Good for the price
- Pros: Good performance. 2nd generation AMD-V with nested paging allows near native VM performance. Great graphics performance. Sleak & neat design. Cool & quiet. Easily detachable DVD further reduces weight.
- Cons: Only 2.5-3 hr Battery life under normal usage (up to 3.5 hr with extremely light usage). TouchPad is a bit sensitive (could be a plus to other people, though).
- Other Thoughts: This is definitely a great laptop for the price. This is especially a great deal if you'd run VMs (e.g., Linux) under the Win7 host.
A lot of computer for the size and price
- Pros: A great overall computer. A lot of power and features that usually come on larger models and it comes at a reasonable price. The 14" display is probably the best compromise of size and portability for a laptop. Quick startup time with windows 7, much improved OS over Vista and XP. No more bloatware than any other computer, easy to get rid of. All the needed ports, 3 USB (1 is shared with eSATA); has remote control that stores in the computer; built in webcam; I like the touch pad volume; mouse pad locks with push of button; decent keyboard; 7200rpm hard drive-big plus; good picture/graphics card is very good and speakers sound good. I like the AMD processors over Intel, they are typically cheaper and faster. Don't be afraid of 64 bit, computers are all going that direction.
- Cons: Not many cons to this computer. I would have liked a metallic finish over the black high gloss finish which smudges easily. Battery life is average.
- Other Thoughts: I researched extensively for a laptop and this is the one I decided on - no regrets! Can't believe what they can get in these things - this has more storage and will outperform my desktop. Laptops have come a long ways in the past 4-5 years and this one shows it, it triples the performance of my 2005 model. I highly recommend this laptop.
Big stuff comes in small packages
- Pros: I love this laptop. The picture is crystal clear, the operating system (Win 7) works fine with my programs, and the laptop runs great. The wireless adapter having N included is a plus. The HDMI port is such a nice feature. I have a Netflix suscription and now I can hook my laptop up to my TV and watch it on the larger screen.
Also, this laptop is pretty light and small for a full featured laptop. I was really surprised how many great features they could squeeze in to such a small laptop.
I play online games (Aion and Guild Wars) and this laptop seems to do pretty well at being able to hadle that type of play. I've played on my laptop a few times (for a few hours at a time) and haven't had video distortion or lag while playing.
- Cons: There is some bloatware on this laptop but I've seen much larger amounts on other laptops. I was rather unhappy to find that HP no longer provides recovery DVDs with the software seperate (not crammed in to an image that doesn't allow installation of only certain software). For my last HP laptop I was able to get the types of disks I wanted (with the software seperate) but they say those disks aren't available for this laptop. I am unthrilled with this but that is an HP issue not a problem with New Egg.
So far that's the only con I've found for this laptop.
- Other Thoughts: My last laptop was a 17" and moving to a 14.1" screen took a little getting used to but the convenience of the size (and the light weight of the laptop) got me past the first weirdness after a couple days.
