5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so great!

Pros: -Specs vs. price
-Screen quality
-Biometrics
-USB 3.0
-Dedicated/switchable graphics
-Sleek exterior
-Nice keyboard
-Battery life is above average when not gaming

Cons: -HardDrive is a bit slow, but whatevs
-Speakers

Other Thoughts: I could have easily rated this laptop a 4 out of 5 eggs, but i went with a 5 out of 5 to negate the 2 egg review given by someone who clearly knows nothing about computers.

2 out of 5 eggsWorth it and not worth it

Pros: Fingerprint reader is nice, nice display, nice keyboard, nice audio.

Cons: Same as everyone else! The speaker piece looks to be as if it is detaching from the laptop. Most of the reviews on here have this problem.

Also others also have this problem. The palm rest is sloped down and not flush with the frame of the laptop and really bugs you.

Keyboard collects dust

Other Thoughts: Overall, if it didnt have its defects it is WELL worth it. But many people have these problems. I contacted customer support and they said 24-34 days in total to get it replaced/fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Laptop for the Price!

Pros: Graphics Card
2nd Gen Core i5
Pretty much all alumminum case
Beautiful 1080P screen
USB 3.0
Beats Audio
Decently light weight
nice to look at

Cons: No back light on the keyboard
huge power brick
Hard drive speed is a little slow.

Other Thoughts: This is my first review and I gotta say, This Laptop is fantastic! For the price newegg is selling it for, this thing is a steal! After I replaced the internal hard drive with a Solid State Drive (which i bought from newegg) this thing flys! It handles all the games i throw at it and asks for more! A little bit of HP bloatware which is easily removeable but i love the fingerprint reader. makes logging in to anything a breeze. Very highly recommended!

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the BUCK - READ

Pros: -Excellent Hardware (i5, 1333 mem bus, very good vid card 7690xt)
-Excellent Monitor (Bright, crisp, non-glare)
-Capable gaming machine (Graphics switching WORKS you just have to understand how to configure it to your liking/needs, just GOOGLE it!)
-Good Battery Life
-Decent speakers (not amazing)
-Sturdy build, brushed metal is a great finish
-Good responsive keyboard, + a 10key!

$720? Yeah.. i bought 2.

Cons: -Bad wifi card (N Centrino 1030). I purchased 2 of these laptops, both had wifi problems out of the box. HP Chat support was quick to send out a replacement wifi card after they confirmed i had ran through the troubleshooting, overall positive experience with support. Signal is better, it isnt great, and is still unstable at any kind of distance

-Bloatware. You will need to reformat or use the minimal install disc in the box.

-annoying HP light on the front. Cant disable it.

Other Thoughts: Im completely in love with the monitor. Works great. Wish HP wouldnt ship these things with notoriously bad wifi cards.

1 mem chip is 4gb @ 1333, and the other is a 2gb chip at 1600? Not a big deal at all, just found that strange.

Access to internal components is screwdriver-less to open it up which is nice.

5 out of 5 eggsWell done Hp, Well done.

Pros: I love this laptop. It's everything I have been looking at for and more! I upgraded from a 4yr old Compaq presario and wow, what a difference!
First off, the build quality overall is great! It feels very sturdy when I'm typing, and the keys on the keyboard are very quick and responsive. Having the number pad is also a big plus! The touch pad for the laptop is one of the best I've experienced! Although 2-finger scrolling takes some practice.
The beats audio sound coming from the computer is better than average. Where it really hits home is when you plug in a pair of i-beats... WOW!!
The laptop is fast too, with the i5 2450m processor being a great one! 6gb of ram is plenty for virtually anything you do, even heavy gaming performs well with 6gb. And lastly the graphics card is better than expected. I can run games like Risen, GTA 4, Ego Draconis, and Wow at High settings with a solid 40-60fps depending on the game.
Overall an excellent pc for only $720! Should be worth $900 imo.

Cons: There were only a few things that really stood out to me about the laptop.
The first being that the chrome strip near the top that houses the speakers with the HP logo on it isn't flush up against the rest of the laptop all the way across. It barely gaps on the edges. Just an aesthetic quality I noticed. No biggie really.
The second is the fingerprint reader. It seems to work perfectly until I restart the computer. But I probably haven't really figured out how to get the best results either.
The fans on the laptop are not to say noisy, but constant. If I'm on the Radeon graphics and not the intel one, most of the time the fans are running. They aren't very loud though, and I'm sure it's just because of Hp's coolsense technology, Because the laptop is always cool enough. It's a good thing the laptop stays constantly cool, just a personal preference. I prefer absolute silence.
Switchable graphics are also a pain. Just download the latest HP BIOS and turn them from dynamic to fixed.

Other Thoughts: Also if you are carrying the laptop without a sleeve to put it in, the screen doesn't "stick" to the base of the laptop. It flops around a little.

5 out of 5 eggsCorrections

Pros: Upon further use, frame rates seem to have increased. It runs Starcraft 2 on medium at around 75 FPS, high at 50-60 FPS, and ultra at around 25 FPS. All of these are on 1920X1080 resolution (which looks great). Additionally, I am not sure why people are complaining about the battery life. Sure, if you are gaming, it will only last an hour or so. However, under normal internet usage, it seems to consistently last for me a good 5 to 6 hours, just as was advertised. The sound is nice and loud, but it is not ridiculously amazing. The touchpad has a great feel, and the mouse buttons are exactly as I would have hoped.

Cons: The zero key on my numberpad is a bit louder than the others and is a bit flimsy. That is literally my only complaint besides the standard annoyance of bloatware.

Other Thoughts: I still do not understand why this laptop is so cheap. It almost exactly the same thing as an ENVY 15, but it doesn't have the problem with the reds on the screen. Seriously, if you need an all-purpose laptop that looks and feels great while still performing well on games, look no further.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop - quirky, but ignore the complaints.

Pros: This is a great laptop and an awesome deal. You're probably looking at this because of the specs, and it doesn't disappoint. Graphics are fast - I played Skyrim on High settings with 4xaa 16xaf 1920x1080, looks fantastic and it's mostly smooth. Battery life is good, it's absolutely beautiful, sound is nice, and it's not very heavy. Also, ignore the complaints. Most people are saying the switchable graphics don't work well - I haven't had that problem. I immediately chose to go into the BIOS and change from Dynamic (automatically switches) to Fixed. After that, right click on the Desktop and click Switchable Graphics, and then set it to High Performance. It doesn't hurt battery life as much as you'd think, and the graphics are great. Even using this on my fabric couch while using the AMD GPU doesn't result in it running hot unless in heavy gaming, which common sense says not to do! Mine had the 7690M XT as well, which is an upclocked 7690M and better than the advertised specs.

Cons: The arrow keys on the keyboard are small - the up/down buttons split the amount of space usually used by one key. See the pics for details. It's an annoyance in a computer with a gaming graphics card, since laptops are for portability & you don't always have a gamepad. Also, I'll probably be the only person who doesn't want a 1920x1080p resolution monitor, but I don't like it on a screen this small. My last monitor was 1280x800 and I didn't notice pixelation unless I looked for it... I don't like how small things are with high resolution on a small screen & I'm not old - I'm 22 with good vision! Yes, the laptop did come with a lot of bloatware, to the point that the "mess" gave me a bit of anxiety, haha. Reformatting really isn't necessary, just uninstall the stuff - it will take less time than reformatting, windows updates, and reinstalling all the drivers/needed software. I almost took an egg off for that, but every laptop has bloatware. Also, mine sleeps fine, ignore that complaint.

Other Thoughts: Beats Audio - It doesn't really fit as a pro or a con. It does sound better than any other laptop speakers I've heard, but my experience is limited. I'm not an audiophile, but I expected more bass in an audio system called "Beats". I know the weakness is HP's speakers in this laptop, not the software. I've heard Beats headphones, and they sound fantastic, so it's the implementation in laptops that is somewhat overrated. A couple otherzhelp to know - The F1-F12 keys operate backwards. If you're changing volume, screen brightness, etc. You press them WITHOUT the Fn key. To use it as the actual F1-F12 key, you press Fn. For example, Alt + F4 to close an application is Alt + Fn + F4. You can change this in the BIOS by disabling "Action Key Mode". For HP apps, I uninstalled all but 3D Driveguard, Coolsense, On Screen Display, Power Manager, Quick Launch, Quickweb, SimplePass, and Software Framework. All hardware functions still work. Remove 3rd party apps as desired.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is an absolutely amazing deal

Pros: The screen is beautiful. This is NOT the screen from the Envy 15 that has problems with reds. Even with a 5400 rpm HD, it boots very quickly. Wonderful island-style keyboard and a nicely placed trackpad with a very nice feel. On Starcraft 2, it will run full 1080 at full ultra graphics settings at about 22 FPS. That is not really playable. At high, it will run about 33-40 FPS, which is playable. At medium, it will run about 60 FPS, which is smooth as can be. Of course, the resolution can be turned down in game to increase these frame rates. I literally do not have a single complaint about this laptop.

Cons: A backlit keyboard would certainly be nice, but I'm not about to complain.

Other Thoughts: I built this EXACT laptop on hp's site just for grins. Before shipping and tax, it costs $1009.99. I am not kidding. For $720, buy it in a heartbeat.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop, but minor problems prevent a 5-egg

Pros: The laptop is excellent on paper. I have looked all around the internet for a laptop with this high performance at such a low price, and it really cannot be beat (at the time of this review). The graphics card can be overclocked if necessary and can run almost everything you throw at it (new games need to be tuned down, but that can be expected). The high-resolution screen looks vivid and has more-than-acceptable viewing angles. After owning a Macbook for the past five years, the chicklet keyboard came naturally and was very comfortable.

The build quality is excellent in most areas, although getting to the internal components can be a challenge for beginners wishing to upgrade or add parts, or apply thermal paste.

Cons: The build quality is also, however, lacking in some areas. The plastic near the speaker above the keyboard is partially warped on one end, leaving a gap between the speaker and plastic. Other than that, build quality is solid.

The switchable graphics cards and lack of driver support leaves something to be desired. On "dynamic" mode (changed in the BIOS), the graphics card does not seem to switch as often as I would like. When running Portal 2, it did not switch at all. When I changed this to "fixed", I now have to change between the two manually but no longer encounter this problem.

The sleep/hibernate feature works sometimes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have searched for solutions but all come up with nothing that works permanently. When sleep mode doesn't work, the computer freezes for up to 10 minutes before displaying a blue screen which states that there is a problem with a driver. All of my drivers are up to date, so the problem remains unsolved.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it's a great laptop for the price ($720 on sale, $750 regularly). The minor problems add up, and prevent me from giving this laptop 5 eggs. If HP updated their drivers then maybe some of my problems might be fixed, but some haven't been updated in many months. Unofficial drivers do exist, but I have yet to try them. Also, be aware of the bloatware. Luckily, HP offers a "recovery" partition that allows you to do a clean install with the exception of the drivers that HP deems to be essential (upon a clean install from a Windows 7 disc, the wireless card and ports were unrecognized, leaving me unable to install the drivers I had put on a external harddrive).

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice valued laptop

Pros: Started it up and loved it since, Good CPU, Good Hard drive, Good RAM, Good Graphics Card.
Very nice touch to it, it looks very fancy and expensive laptop. Battery lasts for a very long time even if you set everything at max performance.
Also one thing I loved that it had 2x 2.0 usb's and 2x 3.0's... Fingerscan to login was amazing, never gave me hardtime

Cons: ONLY THING I HATED ABOUT IT IS THE GRAPHIC CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was perfect laptop for everything, but dam if the card had worked... freaking switchable graphics totally SUCK!!! I tried my best to make it focus on dedicated card, but I think card might have been defective. It ran average game on only 10-15 FPS when it should be running it at 40-50 because the graphic card IS REALLY GOOD, apparently switchable graphics or the card was just defective...

Other Thoughts: I returned this laptop due to the graphic card not working, and AMD's Switchable graphic's.... I am looking into Nvidia now... but can't find a perfect laptop like this one :(((
