guild Wars 2 so far, it plays on High settings with an average of 64 FPS, so I'm super happy with that!

Cons: The warranty if needed, is absolutely worthless. The screen came with a dead pixel (bright) and they are telling me they won't do anything about it unless it has 7. They then claim "it's an industry standard". If that's the case then why did all of my previous laptops have warranties that were 1 bright, or 5 dark pixels for replacement? Whatever.

The keyboard layout is leaving a LOT to be desired. Why are there two \| keys? There isn't a context menu key if you use it. The 0 key on the numpad is almost 1/2 normal size, and thus requires you to completely move your thumb underneath your hand while using the 10key. The typing keys feel somehow shifted to me, and that's taking getting used to, but by far the worst is the Home/PgUp and End/PgDn disaster. To save space they have combined those 4 keys into 2, and you are required to use the FN+PgUp for Home, and FN+PgDn for End. This is most of the reason for dropping the two eggs. The keyboard layout was designed by a moron. If you do any type of word processing, or data entry, this is NOT the computer for you, sadly. According to their tech-support "there is nothing you can do about the keys except to use the function combination." Well that's not entirely true, I can either return the computer to newegg, or install a key-mapping program. Will do the second, but am drastically considering the first option.

Other Thoughts: When I asked about the warranty sticker over the HDD bay plate, mentioning that because this is a work computer, and I must have the second HDD installed for the additional space needed while working, the tech support response was "That sticker doesn't apply in the US. You can break the sticker, and upgrade whatever you need to, without breaking the warranty, as long as you don't break something while doing so. Breaking anything would void the warranty." While it's not so much that I don't trust him, but I'm going to call back from a land line and record the conversation so I have documentation of it before I actually install that drive. Just in case.

It also came with a LOT of bloatware. There were several reviews that stated it didn't come with a lot of junk, but it does. When I first booted, it had 68 programs installed. I've spent the time trying to get it narrowed down, but have decided against it. I will be upgrading from the Home Premium to Professional, so I'm just going to wipe the HDD and start fresh. They did send a driver disk, but like evverybody have chosen to force you to burn your own install DVD's, which aren't worth burning because it takes 3 discs, and thus will install all of the bloatware right back onto the computer. There was an option for not installing the Magix sweet of programs, but that's only 5 of the 68 programs..

The gyst of this, is that I'm not sure I would recommend this or buy another. I gave MSI a chance after massive issues with my Dell XPS17 L702X, (owned it 7 months, 2 replacement computers, 3x in their shop, 5 technicians to my house, and they still couldn't fix the heat issue. Worst fan/heat sink design ever. And that's not counting the issues with the touch screen that was eventually just replaced with a higher quality non-touch because they couldn't fix that either.) So far I love the laptop itself, except for the huge issue with the keyboard layout, but the lack-luster response from their Tech support, and the feeling that I'm going to get ripped off regarding the warranty if I install my second drive have left a very nasty aftertaste from the purchase.

It did come with the Everki bag which I'm surprised is an excellent bag! Holds the laptop extremely well (except the power brick, that's an inconvenience no matter what..) as well as my two full size WD externals, all of my paperwork, notepads and still has room for more!

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsUnexpected Performance

Pros: I got this laptop to replace my laptop and my desktop computer and it did a great job of replacing both. I wanted to be able to be writing a paper for school and then turn around and play high demanding games on it. The keyboard is great, I saw many bad reviews about the keyboard about people hitting keys and not responding. They must have fixed this issue because I am in love with this keyboard, and I'm not a loud typer. The screen is plenty bright and displays things wonderfully. Yes the viewing angles aren't the best but the whole point of a laptop is for you not everyone else. I was completely blown away by the graphics, I knew i was buying one of the best NVIDIA mobile graphics cards but the frames per second were way past what I expected in a laptop. Finally a wonderful feature is the speaker. Many speakers in laptops these days sound like the music is being played through a tin can, not this one. These things are nice and loud.

Cons: The weight and size. I should realize that this is going to be the way it is, especially with what is under the hood.

Other Thoughts: The only other small thing I have is my backlit keyboard. Right now I have it all white and with the breathing effect. the right Alt Gr and Right Ctrl key are green. When displaying any bright color its green. Probably missing the blue in RGB or somthing. This isn't enough for me to return it for a new one though.

5 out of 5 eggsJust a Beast.

Pros: Gaming performance is off the scale. I'm getting over 50 fps in GW2, without using the Turbo function. The 675M is a beast.

The audio is quite good for a laptop. I was pleasantly surprised that the fidelity was decent.

The LED screen is very bright and the colors pop. The viewing angels are exceptional compared to a TN panel.

I've seen complaints about the keyboard, but I haven't had any issues. I have large hands and I've been able to speed type without any issues.

Truly, if you're looking for a top of the line desktop, without spending well over $2K, this will do the job.

Cons: The additional manual cooling fan is loud. Doesn't bother me, but it could be a con for some folks.

If you're looking for a light laptop, this ain't it. Also, the overall dimensions are close to max size for some 17" bags.

While the audio is very good, the max volume could be a little bit louder.
