1 out of 5 eggsSucked - a total ripoff DO NOT BUY

Pros: I saw no pros on this product except for the price it was being offerred and after having used it, I understood the reason for its price.

Cons: The laptop started giving me problem from the second week. It screen got stuck while I was doing my office work and I had to restart the pc losing my one hour of work. The battery notified me on week 3 about critically low, consider changing your battery warning. I had to use it like a desktop for that day by plugging it to a power source. And the screen freeze happened two more times on the fourth week and I recorded that to show it to newegg people what defective pieces are on sale on the site. The product description did not say it was a refurbished piece but worked worse than that. On top of this when I called Newegg for a refund they said I can only get replacement or store credit. Here's the cache now - Replacement I asked are u kidding me ? I will never buy a Dell again. Store credit has hitches - if you do not have the packing they will keep 15% of the price. Can you believe that 15% !! Luckily I'm a hoarder and dont throw stuff away. But I am very very unsatisfied with Dell.

Other Thoughts: These are lessons learnt: 1) Read the policies (Refund, Store Credit, Keep Packaging etc etc) (2) Don't buy Dell (3) Don't buy laptops because of low price on cyber monday deals (4) Newegg simply did not give me the customer experience when I explained I did not like any product on their site since I want to buy a mac book and get rid of the head ache but I'm stuck with store credit which Im still waiting to receive

3 out of 5 eggsGood while it last.

Pros: Really fast and was able to do what I needed a laptop for.
I'm a digital artist and it did well with photoshop and got a commission done. Also a gamer and it ran Skyrim smoothly too.

Cons: The one I got was a lemon. The screed froze and than started blue screening. The hard drive was just going psycho. A huge downer for me.

Other Thoughts: Didn't get to really enjoy the laptop. The one I got turn out to be a lemon. That did cause a huge headache/problem to me. Now I have to get a new laptop again and falling more behind on my artwork.
My old laptop just went down hill which cause me into buying this one, but dang it! Just having the worst luck right now.
I try to get a replacement but sadly when the laptop got back to Newegg they were out of stock which than turn into a refund. Now I'm computer-less once again. But Newegg were really good about working with me about this huge mess. Now I'm back to getting a new laptop. If anything I may just buy this one again, just prey its no a lemon!!

5 out of 5 eggsworks great, great price

Pros: grabbed this and added 8gb ram, great laptop, nice and fast

Cons: seems like all dell does these days is find bloatware to put on these things... and make affordable laptops

4 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: A pretty good computer. You can switch the lids. Great for basic computing. Very shiny. Lightweight for the size.

Cons: Preinstalled Dell bloatware is terrible. As other reviewers have noted, you need to take apart the entire machine to remove the HDD. Also the optical drive is very loud. Fortunately for me, the HDD is sufficient for my needs, and I rarely use the optical drive. For others, though, these may be dealbreakers.

Other Thoughts: First thing I did was create a partition for Linux, which runs great with the hardware. I kept Windows for light gaming, which it does OK, just don't expect to be running BF3 on this. I got this during the November sale, but I don't think I would buy one at full price. Overall, I am happy with this machine.

3 out of 5 eggsvga port useless

Pros: Cheap price... fast i5

Cons: The vga port for hooking up a second monitor is sunk too far into the plastic housing. Vga male cable barely is long enough to connect properly. The if you touch it at all it comes loose

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP!

Pros: Shiny! Removable lid.

Cons: DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP!

Spend your money on something else better for the money.

I ordered mine directly from Dell.

HARD DRIVE UPGRADE PROBLEM:
I went to upgrade the hard drive to an SSD drive, I HAD TO TAKE THE LAPTOP APART AND PULL THE MOTHERBOARD OUT.
I installed the SSD drive and went to install Windows, then the laptop crashed about 5 seconds into the install.
I spent another hour taking the laptop apart to pull the SSD drive, and put the old one back in. That laptop booted fine with the old hard drive.
The SSD drive was recognized and formatted in a different computer, so the issue is with this laptop. DELL SUPPORT SAYS THIS MODEL WILL NOT WORK WITH SSD DRIVES!

OTHER HARDWARE PROBLEMS:
I took this thing apart so I know how cheaply they made the frame; plastic and soda can thick metal.
The keyboard is loose and feels flimsy when typing (they keyboard just slides in and uses 4 locking clips when installing)
The DVD drive wiggles, just held in my a plastic

Other Thoughts: The display color looks washed out.
The battery lock latch button is loose.

DELL CUSTOMER SERVICE PROBLEM:
I called Dell support which sounds like they are in India. Went through about 2 departments before getting to technical support. The guy said I had to talk to the new laptop technical support department, so I was transferred over there (So that is 4 departments now). The guy didn't sound like he knew what he was doing there either. He came back and said that the 15R WILL NOT WORK WITH SSD DRIVES.

I asked to return the laptop. They transferred me wrongly to the parts department, then to the customer service again, then to the sales return department (each time asking me for the same information, over and over). So that is 3 more departments now. When I was talking to the returns department, they are charging me a 15% restocking fee and won't waive that. They put me on hold to process my return, and I went through about 4 more departments to return laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent laptop for the price

Pros: This is a decent laptop for the price. I had been dithering between the i3 and i5 versions for a while, then snagged this during a November sale. The screen is nice and bright, and the addition of USB 3.0 and dedicated number pad are nice extras.

Cons: Typical OEM bloat-ware is pre-installed. Like most laptops in this class, it only has a 5400 RPM hard drive. No dedicated graphics card. These are all expected, though. The only thing I really hate is the keyboard. It's an island-style keyboard, but it lacks the "touch" of my Vaio. Also, the lettering on the keyboard isn't bright white, which, combined with the lack of back lighting, sometimes makes it hard to find a key in low-light situations.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my wife, who primarily uses it for CityVille and web browsing. She's been very happy with it so far. It's very light for its size.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: - fast i5
- decent video
- cheap price
- solid hardware
- newegg of course rocks ! (fast delivery, good pricing)

Cons: - plastic feels flimsy
- laptop does not have a solid feel despite its significant weight

Other Thoughts: I am upgrading from gateway laptop from two years ago. Older gateway felt like it had better construction, better hinges, more rigid plastic, etc.
