4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding and Powerful

Pros: + It has a button to engage the fan to keep the system cooler while playing game or doing intense work.

+It has GREAT built in speakers

+The layout of the ports on the back and sides is incredibly smart

+The power plug is bent so it does'nt stick straight out

+It has a number pad

Cons: -Biggest complaint has to be the brightness button not working. I cant change the brightness no matter what I do. I even re-installed the drivers for them and they still didnt work.

-When I plug headphones into the headphone port I hear a electronic echoes like sound. I don't know if its the port the the fact I have bad headphones but either way its what I hear.

-It doesn't have a baclit keyboard being a gaming computer and all.

-It isn't fully made of metal

Other Thoughts: I love it despite that its not metal or has keyboard.

5 out of 5 eggsgaming beast

Pros: good screen resolution
nice screen
awesome video card - I mean awesome!
decent processor
nice case, nice look
cooling vents on back

Cons: processor not up to par with video card - but for the price of the whole machine, i have a hard time complaining...

Other Thoughts: the processor and video card are both plugged into mother board - meaning both potentially upgradeable! nice.

although the video card is not just on a thermal pad, the thermal compound is mediocre. But that's usual for new machines. I replaced it with IC7 diamond compound. Definitely worth the switch!

So with the IC7 diamond compound, I also overclock the video card by running MSI Afterburner, which is free to download. Doing this, this thing runs Tomb Raider 2013 in Ultra (not just HIGH, but ULTRA settings) at 47 FPS! The ULTIMATE settings which is really just extra graphics for her hair is at about 35FPS. Still VERY impressive for this machine.

If you are a big Skyrim fan like me, you should know that Tomb Raider 2013 is more demanding: it runs Skyrim max settings beautifully. I noticed a tiny pause as I traveled to new sections of the world/location, I'm assuming it's "loading" the new section. I'm sure this could be handled by some tweaks.

I'm still fiddling around with the processor as it doesn't run general tasks on Windows 8 (that machine comes with) as fancy as the graphics card runs games. Funny, because it is an AMD 4 core processor that self-overclocks as high as 2.87 that I've seen on Task Manager. Maybe just some tweaking would satisfy my needs...

1 out of 5 eggsUpdated review

Pros: Great cooling
Great GPU

Cons: Windows 8
CPU effects performance
Died within a month
At first I really enjoyed this laptop but one day I was playing civilization V when all of a sudden the screen went black and then it shut off. Seeing as I had it plugged in it wasn't the battery that was the problem. Puzzled by this I also knew it was not the temps since I was running afterburner to monitor my temps which were at 68 c right before it shutoff. I am displeased with this product and I am hoping best buy will allow me a refund even though I have the service plan I don't want to deal with this laptop.

Other Thoughts: >:(

4 out of 5 eggsExtremely Satisfied

Pros: Great gaming performance. I can easily say that it keeps up with my FX-4170/ 7850 gaming rig. I can play Just Cause 2 with all the settings on Very High with no lag what-so-ever in 1920x1080 where it would lag on my gaming rig.

It has an open slot for a SSD or extra HDD that is easy to get to (see other thoughts).

The computer stays relatively cool while gaming, even for a laptop (60C max without fan boost).

Switchable graphics in CCC is pretty easy to use. The center indicator light on the power button lets you know the graphics have switched from APU to GPU.

The keyboard is pretty solid and comfortable to use.
Bright backlit display, crisp.

Great battery life.

Cons: No backlit Keyboard.

The glossy plastic shell gets smudged easily.

I know a lot of people are saying Windows 8 is great, but I was having some issues loading games.

Brittle feeling plastic, I wouldn’t open this thing up for upgrades unless I had to. Be careful while transporting it in a bag (should not be exposed to anything hard and/ or with sharp edges).

Bulky design – it won’t fit in my old backpack’s laptop pocket because of the wedge design (fat back end compared to the front).

Other Thoughts: Contacted MSI and they will allow you to open up the computer to add an SSD in the extra slot without completely voiding the warranty, however you’re more likely to be the culprit if the computer does need some warranty service (future HDD problems). May be worth checking into with MSI support if you’re feeling cautious.

Make sure to rollback your AHCI driver if you’re experiencing bad performance with the AMD AHCI driver. This includes slow load times, hangs, etc.

Windows 7 will run extremely well on this machine. However, you will notice that you will have an unknown device in Device Manager after downgrading to W7 from W8. This is normal, as this is the wifi switch that turns the wifi on and off from the keyboard shortcut. You will not be able to find drivers for W7 and will have to go through network devices manually to disable the wifi radio yourself (I don’t mind this since I use wifi most of the time anyway).

5 out of 5 eggsMSI GX60- A great investment for the gamer on a budget

Pros: Great price
Fast GPU
Nice monitor
Great cooling

Cons: Windows 8
APU causes some issues
(No biggie) no backlit keyboard
No ssd

Other Thoughts: Works great with the latest beta drivers from AMD. Gets good performance out of the games i play. I'd recommend to anyone interested in this AMD dream machine to wait for the upgraded gx60 (which was posted on newegg a day after I ordered mine >.>) it has a upgraded APU that hopefully will resolve some issues (bottlenecks, slowdowns). But if you like the price and can't wait there's no going wrong with this laptop

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for the price

Pros: This laptop is perfect for the price, runs everything maxed with fee exceptions sky rim will run at 60 fps on ultra with shadows turned to medium and distant object detail on med, however after I installed an ssd and win 7 it will play on ultra with 60 fps average maxed

A10 4600m is on par with high end i3 or low end i5 but an ssd helps it a lot, still for the price I can't complain,or drop an egg for that matter.

Other Thoughts: Best GAMING ONLY laptop for the money.

4 out of 5 eggsShame this has come out after I quit gaming...

Pros: All AMD. Let's face it, this is a fanboi box.

It's quick for everyday productivity tasks.

Runs engineering applications rather well considering the price I paid open box.

Better battery life than is stated. 7 hours is easy to get around the house with the 7970m off.

The keyboard is probably the best I chiclet I have ever placed my hands on. There is excellent key rebound.

The screen truly is as good as everyone here is raving. I own some quality IPS monitors, and this may be better.

Using external speakers the sound quality is excellent.

Cons: It looks horribly unprofessional.

Plastic abounds --and it's poor quality bubble plastic. I'm worried about durability to be quite frank.

The built in speakers are not as bad as some machines I have seen, but they aren't on par with most newer multimedia PCs.

Blu Ray playback is not working, due to a bug in the rather dated included software which requires reinstalling with a disc which I do not have (PowerDVD 10 as opposed to 11 or 12).

There is no way into the machine without voiding the warranty. Even HP or Apple will allow you to upgrade RAM and the secondary storage...

Other Thoughts: Even though I quit gaming I saw this sucker for less than a grand here on the egg as an open box model. I just knew I'd never let myself live it down if I didn't buy it. I've wanted a machine like this ever since Alienware dropped their AMD gaming notebooks, and I figure I can get laughed at up at the office if that's what it takes to have a machine with the guts I want...

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad at all

Pros: - The weight, somehow I was anticipating this would be as if I was hauling around a desktop replacement. Not what I expected, it was rather light and is actually lighter than my Macbook Pro 15"

- Dedicated 7970 graphics...

- The sound, it doesn't have the same sound setup as the other MSI models and wasn't flaunted in the features but the sound is still by far very impressive.

- The keyboard, not bad--feels really sturdy and doesn't flex under heavy handed usage.

- The ports, generous variety of ports for your peripheral needs.

Cons: The following Cons aren't entirely deal breakers for me:

- Windows 8, I'm slowly getting used to it but there are so many things I want it to not do. It tries too hard to do too many things that one might want personal control over. It offers many nifty features but I was never a heavy Microsoft end-user other than their operating systems. Windows 8 tries too hard to force feed me all their features, perhaps I just need more time with it but I can't help but to feel suffocated. In the end, 95% of the extra features go to waste.

- Dedicated 7970 graphics, I just wished it had easier management and feedback on what it's actually doing. I heard they were going to roll out with better drivers to alleviate this issue.

- A10 processor, this is comparable to Intel's i5--it will bottleneck your gaming needs but I assure you it's not as bad as you think.

- 5200rpm hdd, processor aside it will bottleneck your gaming pleasures. Expect to replace this ASAP, while you're at it--Windows 7 as well.

Other Thoughts: - Swappable graphics, the on board 7660 seems to be the default card that is automatically detected when playing games. When assigning a game to the 7970 it seems to work if it's not through a launcher. Take League of Legends as an example, you're assigning the 7970 to the launcher and not the actual game. I tried to attach the direct Riot launcher to it but to no avail it still utilizes the 7660. The way you know you're using the high performance modes is when the power button itself is white lit otherwise it's orange.

- Non-lit keyboard, if you Have to--You can easily buy the lit keyboard and install it yourself. It will void your warranty if you break the sticker seal on the one and last screw that you will allow access to the goodies.

- The new upcoming updates to the mx60 drivers show promise and both the GPU and the CPU can be upgraded whenever AMD decides to roll out the new A series processors. *fingers crossed*

- Finally, understand this is a budget rig and should be treated as such. I'm a gamer but I also do graphics work, from 3D modeling to light rendering for post process work. It does the job, I cannot complain but when working on assets that are over 15 million polys it starts to lag a bit.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: a capable processor matched with a fantastic graphics chip. Capable of handling the heat that those components create, which is the downfall of most big box laptops.

Cons: The processor does get overpowered sometimes. It is physically a quad core, but due to some in-built limitations in functions similar to a dual core with hyperthreading. Also I am not a huge fan of Windows 8, but it doesnt hinder the laptop, so no eggs off.

Other Thoughts: What keeps this rig in the 5 egg category is price. Bluray, quad core, 8gb RAM, and a 7970M with a large HD - for only $1200. Anything elso that compares to this machine cost $300+ more.

4 out of 5 eggsMsi Gx60

Pros: This computer has one of the best graphic cards in the world. It has a nice 15.6" 1920x1080 screen, and great cooling system. Slotted gpu, cpu, means an entirely upgrade able laptop so that it will last you along time as long as you treat it well.

Cons: The biggest con is the a10-4600m processor. That being said, you can always buy a intel i7 in a few years and it will be almost like a new laptop because the gpu far surpasses the cpu

Other Thoughts: This computer is very large and heavy for a 15.6 due to the air cooling system. I viewed this as a pro when buying it but others may not. Also windows 8 is hard to learn but it does have some advantages. I would still probably prefer windows 7.
