4 out of 5 eggsDecent laptop with some strange quirks

Pros: Very large screen, good performance for internet browsing and work

Cons: - Eight of the keys (letters, punctuation) are misplaced on the keyboard. Because I am a proficient typist I usually don't notice, but it could be extremely problematic for someone less proficient at typing.
- The space bar key can be sticky at times.
- The computer often gives me electric shocks while I am working. The shocks are borderline painful.
- It does not come with the Microsoft Office Suite preinstalled. Instead, it comes with a "Starter" version with limited features and ads.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Relatively lightweight, good keyboard layout, ports have easy access. It's been very fast and easy to work with, and I use it every day for work. It's perfect for watching movies/TV on or split-screening documents and webpages while I'm working. I might overtax it sometimes, but it's always been up to the challenge. The fingerprint-proof pattern on the body is amazingly nice, as well.

Cons: Every once in a while, the CPU gets a bit overtaxed, and I have to calm it down a bit. Lately, it's been running a bit hot, so I can't have it directly on my lap anymore, but that's just a minor annoyance. The hard drive did just die for no apparent reason, which is not okay, and I don't know why it did that, but it would still boot perfectly fine if it could actually find the hard drive connection, it looks like.

Other Thoughts: Overall, even though it just died on me, if I can't find a replacement hard drive that is cheaper than getting the actual computer again, I won't hesitate to get another one. It's one of the best computers I've own in a long time.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Computer - shoddy recertification

Pros: Gorgeous screen, roomy keyboard, fast CPU and plenty of RAM for everyday use. I bought this for my 60-something mother and she absolutely loves it.

Cons: DDR2 Ram (should have read the specs more closely, so no markdown for that)

More importantly, the computer came with the keyboard all messed up. The 8 key was where the 9 should be and numerous keys fall off with very light use. It literally looks like they took random keys from different computers and put them all on one keyboard. They are all crooked and out of alignment and pop off very easily. I really expected some better quality control from both NewEgg and HP.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Gorgeous screen, wireless-n, dual-core 2.3 GHz... there are few everyday computing tasks I throw at it that it doesn't take like a champ.

The keyboard is quite roomy, and does not feel like a laptop keyboard at all. The numberpad is a great addition, although I've gotten so used to not having one on a laptop I've yet to really take advantage of it.

The hard drive is pretty quick for a 5400rpm drive, and has plenty of room for a portable computer. I have multiple seasons of HD TV shows on it and it's not even half-full.

Pretty solid construction. The plastic doesn't feel cheap, and the texture of the case is pretty pleasing. No worries about fingerprints with this laptop.

Cons: This may be an issue of personal preference, but I really dislike the touchpad. It has a single bar for both right- and left-clicking, and the boundaries of the actual pad are not marked in any way. The entire area below the keyboard is the same texture - I've had some problems "losing" the pad, especially since it's off-center.

Also, this thing gets pretty hot - enough that it's uncomfortable to rest on your lap after about an hour of movie-watching or gaming. Which leads me to the next con...

The built-in (Intel) graphics are pretty terrible. I don't know the specifics, but I would not trust this laptop to run anything newer than about 2006 above 10-15 fps. League of Legends works fine on low to mid settings as long as you disable shadows, and games like Torchlight run okay (~20 fps, as long as there aren't too many things on the screen). Don't get this laptop if you plan on gaming and don't have anything better to do it on.

Other Thoughts: I was lucky and got this for about $380 on sale here. I'm not sure I would pay $550 for it, just because of the atrocious integrated graphics.

There's no webcam, in case that sort of thing matters to you.

Battery life has been pretty outstanding for such a large laptop: around 4 hours watching video with wireless disabled and brightness turned all the way down. This will vary, but it's pretty decent as far as I'm concerned.

The speakers are pretty quiet, in my opinion, but there are always headphones.

When I first got it, it had some BIOS setting enabled that forced you to press the Fn key to use the F keys instead of the brightness, volume, and playback controls. It's called "Action Keys Mode" under System Configuration, in case you don't like this feature.

The BIOS is pretty limited, but that's not an issue for an everyday laptop like this one.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop

Pros: Really good laptop. has a huge screen and it has the number pad. RAM could be a little higher but it works.

Cons: The touchpad is not centered or inlayed but not too big of a problem.

Other Thoughts: thinking about buying a wireless mouse.

5 out of 5 eggslove this wee beastie!!

Pros: Price point was perfect. Wonderful size for the work I do, I frequently have two docs side by side. Easily customized, games well for what i do, comfortable key board, has everything i needed built in including SD card drive. My old Office key went right to work. Shipping was perfect. Excellent speed.

Cons: Cosmetic only: The silver finish shows wear quickly on the edges of the top and back. A new bag may solve further rub marks. My old one is a little tight. No S video out which means i will have to adapt the VGA or HDMI in one location I work to their 27"JVC monitor. Still working with HP to get a correct date on the Warranty.

Other Thoughts: I am an older person and use this as my prime computer. I travel constantly and this is my link to the net through email and face book. Does everything well. I use third party print services on line or on site without difficulty. I have put it through it's paces and have yet to lock it up. Others have mentioned "bloatware". Can't see it is a problem. I did uninstall Norton and installed AVG.

Many kudos to newegg for their site construction and ease of use. This was my first major purchase on line, ever. It went very well from research, to selection, to arrival of product. I am quite happy

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great for what it's used for

Pros: Runs just fine for everything my wife uses it for. Quickbooks, Word, Excel and Firefox for web browsing. Great deal for the price.

Cons: Keyboard and mouse is not centered. All of my other laptops have the keyboard and mouse centered on the screen. This device has them slightly left. Going to take some getting used to.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Big high resolution screen. 1600x900. Good for photoshop and writing code.

Cons: CD-rom drive not sturdy as it makes a snapping sound when I pick up the laptop from right edge.

Other Thoughts: great value for a 17 inch laptop. Not too portable as it's long and wide, but it's slim for a 17 inch.

It's a refrub so remember that it only has a 90 day warranty. If you're a bit technical, sometimes a fix is just replacing bad ram so who cares about a warranty

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Looks Great, High Definition Resolution, Light Weight, Number Pad, Perfect for the average student or internet browser.

Cons: Not worth the list price. I got it on sale for 389.99 and ordered another 2gb stick of ram to have 4 total for 419.99. Don't pay a dime more, its not worth it. Get a 15" screen with better specs. Low Gaming Performance.
