5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent performance for the price. Makes for a great machine for dual-boot if desired since you can un-couple the RAID and have two 128GB SSD drives.

Cons: No Windows Recovery install media, tho I tend not to use windows so it was no big loss.

Other Thoughts: This machine works great for the Ubuntu install I have setup.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lightweight
Extremely quick boot speed
Surpasses expectations

I decided to purchase this because it was in my price range, plus came with a free 24 inch monitor. Now, I don't know what I was expecting, but this little beast of a laptop is amazing. It can handle most of my games set to ultra it also handles everything else really well. The fans also aren't really that bad. They haven't actually caught my attention yet which is great. Nothing is getting too hot so I have no idea what the other reviews are talking about. Also. The keyboard. It is fantastic. It doesn't feel like other laptop keyboards. It feels good and is easy to adjust to.

Cons: Trackpad
Battery
Resolution
Bleeding

The trackpad could definitely be a lot better. I turned it off and now I just use a mouse at all times. The battery. I knew it would be bad, but I have to have it plugged in constantly if I want to seriously use it. This isn't too big of an issue since there will always be an outlet nearby when I really need to use it, but I would enjoy having at least 5 hours instead of 3. Now, the native resolution is 3K. Due to the size of the display, this was a poor choice. Everything is extremely small and hard to use. I recommend changing it to 1080p right away. The scaling is actually really good so when you use 1080p instead, it looks like it was made for it. Another minor con is the screen bleeding. I've only ever noticed it once and it was pitch black when I just booted it up. For a microsecond before windows logged me in, you could see some bleeding from the bottom. Not too much, so it really doesn't bug me that much.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a great laptop and you really can't beat the price.

2 out of 5 eggsWireless Network issue

Pros: - Light Weight
- Good looking
- Fast for the size
- Awesome Resolution

Cons: - Huge Wireless Network issue
- Heat... the back side of the laptop robber melted and slided off position. I'm using laptop cooler too btw.

Other Thoughts: First I thought it was just bad connection of a certain location. Then after testing, it is a problem with the wireless network card in this laptop. When I am running on battery, it works ok, but when I'm plugged in, the ping can jump up to 4000ms and alot of timeout. No clue how to fix it, Need help

2 out of 5 eggsMSI laptops = backlight bleed hell

Pros: Fast, fairly good heat dissipation, stylish, brand name (although this is now a con as well see below)

Cons: I spent close to 2k for this laptop and a bit less for the GT60 model...this is my 3RD attempt...that's right I returned two MSI laptops (GT60 and then purchased the GS for more to try my luck) All because of significant Backlight Bleeding on the monitor...for 80 bucks more you can replace the screen from a better manufacturer but WHY? Why would I pay 1800 dollars only to have a product with a sub par display? They all had it...I don't know what I will do with my GS60...this is very disappointing and I was a very VERY loyal MSI customer. I called their Tech Support and they said they were not aware of any backlight bleeding issues...ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 75% of reviews and customers have stated MSI laptops have less than stellar QA and faulty displays....I had 3 with all the same issue. It's too much money when you can buy a Digital Storm or equivalent laptop with 0 backlight bleed...or maybe I shouldve spent 400 bucks more for a Razerblade or Alienware

Other Thoughts: I lost my faith in MSI

Pros: Weight/Size

Speed

Cons: Only 3 USB

Other Thoughts: Have a yellow line going down left of LED screen. Send it back to MSI to get it fix, not to happy that I have to pay for the shipping and only had the laptop for 3 week.

4 out of 5 eggsThe (almost) perfect laptop

Pros: * Weight / Size
* Build quality
* Screen is very sharp
* SSD's in RAID 0 make booting up a breeze.
* The HDD is 7200rpm
* Speakers are very loud compared to other laptops i've owned

Cons: The main issue with the laptop is the heat when under load. I did pick up a cooling pad for just this reason so for me it's not a huge issue.

Fans can get loud under load.

The touchpad is not ideal and I would prefer separate mouse buttons. Getting a mouse solves this for desk use but when using it on a couch it can get a little tedious.

The 256gb ssd fills up pretty quick when installing games.

Scaling is an issue given the 3k resolution.

Quite a bit of bloatware though I formatted it before use.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a great little laptop. My main concern when buying was the size and weight and this delivered on both counts. The gaming performance has been solid thus far and all games have run smoothly on high settings. The heat is an issue but for the size it's understandable. Scaling is also an issue for quite a few apps. If the heat level was reduced and scaling was fixed I would give the unit a solid 5.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI GS Series GS60 Ghost Pro 3K-095 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 3GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Size

Speed
Display
Graphics
Weight
Simple

Cons: Display
Plug Ins
3 USBs
Video*

Other Thoughts: In my opinion,

PROS

Size - It's a little hard for me to not like its size seeing as I went from an Alienware Mx17R2. The size of this laptop is perfect if you are OK with a 15.6" display, it seems to fit in just about all the practical areas and just generally looks good on a desk.

Keyboard - The tactical feedback is perfect, wrist rest comfortably on the laptop. The "Spacebar" is a tad small.

Screen - Gorgeous, there is some bleeding when the screen is emitting light while blacked. Other than that I have not noticed anything else. I do wish the frame was a bit thinner though.

Speed - It's pretty F*#&ing fast. Though that can be achieved with some laptops depending on the users knowledge and financial situation.

Display - The 3k display is beautiful, colors are quite vivid and I didn't need to make much adjustments to get images or graphics to my liking. (I just increased the saturation a little and was very pleased)

Graphics - All of the games I have run so far have been maxed out except for Crysis 3 and DayZ ( at least not with 3K) other games include, Crysis, Arma 3 (Not at 3K), Dark Souls 1 &2, Tomb Raider, Dead Space, BF4, The Witcher 2, State of Decay, Skyrim. There is more I belive but I haven't had any time to run them. Nvidia GeForce recommends lower setting on certain games but I only experienced a loss of roughly 5-8 FPS when maxing them out; and they were still over all high.

Weight - Again I had a alienware I lugged around through Europe and the Middle East so this is a no brainer in my case. I do think most customers will appreciate its weight.

Simple - The design is beautiful I love the fact that nothing about it screams (Hey look at my expensive gaming computer!) in public places people walk right by it without glancing or asking me about it and I appreciate it.

CONS

Display - I may be ignorant on this subject but I have searched around for a better solution to no avail. The 3K is great but unfortunately it leaves text very small. I have tweaked the setting to make text bigger but I really don't like the results (The menu bars in applications stay the same size but the text everywhere else is larger, so certain items within menus are still small) I feel like it hinders the uniformity of information being displayed. If anyone has a solution for it I would love the help.

Plug ins - The AC plug in is on the left side towards the rear. When you have that plugged in and a USB it just looks tacky, I don't see why they didn't integrate a way to have the plug in hidden in the back of unit. I have a Kensington lock attached currently, and with the one I purchased, it doesn't agree with the AC plug in, I have to aim the unlocking button down just to get it to sit comfortable.

3 USBs - Four, Four seems like it should be a standard.

Video* - This could be just me. While playing videos (gaming sometimes) I have stutters happening every 30 - 40 seconds. All movies are on the HDD and they are just

1 out of 5 eggsTried Several - All have the same ISSUES

Pros: Slim Profile
Light Weight
Lots of Power for the Money

Cons: *BLUETOOTH
is Currently Broken on every GS60 and GS70.
(It works briefly and then falls asleep, to wake it you have to go to PC Devices then Bluetooth and once you open the page it wakes up for another 5-20 minutes.)
*WIFI
Is currently Broken. You have two options.
1. Use Windows Generic Drivers. You will get up to 50% of your internet speed. Like I get 50mbps out of 100. However doing this means you can't play online games. Titanfall won't event establish a connection because the WIFI is cutting in and out really fast. Other games will play then disconnect.
Option 2. Use Driver 17.0.5 You will be able to connect to games like Titanfall but there will be Lag. Your internet download speed will be 2% of your normally speed. I get around 2-3mbps. However that's on a good server like Speedtest.net. Expect Internet pages to take several seconds even up to a minute to fully load. Think late days of Dial-up early days of DSL at best.
Then there are the small issues, that would just make this a 4/5 of it didn't have major issues.
Lots of LED bleeding with the LED backlit screen. You can see white lines on the sides with bright screens and big areas of glow with the dark.
The Keyboard is nice but does have some flew like others mentioned. (not really an issue imo).

CUSTOMER SUPPORT
The Tech support is a Joke. Clearly they are not MSI only employees as they know almost nothing about the Brand or anything specific to MSI products. Like the WIFI and BLUETOOTH issues. Their only advice is to do a complete PC reset. Which by the way does nothing. They know nothing about which drivers work better than others. Or anything else. So don't count on support to fix you laptop.

Killer Gaming Network
It's broke! Surprise! There is an application out there that will remove this software and let you have a minimal install. Which helps I think but just another example of this product being broke out of the bag.

Drivers
Like the ones mentioned above plus several others with minor issues. It seems MSI bought a lot of fany sounding parts but put no effort in making sure they are compatible with each other. Good idea maybe, but poor execution.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line
If you can live with major issues like no Bluetooth, poorly functioning WIFI and other driver issues, web cam, The Killer Gaming Network (junkware) and more in the hopes these issues will be resolved.
