4 out of 5 eggsOverall Pretty Good

Pros: Really Amazing sound

Freaking huge screen (glossy, but still pretty crisp)

Touchpad works (unlike the Dv6 series)

Fingerprint reader is a nice touch

The HP ProtectSmart for the HDD where it takes the needle off if being dropped has saved my HDD way more than one time.

Dedicated graphics is awesome, Can actually play game like Diablo III with graphics pretty high and still get 60 FPS

Cons: Plastic around the edges of the bottom half of the laptop have chipped away after about a year

When I got it the keyboard has never sat right, doesn't really affect anything but you can push it down where it should be on the upper left

Linux, no matter what, will not run on this machine. I love linux I spent weeks trying to no avail.

Webcam only okay

Really heavy

Other Thoughts: Over all this is an amazing laptop, just don't buy if you ever want to install linux. And moderate gaming is pretty good, at least for the price that is!

5 out of 5 eggsNext day and Rush is Useless

Pros: Its a fantastic Lap top ... W E I =

CPU 6.2
Ram 7.1
Desk top video 6.2
3D Business and gaming 6.2
and the hard drive is 5.9

Will Play Crysis on High Settings when in Crossfire.
It plays pretty well.
IT has APU Graphics as well as the 6750 Dedicated Graphics that CAN BE used in CROSS FIRE...

Cons: NOT 1920 X 1080 or blu-ray BUT I can upgrade to blu-ray myself for about $100 from here ..Beats Audio is nice .... Original Operating system has TONS of Bloat Ware SOO.. I wiped the HD and installed a Clean windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit NOTE... H.P. Support HAS ALL needed drivers NOTE IF you install a clean OS you will likely discover missing SM Bus and USB drivers missing .... These are In the VIDEO DRIVER downloads from H.P. SUPPORT website. USE first then go to AMD to update video drivers after the SM BUS and USB drivers are installed. <<<<< VERY HANDY STUFF RIGHT THERE. Has more drivers than you probably want BUT HP has all you will need. IT has Beats audio and the drivers are the "IDT Audio".

I will purchase a SSD and see how that works out

Other Thoughts: I have used this to edit video with Power director 9 Ultra 64 and for a lap top its fantastic. Has HDMI out...

I build, sell and repair PC and this is my portable workhorse I take everywhere. Holds all my software tools and my crazy driver data base Windows 7 can search and find its own drivers ... It kinda fixes itself. I even have drivers as far back as windows 95 (Separate folder) BUT HEY ya never know what ya might need...

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Midrange Laptop

Pros: Brushed aluminum is rugged and looks sharp. Overall build quality is impressive, and I anticipate this notebook to hold up to years of abuse. AMD APU and GPU configuration options are currently somewhat limited, but I expect this to change with updates. A secondary hard drive caddy is available, and just requires the cable which can be had from HP or another merchant. Battery life is amazing, at 8 hours or more for general computing activities.

In regards to gaming I can play Mass Effect and Modern Warfare 2 fluently on mid to high settings at native resolution. This doesn’t seem to tax the system too much, which makes me think the hardware could be pushed a bit harder.

GCC/G++ compilation times under Debian Linux are comparable to a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Quad CPU.

Cons: - Hard drive indicator light should be front facing, rather than on the side.

- BIOS Blacklisting of alternative WIFI modules is a disappointment.

Other Thoughts: RT5390 wireless works out of the box in Linux with kernel 3.x. Basic video support out of the box in Linux can be hit or miss. Download the driver package from AMD, and as long as you can reach a command line you can install it quite easily and reboot.

When performing a fresh Windows system installation you need to use the Catalyst install package from HP to get the USB 3.x and SM Bus drivers. Choose custom and only install these items. This way you can then download the latest Catalyst package directly from AMD for the most up to date video drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Laptop

Pros: Overall great laptop, works well with Windows.
Plays Rage just fine at native resolution.
Really long battery life, I haven't run it down all the way yet so I don't have exact numbers.
Easy to upgrade the hard drive and RAM.
There is an extra hard drive bay. The extra mounting shell is present but no extra cable. I'm guessing it is possible to order this from HP.
The graphics cards work fine in Linux if you use the proprietary drivers (tested on Mageia 1 and Fedora 15). A reboot is required to switch between them. No crossfire support in Linux that I am aware of.

Cons: The HP display drivers are old. You can't use the drivers from AMD's website without some serious difficulty. Display driver from Windows update is current and works well (the only way I could get Rage to work).
Wireless doesn't work at all in Mageia 1 Linux. Wired networking drops out all the time in Mageia and Fedora. This is not a problem in Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: HP only has drivers for Windows 7 64 bit.
AMD Fusion APU has the ability to run much faster with some help.
