You cannot play CDs or DVDs on this laptop without buying an external USB drive. There is no optical drive, which helps keep the laptop slim.

Yes it does. mine came with a soft yet firm black color with the MSI emblem on the right bottom corner. It is very nice.

Hi. Anyone have any issues with the build quality, particularly the hinges and screen rigidity? I have the MSI GT725 for about 5 years and the hinges were always too small, which gives a wobbly screen. Plus the hinges broke recently.  I'm looking at the GS60 and GS70 and the Batallion M1771 which is very similar

Hello Brian. I own the MSI GS70 2OD-229US Gaming Notebook, since November 2013. Per your inquiry, I feel the build quality of the GS70 is very solid. The hinge is very strong and has never shown signs of weakening. In regards to the screen, there is some play and flex, but very little. Despite the flex the screen remains rigid. On more than one occasion I have opened the laptop by the corner of the screen (not thinking). The screen remains perfectly parallel to the base of the laptop, closing flush every time. The back of the screen is brushed steel, while the inside bezel is plastic. The plastic is what gives it, it's flex, while the steel backing keeps it from bending to far.

In summation, I highly reccomend the MSI GS70. Not only for its rigidity, but it's gaming prowess to boot. I can play games like BF4, Crysis 3, Titanfall, etc., on med. to high settings, running 30-45 FPS.

How many HDMI ports does the LED tv have?

1 on the left, but it has 0 micro USB so careful if you use those. Good computer but not worth it if you are going to use it as a desktop, only buy if you really will take it places.

Has anyone NOT had a problem with the touchpad on this machine?

I had problems with the touchpad on this machine in the beginning, so I did my research and founded that there's 2 kinds of driver that supported the touchpad(Sentelic driver and synaptics driver), and each has slightly different ways of controls, you just have to know which software your machine has (mine is synaptics driver), and then you'll most likely find your answer by googling it. It's confusing because the controls are slightly different from other machines that I've tried, but you will get used to it.

May upgrade the SSD on this (this will not void warranty, verified by MSI over the phone) what size does it use? Also if you have run games on this, whats the most demanding game you've run and how did the laptop fair in terms of fps, heat, ect?

Depending on the model you get it comes with either a single 120 GB SSD and 500 GB HDD or dual SSDs not sure of the size on the dual model as I got the single SSD version.  Played Hitman Absolution on highest settings and get decent frame rate not sure exactly what the count was.  Also played Remember Me and most recently participated in the WildStar BETA and all fared well.  Not sure on the heat issue as I have my unit sitting on a chest and use my 47" flat screen as a monitor.  The HDD seems to run quite a bit and you can hear it ramp up and down through the course of a game or when streaming a movie.  I am finding the learning curve for Windows 8 to be the most problematic issue associated with the unit though.  Might see about upgrading to a large format 500+ GB SSD to replace the HDD then it will likely run more silently.

Hi, I just decide to pruchase this product come with a TV( didnt really want it), and i later realize that this laptop is somewhat different than the original 750GB and 1TB one . Can some one give me a clear understanding of the difference, so i can decide to return it to get the better one or not.

It is a steel series keyboard with multicolored backlights, not sure what else you would want to know about that that you wouldn't see in the picture or specs

It also has UEFI with secure boot in case you were planning on doing anything other than Windows. Both helps and hinders loading another OS should you so desire to.

Make sure to update the drivers for 8.1 from the MSI website and disable the stock sound managers if you want to do anything with audio and bluetooth should you upgrade to Win8.1.

Fans run fairly quietly as well, even when running intense applications (not nearly silent, but quieter than expected)

hey would anyone know if this particular gs70 is brand new with all accessories in original packaging ?

As far as I could tell, this was a new unit.  The first thing to do with it is to get it upgraded to Windows 8.1 and then add the second big upgrade that Microsoft has put out.  It does not have a disk CD/DVD/BluRay drive, however.  I do recommend the Pioneer BDXL.  I have had good performance from it.  I should also mention that the machine comes with a carrying case, so you are spared that expense.

I like this notebook. 
I need a minimum of 16 GB RAM expandability but it looks like this one caps out at 12GB unless I'm mistaken.
Any chance this machine will support 16 GB?

the more expensive ones have 16, its just dulled down a bit you can upgrade up to 32, but in order to open the chassie you have to violate your warranty. If your not too bad with computers then its not really a big deal just make sure you use it a bit before tampering with the sticker make sure there's no factory errors. the more expensive versions just have more hard drive space and and extra SSD, but like i said you can upgrade it.

I should be buying this tuesday or wednesday march 18/19. will the deal with the 50'' likely still be there?

Not a big fan of Windows 8 but it is growing on me. The system itself is very fast and responsive. There is not much internal storage for software installs with 128GB for the SSD. Consider the larger SSD if considering purchasing this system.

The TV is awesome, if it is included for free as mine was during the Christmas sales.
