5 out of 5 eggsMSI GX60- A great investment for the gamer on a budget

Pros: Great price
Fast GPU
Nice monitor
Great cooling
upgradeable

Cons: Windows 8
APU causes some issues
(No biggie) no backlit keyboard
No ssd

Other Thoughts: Works great with the latest beta drivers from AMD. Gets good performance out of the games i play. I'd recommend to anyone interested in this AMD dream machine to wait for the upgraded gx60 (which was posted on newegg a day after I ordered mine >.>) it has a upgraded APU that hopefully will resolve some issues (bottlenecks, slowdowns). But if you like the price and can't wait there's no going wrong with this laptop

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for the price

Pros: This laptop is perfect for the price, runs everything maxed with fee exceptions sky rim will run at 60 fps on ultra with shadows turned to medium and distant object detail on med, however after I installed an ssd and win 7 it will play on ultra with 60 fps average maxed

Cons: WINDOWS 8 IS TRASH..INSTALL WINDOWS 7 AND AN SSD ASAP.
A10 4600m is on par with high end i3 or low end i5 but an ssd helps it a lot, still for the price I can't complain,or drop an egg for that matter.

Other Thoughts: Best GAMING ONLY laptop for the money.

4 out of 5 eggsShame this has come out after I quit gaming...

Pros: All AMD. Let's face it, this is a fanboi box.

It's quick for everyday productivity tasks.

Runs engineering applications rather well considering the price I paid open box.

Better battery life than is stated. 7 hours is easy to get around the house with the 7970m off.

The keyboard is probably the best I chiclet I have ever placed my hands on. There is excellent key rebound.

The screen truly is as good as everyone here is raving. I own some quality IPS monitors, and this may be better.

Using external speakers the sound quality is excellent.

Cons: It looks horribly unprofessional.

Plastic abounds --and it's poor quality bubble plastic. I'm worried about durability to be quite frank.

The built in speakers are not as bad as some machines I have seen, but they aren't on par with most newer multimedia PCs.

Blu Ray playback is not working, due to a bug in the rather dated included software which requires reinstalling with a disc which I do not have (PowerDVD 10 as opposed to 11 or 12).

There is no way into the machine without voiding the warranty. Even HP or Apple will allow you to upgrade RAM and the secondary storage...

Other Thoughts: Even though I quit gaming I saw this sucker for less than a grand here on the egg as an open box model. I just knew I'd never let myself live it down if I didn't buy it. I've wanted a machine like this ever since Alienware dropped their AMD gaming notebooks, and I figure I can get laughed at up at the office if that's what it takes to have a machine with the guts I want...

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad at all

Pros: - The weight, somehow I was anticipating this would be as if I was hauling around a desktop replacement. Not what I expected, it was rather light and is actually lighter than my Macbook Pro 15"

- Dedicated 7970 graphics...

- The sound, it doesn't have the same sound setup as the other MSI models and wasn't flaunted in the features but the sound is still by far very impressive.

- The keyboard, not bad--feels really sturdy and doesn't flex under heavy handed usage.

- The ports, generous variety of ports for your peripheral needs.

Cons: The following Cons aren't entirely deal breakers for me:

- Windows 8, I'm slowly getting used to it but there are so many things I want it to not do. It tries too hard to do too many things that one might want personal control over. It offers many nifty features but I was never a heavy Microsoft end-user other than their operating systems. Windows 8 tries too hard to force feed me all their features, perhaps I just need more time with it but I can't help but to feel suffocated. In the end, 95% of the extra features go to waste.

- Dedicated 7970 graphics, I just wished it had easier management and feedback on what it's actually doing. I heard they were going to roll out with better drivers to alleviate this issue.

- A10 processor, this is comparable to Intel's i5--it will bottleneck your gaming needs but I assure you it's not as bad as you think.

- 5200rpm hdd, processor aside it will bottleneck your gaming pleasures. Expect to replace this ASAP, while you're at it--Windows 7 as well.

Other Thoughts: - Swappable graphics, the on board 7660 seems to be the default card that is automatically detected when playing games. When assigning a game to the 7970 it seems to work if it's not through a launcher. Take League of Legends as an example, you're assigning the 7970 to the launcher and not the actual game. I tried to attach the direct Riot launcher to it but to no avail it still utilizes the 7660. The way you know you're using the high performance modes is when the power button itself is white lit otherwise it's orange.

- Non-lit keyboard, if you Have to--You can easily buy the lit keyboard and install it yourself. It will void your warranty if you break the sticker seal on the one and last screw that you will allow access to the goodies.

- The new upcoming updates to the mx60 drivers show promise and both the GPU and the CPU can be upgraded whenever AMD decides to roll out the new A series processors. *fingers crossed*

- Finally, understand this is a budget rig and should be treated as such. I'm a gamer but I also do graphics work, from 3D modeling to light rendering for post process work. It does the job, I cannot complain but when working on assets that are over 15 million polys it starts to lag a bit.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: a capable processor matched with a fantastic graphics chip. Capable of handling the heat that those components create, which is the downfall of most big box laptops.

Cons: The processor does get overpowered sometimes. It is physically a quad core, but due to some in-built limitations in functions similar to a dual core with hyperthreading. Also I am not a huge fan of Windows 8, but it doesnt hinder the laptop, so no eggs off.

Other Thoughts: What keeps this rig in the 5 egg category is price. Bluray, quad core, 8gb RAM, and a 7970M with a large HD - for only $1200. Anything elso that compares to this machine cost $300+ more.

4 out of 5 eggsMsi Gx60

Pros: This computer has one of the best graphic cards in the world. It has a nice 15.6" 1920x1080 screen, and great cooling system. Slotted gpu, cpu, means an entirely upgrade able laptop so that it will last you along time as long as you treat it well.

Cons: The biggest con is the a10-4600m processor. That being said, you can always buy a intel i7 in a few years and it will be almost like a new laptop because the gpu far surpasses the cpu

Other Thoughts: This computer is very large and heavy for a 15.6 due to the air cooling system. I viewed this as a pro when buying it but others may not. Also windows 8 is hard to learn but it does have some advantages. I would still probably prefer windows 7.

4 out of 5 eggsMust-Get (Updated)

Pros: I've just got this marvelous concoction of tecnology this morning, and my first time playing Crysis 3 (was included with the laptop at my time of purchase) nearly made me weep.
-Spectacular Graphics
AMD!!!!!!! Hoorah!
Radeon 7970m - Most powerful AMD graphics (laptop graphics, that is) known to man.
The computer itself looks fairly stylish. I find its edges and lines to be very appealing to the eyes.
So far it has managed to keep fairly cool.

Cons: -Windows 8 (Only reason why it's lost an egg) - It's incredibly disappointing that this didn't come with Windows 7 Home Premium x64
-It takes FOUR HOURS to install updates for Windows 8, what the hell was microsoft thinking making this operating system? "Our customers don't care about time management and productivity, they'd rather have their Xbox and PC look similar than save 4 hours of their time".

-Keyboard is not Back-lit (not a big deal really)
-Keyboard's keystrokes are often not recorded - Probably has something to do with me typing at 80WPM, though my TactX CL handles my speed beautifully. - Have to constantly go back and fix typos :(
-Does not come included with an AC/DC converter for the car.
-A10 4600m is a bottleneck (yes you've heard it before) - I'm just hoping there will some day be a feasible opportunity to purchase an upgraded version- Though never have I seen a mobile CPU be sold to consumers.

Windows key is on the right side of the keyboard instead of the left - will definitely take some getting used to.

Other Thoughts: Seeing as I'm a die-hard AMD fan, I simply could not resist buying this laptop.

MSI - You've got a new fan! I'd do practically anything for you.

I was considering the G75VW-DH73-3D, though at nearly double the price, and the fact that it's intel and having done many hours of researching, I decided to go with this baby.
If you are a fan of AMD, and powerful computers, I would advise you to get this laptop.

I seriously have to spend another $80 to get Windows 7 x64 for this laptop because Windows 8 is unbearably slow and terrible.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Very good for the price -got it with valentines discount for 1,099. Overall build seems very quality and plays games very well. Able to play Crysis 3 decent enough to be very enjoyable. Also great keyboard imo.

Cons: Idk really because you have to keep in mind this is a budget type of system. I don't know how get into bios? Anyone knows?

Other Thoughts: Oh yeah, the screen is great too -best ive ever had on a laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Performance per dollar

Pros: LED screen resolution and the sound coming from its 2.1 speaker setup is very impressive. AMD 7970m has quite a bit of muscle. Cooling system is very strong. Well built machine, feels solid. Price!

Cons: Windows 8. Initially updates constantly at first and the restarts are painfully long. Once the OS' dust settles down, everything is better.
While I'm happy AMD is updating the VGA drivers, I'm disappointed about the inability to adjust brightness (stays about 80% brightness) once you update from the OEM drivers. This is not an isolated case, it affects many users....AMD hello!

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with this purchase. The 7970m cuts through modern games like NFS:MW, Farcry 3, etc perfectly. The AMD APU is pound for pound slower than a Core i5/i7 but you won't feel the difference in everyday tasks or 99% of games. It is a gaming laptop first and foremost, so its performance is great when tasked with what it is built to do...gaming. If you want a dedicated video editing/decoding/rendering machine, this is not a laptop for you. But if you want a good solid gaming machine that can play just about everything on max eye candy and not break the bank, the GX60 is the one!
