1 out of 5 eggsOne star

Pros: Pros: Nice design, looks and feels great!
Ran nice at first...

Cons: Cons: HDD and memory errors, Hp sent me new HDD. unable too finish installing windows (surprise surprise) I have to send it back to HP for repair for 9-10 working days. Hp returned fixed laptop. And now more Blue screens and major usage of CPU while nothings running. Unable to watch movies, listen to music. No virus/malware. Will be in contact with HP.

Other Thoughts: "This is my first HP PC I ever bought. It will be without question the last HP unit I ever buy. If Newegg allowed me to return it for a refund, it would be returned in no time for a laptop from a different mfg." i couldn't have said it any better. very unsatisfied with my buy.

5 out of 5 eggsGood laptop

Pros: High performance, bought it on sale, with a rebate, so great bang/buck.

The thing is fast, period. Replaced the HDD with a SSD and it's even faster.

Haven't had any crashes/problems with drivers/etc.

Cons: The display seems a bit washed out, but I'm still tweaking it a bit.

The docking station is a bit weak; I'd prefer a full-featured docking station (HDMI, etc.).

Wish Newegg sold the second HDD adapter.

It's big, but then again, I knew that going in.

Other Thoughts: In response to the reviewer who couldn't find if it has SATA 300 Gbps support, the controller chipset is a "Intel 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller", which does support SATA 300Gbps.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome LapTop

Pros: Runs great with everything I need to run. Have not had any major problems with this device. Gaming on it is great.

Cons: Only thing I have to complain about is it is hard to find a bag to fit everything.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Worked great for the first 6 weeks

Cons: For the last two days several times the video driver has crashed and recoverd, the screen goes dark for about 5 seconds.

I did some research online and it seems that HP is having a problem with the NVIDIA 230m drivers crashing in their laptops with the nvidia 230m. There is a 6 page thread on the problem on the HP support forum.

2 out of 5 eggsBad viewing angle/distracting backlit screen

Pros: For an i7 laptop is runs cool, lots of input/out ports, runs fast and good price compaired to other highend laptops.

Cons: Very poor viewing angle. You cannot move your head too much without your view significantly changing. Also the brightly lit backlight from the screen is to distracting. Adjustments made no signaficant change.

Other Thoughts: This is not a good laptop for watching streeming movies, graphic design and photo editing. It will get the job done fast but viewing is the problem. I own a 17" HP DV9500 series laptop and the viewing angle and screen lighting is much much better.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Desktop Replacement

Pros: Did quite a bit of research before settling on this machine. Bought as a desktop replacement and it works fabulously in that role. Very fast and relatively quiet. Battery life is impressive: have not deep cycled the battery, but with moderate use and 50% brightness I was still at 51% battery life after 1-1/2 hours. Nice screen, works great in a dual monitor setup with an external monitor.

Cons: Relatively minor, but the fan cycles even with the CPU at idle. Not loud, but definitely noticeable in a quiet room. Guess the Quad processor runs warm. HP bloatware - more of a nuisance than a con.

Other Thoughts: This machine is heavy and the power brick is actually the size of a brick. It's mobile enough for me to move around the house or place on my lap, but shouldering this in a backpack would get tiresome pretty quick.

1 out of 5 eggsBIg time problems = RMAd

Pros: HP credited my account without any problems

Cons: I bought the dv8t with same specs except 18.4" screen. THe display driver crashes constantly and twice completely overtook the system (loud throttling with computer shaking and black screen) from which it would not escape.

THis is a known problem with these computers, already documented twice on HP website. There is no support available and there are new driver updates to download on HP or Nvidia websites (the HP driver is the same as the install, and the one on Nvidia website does not install correctly).

Funny thing is HP is not allowing any more negative reviews of this laptop on its website. I tried twice and they would not post them. Just for kicks I posted a positive review and it went right up on the board.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat machine!!

Pros: Fast, fast, fast!! Very nice machine, have had zero problems so far. I would highly recommend it. Windows 7 is wonderful!!!

Cons: The only con for this machine was the lose of 1/2 inch of screen from adding the camera. I upgraded from an old Pavillion that I have had for 4 years and loved it had no built in cam. I noticed immediately out of the box the screen on this model was smaller ...I realized they compromised the screen size to accomodate the web cam.

Other Thoughts: Overall a great laptop!!
