1 out of 5 eggsWorst laptop I've ever owned.

Pros: It does somewhat work, and will play games nicely (only with the fan at complete full speed, SO LOUD).

Cons: Heat problems out the door. When I first got it, it had an annoying ringing (only when using a USB device) and the internal fans go crazy, anywhere from not being on, to it sounding like it's ready for takeoff.

-After 3 hours on the phone with HP, I returned it to HP twice. The first time they sent it back they replaced the motherboard. This fixed the high-pitch squealing but the fan/heat issues were never fixed.
-Sent back a 2nd time for the "crazy-fan" issue, not sure what they did, seemingly nothing, because I've lived with this problem for 3+ years now.
-I had to buy a laptop cooler or it would crash during gaming.
-Hard drive area where I place my hand during gaming gets incredibly hot (we're talking able to burn skin). Have to use a USB keyboard to avoid this.
-Came with a 1 year warranty.

Other Thoughts: -This laptop was a "Lemon", but never recalled by HP and I will never buy another HP product again.
-Replaced this with a MSI Gaming Laptop, couldn't be happier with the MSI.
-HP is a dead company to me.

2 out of 5 eggsNot great

Pros: Fast Enough - I never feel like I'm waiting on this machine.

Cons: Noisy. Fan is always running, but never at a constant speed. Every few seconds the fan speeds up a little and then back down. It is a very annoying pattern. Sometimes for no reason the fan will speed up as if it's preparing for takeoff.

If you want to use this on the couch or in your lap, you probably want a lap-desk. It's easy to block the vents if it's not on a flat surface and it already runs hot.

Tons of useless HP bloatware.

The extra shortcut keys on the left of the keyboard get in the way. The escape key is on the far left, but it does not line up with the tab, caps lock, etc. keys. Even after a year of use I often hit F1 (help) instead of escape.

The touchpad is awful. The whole pad is the click button, but it only recognizes a click if you're in the lower part of the pad. If you are considering using linux with a dual boot, know that the touchpad will make this very difficult.

High glare screen is hard to read in any sunlight conditions.

Other Thoughts: You can change a setting in the boot config to make the F1-12 keys work without having to press the fn key. Basically it switches the behavior of the function key. This is very useful because F12 is the wireless toggle key. It's too easy to accidentally turn off WIFI in the default configuration, especially if you use the F12 key often.

I bought this partially based on the reviews. The "minor" complaints turned out to be major put-offs for me. After using other laptops that don't suffer from these problems, it's easy to see that these little things that could have been done right with some extra effort on HP's part. If I had it to do over again, I would have spent more money on a better laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGood computer

Pros: Graphics card. Plays sc2 on at least medium, and high in some other depts.

Sound is iffy. It sounds amazing from online radio or other apps. However, the sound output from the dvd player seems a little low. Just a buy some external speakers if it really bothers you.

Cons: Fan. This is a minor issue but I worry about it down the line. When I play games or sometimes when I watch a movie, it blows really hot. My wood desk will be warm to the touch even if I move the computer away. And if you put your hand next to the fan, it's almost too hot that you kinda have to insta-reaction pull back your hand real fast because it's like sizzling/boiling hot. I guess this could be a pro if you live in michigan and want to keep your hands warm on a late night... doing whatever you do.

I don't find the mouse annoying. Just buy an external mouse if you're so annoyed.

The keyboard is a bit spaced out, I have to admit. However, I don't type long papers anymore so I dont really care. As for gaming, it doesn't take too long to get used to the abnormal spacing for hotkey use.

Turning up/down volume does take you out of a program, but if your surfing the web (like watching video) it doesn't necessarily minimize anything.

Other Thoughts: I transitioned from full time student to full time worker. Thus I had money to purchase a new computer, specifically for multimedia and games. Power and keyboard/mousepad were not an issue for me. I just wanted a computer that could play games real well at a decent price. This computer does that... although the price has gone up 100 bucks now. It was too good of a deal I guess.

I read all the reviews and was kinda scared about getting a defected computer. Mine turned out fine and i had no hardware/case issues. If you do, it's because its built in china and the manufacturing there is either not good or the reassembling in US is poor.

This computer has meet all my needs. It's sufficient enough that you really don't have to buy extra peripherals, unless ur super a-nal picky. All in all, I would buy this again if it were at the same price. Unfortunately its not.

5 out of 5 eggssome things I forgot to mention

Pros: same as my original review

Cons: forgot to mention 2 things here:
The charger outlet is on the right side, and it restricts the ability to move the mouse around when using a separate mouse

also, then fan on the GPU is pretty loud, and randomly switches on full power/off

Other Thoughts: same as original review

3 out of 5 eggsAn Okay Notebook

Pros: -The Computer's overall performance is quite good. Great CPU, RAM is up to speed, and the Graphics card is not too shabby for the price.
-The Keyboard configuation
-Great price-performance ratio!

Cons: -HP should have thought about the Mouse-Pad more, it is really not effective to use.
-HP driver support for this computer is horrible. (only support for it is Windows 7 Home Premium (R)).
-Hardware is not well known.
-Computer has a bad cooling system (not enough air flow).

Other Thoughts: Because I do not like all of the extra software that is found on computers I decided to reinstall Windows 7 (R) on my Notebook. I finished installing all of the drivers and realized that the drivers were not compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate (R). I called HP support hoping for the problem to be resolved. However, they told be that I would have to pay them more money to just reinstall the old Operating System. I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium (R).

4 out of 5 eggsnice little laptop

Pros: Very nice laptop for the price alot of fluff software but easy to remove. Keys are silent and easy to press with long nails. Nice easy to read screen and light to lift.

Cons: the mousepad touchpad is a pain in the b u tt. It turns off randomly at times and you have to log off to get the mouse back. I dont like the touch pad at all it is all one unit including the buttons, too easy to miss touch. Other note is sound is cra pp y, very cheap sound card and or speakers. My only disappointment is in the speakers i can live with the mouspad/touchpad issue but the sound is really cra pp y.

Other Thoughts: speakers could be better. Sound is rather cheap.... Sounds like cheap speakers i would change the speakers and sound card in this. If it wasnt for the cheap sound card / speakers i would gave 5 star. So hp dont cheap up your sound card it isnt that expensive to put in a decent sound card.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Laptop

Pros: A little fast.

Cons: - Horrible mouse
- Worst Keyboard, keys looks like cheap plastic, uncomfortable layout
- Two graphics cards and Two sound cards conflict a lot.
- Overall cheap looks.
- Already gave for repair to HP once in two months.
- Rebate needs the UPC code in original so that the laptop cannot be returned to HP or Newgg.com

Other Thoughts: Very clever on part of HP..that they ask for UPC Code for rebate, this way u cannot return the laptop to HP or Newegg in any way. I am extremely unhappy with the performance of this laptop. It already crashed once in its first two months.. I think so HP jus wanna sell off these machines for less price..as they perform very bad and have very poor build quality. It was a very bad experience this this laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent laptop

Pros: Great specs for the price, will run multiple applications with no problem, most games run without framerate issues as well.

Laptop build feels sturdy and firm.
GPU switching is a good feature, although I just like to keep the higher powered GPU on at all times since I have this laptop plugged in usually.
Great webcam for those who use it

Overall Great Laptop!

Cons: Probably the biggest con for me was the massive amount of HP bloatware that came with this laptop.
I just reinstalled windows with minimum software and drivers, and that took care of that problem.

Also, it's strange that the mousepad click buttons are part of the actual mousepad itself, and this causes you to move the mouse sometimes when trying to click. It's not too bad though, and I just use a wireless mouse with the laptop anyways.

Other Thoughts: Some people seem to have issues with the keyboard layout. For me it was no problem, just took a day or two getting used to.

Speakers are decent but could have been better.

The Fn buttons require you to press the Fn key to use them.
This isn't a problem, because I use the other functions on the Fn keys (volume up/down, screen brightness up/down, etc) more often then the F5, F4, etc. functions

Overall though, this is an excellent laptop, definitely deserves 5 eggs.
