2 out of 5 eggsIt's... okay.

Pros: It was pretty quick when it was first given to me. My mother had it for a while, and passed it down for my birthday. It's got a big, nice screen and the graphics works decently for how low it is. It's also very good with wear and tear. Webcam is also pretty decent.

Cons: Overheats way too often. The only reason I got the laptop was because after two months of having it, my mother couldn't turn it on anymore without it blue screening and starting over the process of turning on. Windows was corrupted. Fans don't work very well. I re-did windows, and it never installed with a wifi adapter so I've had to buy an external USB one.

Other Thoughts: Honestly, it's a good beginner laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsNot as advertised

Pros: Would be a great price, assuming the specs were correct.

Cons: As the other reviewer pointed out, the item says "HDD 7200rpm" in the title, but when you actually buy the laptop and view the model number of the hard drive in the Windows device manager it's not a 7200 RPM drive!

Other Thoughts: After emailing twice about this - no response from newegg. Strange that the specs are still wrong and the item is now in the emails about daily deals! A laptop is a big purchase for most people, so correct specs are important!

1 out of 5 eggsThis laptop does not have a 7200RPM hard drive (as it is currently advertised)

Pros: Lots of memory
USB 3.0
Doesn't have a costly graphics card for people who aren't gamers

Cons: I suggested to my father that he purchase this computer since it seemed to have a lot of "extra goodies", as another reviewer pointed out. Unfortunately, the advertised 7200rpm hard drive is not one of them. My father was complaining that Windows was taking as long as always to boot, and so I looked at the hard drive. It turns out to be a 5400rpm Scorpio Blue (WD7500BPVT).

Dell customer support refused to help since I did not buy it through Dell. They told me they are aware the drive on this model is 5400RPM and blamed Newegg for the misinformation.

Newegg customer support looked into it and agreed that it was indeed being wrongly advertised as having a 7200RPM hard drive. They had no explanation other than to blame Dell.

The only remedy Newegg gave me was to return it to them for a refund.

Other Thoughts: Feeling like a chump.

5 out of 5 eggsExceptional support from Dell

Pros: I didn't buy mine from Newegg - which is odd in itself because I get most of my technology from Newegg due to their great prices and service.

This time I bought a Dell N5010 with an i3-370m, 6gb and 320gb from a big box store on a one day sale for $250. But I got what I paid for - a broken laptop.

One call to Dell and they had a tech with new motherboard at my house 2 days later. When that didn't fix the problem, the tech came back the next day with a new daughter board and battery. That seemed to fix the original problem but a day later it would no longer boot to windows and would not re-install from the recovery disks I had made.

Another phone call to Dell involving about a half hour of do this, try that, to no avail. And then the good news - I would be getting a replacement.

5 days later the replacement arrives - a Dell N5150 with the i5-2430, 8gb, 750gb hd, and including a full license for Office 2010 Home and Student (not a trial, but not the 3-peat either).

Cons: As mentioned in the review of the other N5150 sold by newegg, changing the hard drive is a pain. I watched the first tech remove a zillion screws, the palm rest and the keyboard just to get to the hard drive so he could remove it and replace the motherboard. I don't mind the screws, but those fragile ribbon connectors bother me some. Dell has complete illustrated instructions on their web site for those who want to do it themselves.

Other Thoughts: I stop buying Dell products several years ago because of the horrible support. Apparently there has been a big change in the support policy and services. In fact, when I realized the original laptop had a problem my first thought was to just return it to the big box store to avoid the anticipated hassle with Dell support. Even if I had not received a substantial upgrade as a replacement I would still be very impressed with the new Dell support.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems like a Great Laptop

Pros: Good looks and weight. Lots of 'extra goodies' for the price (8GB, 7200RPM, HDMI, etc.). Uses barrel-style 19.5V Dell Power supply that is compatible with last year's model.

Cons: Area around mouse has to be wiped a lot to stay shiny. Slight rattle from caps lock when typing. On the software side, Dell remains up to its old tricks: prepare to un-install a bunch of trial software and other junk (An EXE installed to launch e bay...really?!). No OS media included, but you can use Windows backup to create a system image and repair disc.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for development with Visual Studio/SQL
Server. Seems to run both just fine. Windows experience scores are all very high (6.3 - 7.4) except for the hard drive which is 5.9. The day after I bought this the price went up - search for those promo codes!
