This model CAN be upgraded. It has 2 SODIM RAM slots, but one is populated by the 8 gig stick it comes with. The max this system is stated to upgrade to is 16 gigs with 2 RAM sticks.

The RAM can be upgraded with any brand of DDR3 1333/1600MHz hardware.

Bonus: Also, a little known, seldom talked about feature in this laptop is that it's equipped with an mSATA slot to install an SSD. I equipped mine with a Samsung EVO 850 500Gig mSATA SSD, and it flies compared to what it did before. I even upgraded it with Windows 10(provisionally).

It is however strongly recommended to use the Samsung Migration software to migrate your current install of Windows over to the SSD, but first use the MSI BurnRecovery to make ISOs of the backup partition, then burn them to DVDs, or use an ISO merging utility to create a single large ISO of the recovery partition DVD ISOs and put them onto a bootable USB stick.

If for some reason MSI BurnRecovery fails, Backup your entire hard drive to an external hard drive, and just use the migration software anyway after that. But you'll need to go into the bios to change the boot drive to the SSD after migration cloning is complete, and make sure you have a Windows Installer disk or bootable USB stick version handy to fix the issue of the two windows systems boot drives being confused. Once done, then when running from the SSD migrated Windows, then you should be able to run the MSI BurnRecovery software successfully.

After that, it is recommended to wipe both drives clean of all partitions and reinstall Windows from the MSI BurnRecovery made ISO(s) onto the SSD.
