4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Ready to play in about 10 mins out of the box. Really enjoyed the keyboard comfortable while fun to look at. Would suggest to others who casually game but are looking to have a computer last.

Cons: Only Con has been Windows 8

3 out of 5 eggsTerribly balanced product.

Pros: Super powerful, top of the line mobile GPU. The 8970m is more power efficient and runs cooler than the GTX 780m, and believe it or not, is only slower by about 5%. And the 8970m can be found for almost half the price of a 780m. AMD is doing a good job at keeping nvidia on their toes when it comes to the mobile GPU market.

Cons: However... the A10 CPU... Oh why. I don't know who thought of the idea of putting a 2.5GHz AMD APU in a laptop with a 8970m, but they should be fired. That's like having a GTX 780 ti with a Pentium G dual core or a low end i3. In BF3, the 8970m gets about 90FPS on high settings with a i7 4700mq. With the A10, it gets only 35 FPS. That's more than 50% of GPU processing power put to waste because this slow, power sucking quad core can't keep up.

Other Thoughts: One thing AMD does need to work on is their mobile CPUs. They're useless in high end gaming laptops. And unless AMD finds a way to increase their IPC performance (instructions per clock), they're going to have a tough time stuffing in a 8 core 3GHz or more CPU to JUST be ABLE to barely keep up in a laptop. However, the only reason why this laptop is so cheap is because it has an AMD CPU and motherboard. Although AMD has extremely unneficient processors, they're dirt cheap and a very considerable option.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh End gaming at a discount.

Pros: Got mine a while back and I have little in the way of anything bad about this.

*Steel Series Keyboard: Yep this thing was a bonus for me but one that I under estimated. This thing is tough, quiet, responsive and still looks and feels brand new several months later.

*7970m-8970m the later being the overclock of the prior both being amazing cost effective combatants of the Nividia 680m at half the price on some occasions. I have regularly argued with Nividia purists in how I get their frame rates and saved enough money in my wallet to buy a second AMD card if I want. Bought and played the new Tomb Raider on absolute highest settings as high as it would allow me to take it. Now keeping in mind that was defined as one of the most graphicly intensive games of this year and I still had over 30 frames on a sub 1,500 laptop was a steal.

1080p Antiglare: Yea 1080 was a must for high end gaming but with an anti glare screen its even better, the color quality isn't the best but at this price yea its awesome.

Bluray: Yep it has this to, an after thought since everything is via the internet by Origins and Steam now but as yet another bonus in this price range its a must.

Sound: Now I was after amazing quality in all aspects including sound. Using only the internal sound capabilities on some true 5 surround sound headphones games sound amazing more so then anything I have experienced before. In online shooters the sound quality can give you that small advantage.

Cons: Very Few but in fairness there are weaknesses.

Windows 8: Don't let ANYONE fool you. Windows 8 is perhaps their worst one to date, a touch screen operating systems on laptop and desktop computers is a pain and that is EXACTLY what this is. It takes the tried and true methods and system operations that windows is known for and hides them in a labyrinth of new file paths having several that exist visibly in their root programs that you simply can't use. Some files when downloading essentially giving you a huge "What? Where am I supposed to place this important file?" sort of remark at this OS. Several loyal game developers have come straight out and said how outlandishly counter intuitive this OS is. I agree with every fiber of my being. If you can get windows 7. With windows 7 you get higher performance rating, smoother program instillation and file look up and reduced RAM load. The one advantage of windows 8 is it does start up pretty fast.

AMD A-10: A double edged sword as the defining device that keeps this platform both cheap and pure AMD for them fans. It being much weaker then several other types but non for the performance in this price range. Able to place several good games on just this processor alone. This processor bottlenecks the computer but mostly only on processor intensive games that handle poorly optimized physics systems etc. I almost find there to be no drawback saver for the extremely rare games that still make this a problem. All in all the optimization we may see for games for AMD hardware because of AMD owning all of the up and coming consoles is said likely to help with this. But all in all it is a draw back worth noting.

Other Thoughts: Portable and cost effective power in a laptop that I spend months searching around for. I could only possibly be happier if it didn't come with windows 8. Its over all quality continues to surprise me to this day. I'm an extremely guilty person finding even spending 1$ on a soda to annoy me some times when I could go to the fountain instead. But when I got this I just couldn't bring myself to be guilty. Its powerful as H E double hockey sticks and you won't regret it unless you were already planning to spend some 2 grand on an alienware as that is about the next most logical option.
