4 out of 5 eggsExcellent, Except...

Pros: The thing is an all around beast.
- Amazing boot time.
- Excellent graphic capability.
- Non-glossy screen looks very good.
- Not completely overridden with bloatware
- Keyboard feels quite nice to type on. It has a slightly deeper actuation point compared to other laptops I've used (which is why I like it). It also feels like it could take a pretty serious typing-beating before any wear occurs. You can also configure the back-lights so up to three colors illuminate different thirds of the keyboard simultaneously. Yes, please.
- For weighing between 8 and 9 pounds, it sure doesn't feel like it.
- The sound is pretty good. Haven't tested the "sub-woofer," but even if it blows, the mid-range/tweeters/other speakers/what-have-you sound better than average to say the least.
- It looks good (the chassis)!

Cons: This is the except:
- Norton AV pre-installed and help me try to actually take this trash out.
- 1TB HDD =/= 1TB or 1024GB or 1000GB. Someone decided that 916GB is an acceptable number to also call 1TB. I vehemently disagree (I'm also very particular, but you may not care for the 84GB you aren't getting).

Minus 1 egg for atrocious AV. Resisting taking more for HDD spec inaccuracy.

Other Thoughts: Some specs of the product I received don't match what I ordered, so I'm trying to this objective. Assuming what you receive is what you ordered, I really don't think you could get a better value laptop.
A strong 4-eggs, indeed.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat machine, needs higher wattage power adapter

Pros: *Everything works together flawlessly.
*Heat isn't as bad as expected.
*Pretty screen for single viewing once calibrated.
*Easy to upgrade.
*Runs games at 60 FPS or near it. 880m tears it up!
*On-board sound is good for a notebook but SBC needs to add an actual equalizer to get the best from the Dynaudio speakers.
*Keyboard is bright enough and not too flexy. Can make the back lite any color you like even white.
*Sturdy construction. No flex on the lid due to brushed aluminum panel.
*Boot time in a few seconds. ON BATTERY.
*Doesn't seem as heavy as some of the other desktop replacements I've carried.

Cons: *NoS battery boost. If you're going to put an 880m + an I7 4800MQ together give it enough power from the wall not to drain the battery. Why a 180 watt power adapter when the GPU & CPU pulls that @ full load? I get that MSI was worried about heat and fried components but I think the system as configured can handle it though I wonder if the battery can. Reason for 1 -star.
*Glossy plastic around the keyboard. Reminds me of my old Asus G71. Lit case badge on the lid is just as tacky as the one on the Asus. NO LIT CASE BADGES, manufacturers!
*A webcam that needs Skype or third-party software to properly set, none provided by MSI.
*Win 8.1 GUI. Solved by using Classic Shell.

Other Thoughts: All-in-all, I'm satisfied with this beast but if I were to do it again I would have gone with the Sager model at the same price with the same specs if only because no glossy plastic and the provided power adapter for the Sager is 330 watt, with a $600 option to SLI the 880m. The GT72 solves some of the cons with this machine with a downgraded CPU & upgradeability the trade-off. I prefer this one though, w/ a 12v fan, not two 5v ones. The noise is not that bad from the cooling even w/ the Cooler Boost feature on.
That said this rig is fine and no major regrets just a lot of polishing smudges off of the shiny plastic.

For those wondering, the RAM is installed under the KB and not that difficult to access if you need to. You go from the top not the bottom to get to it.

When I went into DM and selected hidden devices, I saw that my machine once had an I7 4900MQ installed. ?? Previous model re-tooled perhaps, an industry norm.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly surprising

Pros: The keyboard is incredibly comfortable. I used to use the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. The cooling is good when you don't use mega applications (played Diablo 3 for an hour w/o problems). I wouldn't say the cooling system (the ventilation ++) is loud as people say, but we can hear it if you don't have music playing or headphones on. The speakers themselves are GREAT, they can outplay many of the speakers. Colors of the screen are nice, matte finish just gets me too. Also, the sturdiness seems great and this is what I needed. Webcam quality is surprising.

Cons: The touchpad is smaller than normal, but not something to worry a lot about. Even without mouse I still find the touchpad pretty good. Comes with some bloatwares easily removed.

4 out of 5 eggsWow!

Pros: Just got it. Really enjoying all the little touches. Light up keyboard with RGB LEDs that you can change and program. Nice track pad. Sleek finishes. It's really quick. Boots fast due to the SSD. Big old screen with 1080p res! While I know that 1080p res is practically standard now, my old laptop had 768 vertical resolution on a 15.6" screen, and this is WORLDS apart.

Cons: When the fan turns on, I feel like someone should speak over a PA and tell me that we've reached a cruising altitude of 30,000 feet because this thing sounds like a jet engine. But I knew that going in so it's not much of a con. Y'all should know too!

Mixed feelings about this matte screen. I came from a glossy and I'm used to things being very sharp. But this is glare resistant and favored by pro gamers, so I am going to try to get used to it.

Other Thoughts: More thoughts and ideas as I use this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far excellent

Pros: Love the keyboard (although some keys are a little differently placed) and matrix display options. Not as heavy as I expected, but it is a little bigger than I expected, but the build is very solid. Does not feel cheap, feels like it could take a beating. Not much software off the bat. Windows 8.1 isnt too terrible, getting used it to still though. No trouble with games like Civ V so far. Will run a fairly quiet fan rather high during heavy use. Has a wonderful physical button for enabling or disabling the touchpad. Very very responsive compared to my previous computer. Loads in seconds. Very nice feel to it, and hasn't disappointed yet. Rubber feet on screen allow for a lot of compression before the screen starts to bend, and the aluminum panel helps maintain shape, which I imagine will prevent damage to the screen. Most content about the incredible response this machine has. Plastic used is very tough, which pleases me. Content with the ability to carry around all my settings in my main powerhouse wherever life may take me now as a student.

Cons: Finding a carrying case that fit it and my needs was a challenge but I went with a huge Targus clamshell bag. Had a slight graphical glitch during one of the few first days but hasn't duplicated so maybe was my intense session of updating drivers, particularly updates and displays. Windows 8 takes some getting used to. The VGA display port in the back does not have the screws to keep it in place, minor pet peeve more than a design flaw as nothing has disconnected during use so far. System controls and functions and software and buttons are still a little obscure to me. Can run rather warm during heavy use, so not recommended to be used in such a way in a case or surface with bad ventilation or heat dissipation, which means one more bulky accessory (cooling pad) to carry around if you need to use it heavily elsewhere than home or you are bound to surfaces. I was also under the impression that I was to have the Pro accessories but there was no such thing in my package. Very safely packaged. Metal and particularly the glossy plastic surfaces are very very easily smudged, which bothers me immensely, so I am constantly wiping it down with a now mandatory microfiber cloth.

Other Thoughts: Minor concerns, but overall a very very content owner thus far.

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy

Pros: Feels solid and well-build. Very fast and can handle pretty much any game at max at a minimum of 30fps but mostly 60fps. Speakers are crisp and loud with decent low-end.

Cons: A little heavy but is expected for the horsepower. Turning on Cooler Boost raises the fan noise quite a bit. Fingerprints smudging is noticeable .

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. The cons are minor in my opinion. I recommend it for anyone looking for the best performance at a not overly-indulgent price.

2 out of 5 eggsMSI GT70

Pros: Fast, 16GB memory is standard, excellent graphics(when the GTX 880 is working), internal fan cools well, if a bit loud. Back-lit keyboard

Cons: Constantly reverts to Intel on board graphics instead of the GTX 880M, shipping back to manufacturer for memory issues and a broken Blue-Ray/DVD drive, several software conflicts

Other Thoughts: I rarely purchase the first round of new products, but the price was right. I have had problems with the off-brand Blue-Ray drives in my last 3 computers, so I should have waited until the Samsung or LG were options
