5 out of 5 eggsLove It

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: Overall a great laptop. Extremely fast, runs ESO very smoothly on highest quality. Matte screen is fantastic, speakers better than previous experience. SO LIGHT.

Cons: Windows 8 is the worst. Ever. Also battery life not great but knew that going in, not what this is designed for.

4 out of 5 eggsAn Excellent First Laptop

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: -Screen looks great
-GPU and CPU perform well
-Keyboard is responsive and comfortable to use
-The backlighting is impressive, and easy to customize with the included Steelseries software
-Boot-up is lightning-fast.The SSD is definitely worth it.
-The power button changes color to alert you when the computer switches from the onboard graphics (blue) to the nvidia card (orange).

Cons: -As other reviewers have mentioned, not all the keys are backlit. The F7/F8/F9/F11 keys are not lit on my keyboard. I assume this is due to the space being taken up by computer hardware. It doesn't really bother me while I'm working/playing, but it does when I notice it, and it seems like an odd design choice.
-Less bloatware than I was expecting, but it was still there.
-After hours of prolonged gaming, a few horizontal lines will intermittently flicker across the screen. Apparently, this may happen if some components get too hot. If it gets worse, or starts to happen during regular use, I'll update this review. Hopefully, it's just due to heavy use.
-No other hardware issues after 2 months of heavy use.

Other Thoughts: -I've had very limited experience with the trackpad, since I use a mouse, but the few times I have used it have been relatively painless.
-Ditto the speakers; I use headphones.
-Other people have mentioned that the bezel or construction seems cheap, but it looks and feels solid and well-constructed to me.
-The function key is located where the Windows key is supposed to be (left side of the keyboard). I wasn't able to switch it back using the included software, or even AutHotkey. Probably not a big issue for people who don't use the Windows key a lot, but a bit of an inconvenience for me.
-This is my first laptop, and I could hardly be happier with it.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: Replacement unit has worked flawless. Screen is outstanding as is the keyboard. The speed is also amazing, powerhouse little machine.Runs cool and fan noise not an issue..

Cons: As others have noted, trackpad is difficult to use(slow, semi-unresponsive at times) hopefully a software update can fix.
Lid does feel a little flimsy so care should be used.

Other Thoughts: Opted for replacement instead of refund, took a couple weeks to get everything sorted, newegg came thru with a new replacement. ! Thanks newegg !
As to flimsy screen, only time will tell about durability, this is a ultrabook so weight is important.
Not a lot of bloat-ware, easy to remove.Wifi has not been a issue for me.
minus 1egg for doa and unruly trackpad

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: Design, Build Quality, Display, CPU, GPU, Memory, Audio, Keyboard, Track-pad Temperatures, etc...

Cons: Nothing major... I don't believe very minor issues should be called "cons"
some things are just preferences...

4 out of 5 eggsQuite pleased

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: Thin
Light
Powerful
Beautiful

This laptop has handled everything I have thrown at it and I am quite happy with it.

Cons: The lid is feels flimsy when you open and close it. I have had to change my habit of opening it from the corner to opening it from the middle.

Bloatware. I believe there were only 3 or 4 things that I uninstalled right off the bat with this computer which is by no means horrible, just something to keep in mind. The uninstalls were straight forward and nothing tried to hang on.

Other Thoughts: My first shipment was essentially DOA either the AC adapter or something along the powerline was bad as it wasn't charging. Newegg was great with getting me a replacement right away,

I ran 8.1 for awhile just to test the waters before I switched it over to arch linux. In linux everything works out of the box other than the Optimus graphics which require bumblebee, and the webcam which I still haven't gotten working.

Awaiting full refund.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming notebook but..

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: Quiet, ultra thin, very lightweight, good GPU.

Cons: Trackpad is pretty slow for its use, you'll have to use a mouse the majority of the time.

My biggest concern is the wireless... I'm not sure if I received a defective model or what not, but apparently my model cannot hold a steady signal. It WILL keep dropping from 0 KBytes to regular speed internet(1.2MBytes). This gets really annoying when you're doing online stuff such as browsing the internet and gaming multiplayer. I've registered and spoke with a tech at MSI but all the help they're giving me is basically software solutions. I believe that my wifi module inside the notebook is what is causing the problem. I will be doing a RMA if I can't get it fixed.

4 out of 5 eggsMemory Leaks

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: The laptop runs everything smoothly; all the games run amazing.

The keyboard is nice and the resolution is great.

Cons: Man this laptop just loves losing 90% of its RAM to nothing.

You sit on the desktop and it loses 90% with no background programs running at all. How is that even possible?

5 out of 5 eggsTiny pantheon of zues this machine is incredible.

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: Lighting fast, incredible versatile, amazingly cool, quiet, and LIGHT. Near perfection.

Cons: No Cons, I wish it had the same build as the Razer Blade or Mac Pro /w aluminum. IT WOULD NOT CHANGE MY PURCHASE DECISION I WOULD STILL BUY OVER THE 2013 RAZER BLADE MODEL.

Other Thoughts: I bought this go use in law school. It is uber light and will fit my needs PERFECTLY.

4 out of 5 eggsMSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007

This review is from: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-007 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1

Pros: The keyboard is one of the best I have used. I have a wired full keyboard connect when at my desk but I find myself using the laptop keyboard anyway.
Powerful and fast. The SSD drive for the OS speeds up boot time. I have all my programs installed on the physical 7200 RPM D drive but I can still notice a faster, more consistent load time for games and other programs.
The option to autocratically turn off the track pad when a USB mouse is connected is a nice add. I am still learn to use this track pad.
I have a mid level gaming ( i7 CPU, Nivida GeForce GTX 560, Window 7) tower that is about 3 years old and this laptop defiantly out preforms it. I play Guild Wars II and I no longer see lag in the game when there are large number of players in an inclosed space.
The laptop is lite and seems very well built except for the plastic around the front of the display.
The display is very bright, and crisp. I have a 25 inch monitor connected and I still use the laptop display for some things because it looks so good. The font is small because of the high resolution and 15 inch display size but with Windows 8 you can adjust the font size to adapt if needed. I wear glasses and the native font size is fine when setting close to the laptop for me.
Camera imaged is good.
I like that the power light is blue for the Intel HD graphics and amber when using the Nvidia GeForce.
Sound system works great for gaming with a good head set. Built in speakers do provide some directional affect. The sound quality is average for a high end laptop. There is only so much you can do with such small space.
Lighted MSI gaming icon on the back of the display is a nice add.

Cons: This are all small issues and have little affect on my overall satisfaction.
Run your finger from the back edge of the display to the front and you can feel the sharp edge of the flimsy plastic around the front of the display. It seem so out of place considering the sold high quality of everything else on the laptop. If your going to have a week area this is the place to do it so its not that big a deal to me.
LED lights under the keys look impressive. I did not think I would care much about the lighting but I enjoy the look. That said, not all the keys on my keybaord have lighted LEDs all the way around the keys. Most keys have lighted LEDs under each corner of the key. The front LEDs do not light on F7, F8, F9, F11 and over half the keys on the numeric pad. I did call technical support about this and they said not all key have the same level a active LEDs. It is not noticeable until you set directly in from of the keys for a while.
The laptop is wider than most 15 inch laptops. I suspect this is related to the good cooling solution this laptop has. This will decrease the options for laptop bags. It does comes with it's own laptop sleeve. The fact that is weighs less than my 14 inch work laptop and is a half inch thinner makes up for it!

Other Thoughts: I work in IT so I am around laptops all the time. I am very pleased with this laptop and the ones at work seem cheap compared to this one now. I am satisfied with the laptop and I fully expect it will meet my gaming, and work from home needs for several years.
