3 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Powerful processor and graphics card
Excellent for gaming and high performance tasks
Very sturdy and aesthetically appealing
Great keyboard and sound

Cons: Heats up very quickly
Very thick and heavy
Price was great for performance, but not for durability

Caution: Ultrabooks generally last 3 years. It is very expensive to replace/repair the motherboard or a video card for this product. I could build a modern gaming desktop with the same money. Only buy an ultrabook if you will be moving around and want a high performance computer. Otherwise, customizing your own desktop is the way to go.

Dell was very unhelpful with finding ways to repair or salvage the computer. The video processor on my motherboard burned out in three years just after the warranty wore out. My brother purchased the same laptop at the same time and his video processor also burned out. When a computer costs this much, I expected better durability or customer service. In short, I was happy with the computer's performance, but very unhappy with the expensive paperweight I have now. The RAM, video card, and HDD are still re-useable however.

Other Thoughts: It was a great product while it lasted, but it did not make it past my 3 year warranty. Be warned, high performance ultrabooks wear out faster than ordinary notebooks. To repair or replace parts is very costly as well. This experience has led me to ultimately decide that I will no longer buy an Alienware ultrabook again, unless I have money lying around.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent laptop DO NOT EVER USE DRIVER CD!

Pros: Bought this off of the alienware website with the i7 840QM, 8gb DDR3, and the NVIDIA 260m graphics card. Games run amazingly on this laptop! I play Starcraft 2 on ultra in full 1080p without a hickup, eve online runs on full too and Dead space 2 looks so much better than on my xbox. It feels expensive, the keyboard is a pleasure to type on, alien fx is cool (if it actually worked) borderless 1080p screen is unbelievably clear and crisp.

Cons: Alienware's "resource CD" will nuke your mobo if you install the Alien FX from there. I spent the better part of a day talking to Alienware aka "Dell customer support", I always got someone in india or something who barely had command of the english language! I ended up havng to pay for a new motherboard as the firmware becomes "corrupted" if you install anything but the newest version of Alien Command Center, and apparently the only way to fix this is total replacement. Absolutely rediculous if you ask me. I payed for the best, not this...

Other Thoughts: Amazing performance in games. As others have stated the HDD is slow, surprising as it's 7200rpm, easily remedied though, I popped a 128gb SSD in there and used the stock 500gb HDD as external storage for media, I now score a 7.2 in WEI instead of 5.9 with the stock HDD.

2 out of 5 eggsOverpriced for Performance

Pros: Improved the sturdiness over the old M15x design. Looks good.

Cons: Does not perform anywhere near expectations given the tech specs. Running iTunes and a web browser at the same time seems to confuse this computer, even after killing most background tasks.
And don't expect to watch videos thru Hulu or Netflix, it crashes with the former and is choppy for the latter. Game performance is "somewhat" better but I expected marked improvement over my old 8800GTX alienware M15x. The alienware Respawn and Login functions are junk as well.

Other Thoughts: When is alienware going to realize that their proprietary bloat software kills the functionality and alienates (no pun intended) its consumer base of high performance users!!
Thinking of doing a clean OS install, but this is my last "stock" buy.

5 out of 5 eggsM15x

Pros: This computer is absolutely amazing. it runs everything so well and fast. all the games ive tried on it run perfectly(Resident evil 5 maz settings80+ fps if u dont set fps at 60) left for dead 2 no problem easily over.

Cons: there are only 3 usb ports which could be a little low. first and second startup were slow so was the first shutdown(but other times were really fast. aliensense is kind of a joke but no1 really uses that anyways

Other Thoughts: all in all this laptop really fabulous im glad i bought it, it was worth ever penny!!

2 out of 5 eggsPerforms well but

Pros: I've owned this computer for ten months. Got it off of Alienware's site with similar specs. The computer has torn through everything I've thrown at it.

Cons: This laptop has been serviced over 14 times in the past 10 months. Dell's technical support is terrible. Takes a few times for them to send the right part. I've had problems with the screen, mother board, touch pad, over heating issues, and graphics card. Dell's on site technicians are an absolute nightmare. Most of them broke the computer even more after "fixing" it. They are careless, you are better off fixing the laptop yourself.

Other Thoughts: I absolutely regret spending $2100+ for this laptop. Even at $1400 I probably wouldn't buy it. Don't get me wrong, it puts out amazing performance but it breaks way too often. If it's not one thing, it is the other. I can not recommend this laptop because of the terrible technical support.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing laptop.... with a few flaws.

Pros: (1) Blazing fast (with the spec, no need for further elaboration). Do support DX11.
(2) Most fancy packaging I've ever seen. Owner's instruction manual actually comes with leather cover.
(3) Most solid build I've ever seen. The external frame is actually metallic (probably aluminum). The finishing is sleak. The overall quality feels expensive. I can guarantee the product won't feel cheap.
(4) Comes with dual fan design, and that's why it runs very cool.
(5) Backlight is also extremely fancy. Allows changing of color theme too.
(6) Screen is 1600 by 900. I put this as a pro because it's the sharpest screen on any laptop I've own. It's unfortunately the higher grade screen (true 1080p) is not offered here at newegg. It is however available at alienware's own website.
(7) Price. I bought this during the president's day sale that knocks off an addition $200 from the price tag.

Cons: (1) HD is slow. Scores only 5.9 in windows 7. I will need to find out how to check if the HD is 7200 rpm or only 5400 rpm.
(2) Slow boot. When in windows, everything is blazing fast. For some unknown reason, it is slow to boot up the computer.
(3) Driver support. You can only use the driver from Dell's own website. Dell's ATI VGA driver is dated Sep 20. THAT IS A 6 MONTH OLD.
(4) I got a squeaky key (backspace). It's functioning, but it's really annoying. Will contact Dell to get a new keyboard send out to me.
(5) Speaker. Well, it's normal. Not impressive at all. It sounded fairly hollow. I wished they invest some money in the speaker, being that this brand charges a premium over brands for other equivalent grade product.

(6) Heavier than other 15". However, it's due to a solid build.

(7) 6 cell battery = short battery life. However, due to dual fan design and big heat sink. Need room for airflow and that space has to come from somewhere.

Other Thoughts: Overall I love this item. I got this when there was a sale, so I paid much less than the MSRP price. Alienware is in fact expensive, however, you will feel it's worth it to pay a premium. It's like buying a BMW, while you can get an equivalent in performance from Honda. You are paying for the luxury brand, and the extra physical quality. The cons (6) and (7) is not exactly true con.

It's heavy, but because it's very solidly build. It definitely don't feel cheap or flimsy at all.

Since it's a gaming laptop, you can't exactly blame it for a short battery life. You can argue it's due to a 6 cell battery. As mentioned above, this has a dual fan design. You need space for air to flow and to keep cool. This is a laptop and space has to come from some where. Add this feature at the expense of others. So, the space has to come from the battery.

1 out of 5 eggsMajor Dell warranty issues

Pros: It was fantastic for about 45 minutes. I was loving it. Much nicer than my previous two gaming laptops. A Dell Inspiron 9300 and Gateway 6860. Was also cheaper.

Cons: My hard drive died within an hour. Newegg recommended I call Dell. I called Dell and spent a total of 4 1/2 hours (three calls) with Dell trying to get the hard drive and warranty issue resolved. Dell tech couldn't get their system to process support call. There was some big issue with who I bought the M15x from and warranty. Dell tech finally had "special team" put laptop under my name. I had to put another support call to get warranty date corrected.

Other Thoughts: The laptop is a 5 egg but the hard drive issue and the hassle of trying to resolve an underlying warranty issue between Newegg and Dell makes this purchase a big zero.

I still don't know 100% if the warranty issue has been resolved. They were going to send out a tech for on-site support but they couldn't. The best they could do was exchange the drive and I replace it.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Gaming Laptop

Pros: fast gaming machine
Real nice fit and finish
very nice display
Adjustable backlight colors are quite impressive
Best deal on this laptop is here on Newegg.
Seems to manage heat well.
comes with a cool hat.

Cons: I fear having to deal with dell support.
Disk performance is not on par with the rest of the machine, but still quite acceptable.
speakers are so/so so get some headphones.
I cant cant get girls to talk to me with this hat on.

Other Thoughts: If this is your price point, I think you will hard pressed to find a nicer laptop that performs better. its the 1600X900 display (which I prefer) and the hard disk is 5400rpm
Dirt2, BFBC2, and Crysis warhammer all run quite well at max resolution / max settings. I dont have any games that choke it.
