Cons: This things get soooo hot. I mean stove top hot. Many of the games end up crashing after 10 minutes

2 out of 5 eggsHOT!!!

Pros: It is lightweight and it runs pretty quiet and smooth.

Cons: The palm areas and bottom got so extremely hot it could not be used in your lap. Laptop - lap = useless. Seems to be an issue with this model according to the interweb.

Other Thoughts: If HP fixes the heat issues it would be a fantastic laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsExternal DVD player

Pros: Works fast and has a clean appearance. Have played many games yet but confident that they will be play nicely.

Cons: Biggest let down is the exrternal DVD player. Never seen anything like it. I thought all Laptops DVD players were built in, not this one. In convenient on the go and kinda lame.

Other Thoughts: Other than the external DVD player. Its great!!

4 out of 5 eggsScreen makes the laptop

Pros: -Screen res is great
-Has a neat little "instant on" OS that can do email, music, web(lost when moving to SSD)
-Crazy fast
-Looks great
-touch pad and keyboard feel solid

Cons: -At first kept hitting caps lock when trying to type a, got used to it pretty quickly.
-Battery life is what you would expect it to be with an i7 laptop.
-Came with a loose screw rattling inside the case by the CPU. It had thread lock on the threads so I'm guessing whoever re-certified it lost it inside or forgot it was there.
-CPU fan closest to the user began a very noisy death less than a week after first use.
-Core i7's make a high pitched whine, doing some reading it appears this is linked to running at a lower voltage. No option to up the voltage in the bios. Doesn't really bother me.

Other Thoughts: -First thing I did when I got it was upgrade it to a SSD. The upgrade could be intense for someone new to upgrading laptops, lots of screws and some ribbon cables than can be tricky to get back on. However this thing hauls with the SSD. No regrets there.
-HP tech support was pretty good. Called in and said the CPU fan was failing and couldn't afford to be without the laptop for two weeks. With little difficulty I got a manager who overnighted me the part for free, I may have lost the remainder of my 90 day warranty, but I'm not too worried.
*Bottom line*
I wanted a laptop with as high of a res screen as possible. This laptop is half the price of a macBook pro. Done

5 out of 5 eggsDefiantly worth it

Pros: Very fast, Great i7 processor, ATI 4830, plays new games pretty well, the screen is very bright and looks very sharp with the 1920-1080 res. Solid construction. So worth the price.

Cons: Battery life isn't so great, but just as goatimus said, that to be expected for a laptop like this. Thats about it.

Other Thoughts: I cant comment on the heat. most people say it runs hot but my old computer would run at 185F after an hour or two of crysis, the ENVY on the other hand only gets up to 145F, but i cant really complain about heat as long as it works. I don't mind the external disc drive since i never use discs.

3 out of 5 eggsWell Documented Bad Webcam

Pros: Everything else worked fine.

Cons: The webcam only works properly in fluorescent light. This is well documented on HP's support forums. Just do a Google search. In all other light types you get a purple to black and white effect. Completely unappealing and a sadly overlooked problem with these laptops.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh performance at bargain price

Pros: This is refurb machine with sub $1k price. Full HD display, full size keyboard that has great tactile feel. Regular web surfing makes the internal fan kick on at low speed, is really quiet. Gaming with Half Life 2, Quake 4 and the like is flawless. Runs Debian Linux without problems - 4830 display card, wireless, function keys, backlight control work. Ambient light sensor ignored in Linux. This lappy matches the pictures in this listing, laser engravings. External DVD burner uses only one USB port, and has USB hub in the back of it.

Cons: Power supply is a monster brick, will not fit in a slim laptop bag. Only 2 USB 2.0 ports, and they're too close together - a single wide device prevents the other port from being used. Light use results in about 2 hours battery life, not unexpected for the Core i7 in this beast.

Other Thoughts: Beats speakers are nothing special, overhyped. Not a single dead or screwy pixel on the display. Only one minor scuff mark on the front two corners, bottom side and I almost didn't see them. Everything else looked brand new. No USB 3 ports, keyboard not backlit. Unit is pretty light to carry around. Handbrake blazes through video transcoding to iPod MP4. At this price it's a steal, would buy another if I could afford it.
