4 out of 5 eggsneat little thing

Pros: thin, lightweight, very portable, 3 ports of USB 3.0, webcam, long battery life about 3-4hrs

Cons: 13inch screen at 1366x768 resolution, sometimes certain things are hard to read, such as when playing Hearthstone and trying to read the bottom descriptions on the bottom of the cards.

Other Thoughts: great laptop for ~four hundred. Able to upgrade to windows 8.1 for free. Intel 4000 integrated graphics is fairly good, not good enough for serious gaming, gets around 7-30fps during low intensity ffxiv arr gameplay.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat machines, hat the OS

Pros: Very sleek devices. Seem to be plenty powerful for standard SOHO use.

Cons: Nothing wrong with this computer except Windows 8.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Thin and light and good performance for browsing and social networking.

Cons: Other than the annoying port covers and Internal battery (will be a pain to change when the time comes), none so far.

Other Thoughts: I don't expect my review to be very helpful, but I have not experienced the issues the others have complained about. Coming from a MSI netbook, this is a giant leap forward.

5 out of 5 eggsJust right

Pros: The excellent keyboard and touchpad are my main reasons for choosing this laptop over a comparable tablet. It's thin, quiet, and comfortable to lug around between public transit, work, and class. It handles Windows 8 fluidly.

Cons: Glossy screen reflects any light source behind you. Not easy to dismantle and change components if that's how you like to treat your new electronics. Dell company is run by neocons.

Other Thoughts: The port covers are a nice feature for a mobile user. If you need to plug stuff in, buy a desktop. Everything I use away from my desk connects fine with bluetooth or wifi.

I did swap the 500GB HDD for the 128GB Samsung SSD I had recently put in the larger laptop that this Dell replaced -- I highly recommend for performance and battery life.

Takes a week to acclimate to using the Fn key to utilize Home/End/PgUp/PgDn.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: 1) Lightweight
2) 13.3 inch screen
3) touchpad - left & right click buttons with seperations. I HATE HATE HATE the integrated touchpads that are coming in today's laptops.
4) Plenty of connectors - 3 USB 3.0, 1 HDMI, integrated headphone-mic input, Ethernet port for when wifi is not available,
5) Fan is not too loud

Cons: 1) Ports are covered with flaps. Makes it a mission trying to initialy connect HDMI cable or usb's.
2) Battery life
3) 1368x768 screen res

Other Thoughts: For a $350-$375 range laptop, it's a very good device. I realized when I bought it, it doesn't have a touch screen, backlit keyboard or any of the other frills, some $800-$1000 laptops have. Hence, it's a great buy at it's point price.
Speakers work, keyboard is nice, love the mousepad, portable enough because of it's size and weight. I'd recommend this to someone who doesn't do a lot of memory intensive tasks. I use it for word/excel doc, music, movies, surfing and burning cds/dvds.

2 out of 5 eggsNot so good

Pros: Slim and comfortable to use. Keyboard is adequate and trackpad is great.

Cons: Port covers are flimsy and a terrible idea. Difficult to remove and put back properly.

Also, my laptop was sent to me defective. The seam between the keyboard/trackpad and base of the laptop had a gap in it and wouldn't press down fully without popping back up. RMA'd the laptop, Newegg couldn't find anything wrong with it. Also denied my RMA for a physical defect based off of an operating system change. Even their return policy does not give this as a reason.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall, but super fast.

Pros: It is nice and thin. It's really fast for have a 1.9GHz processor. 3 USB3.0 ports. HDMI, really portable, It is a hybrid of a netbook and a ultrabook. If you don't want to pay the price for an ultrabook, this laptop is your best choice.

Cons: The USB's, HDMI, Audio Jack are hard to get at with the covers on. it can be a pain sometimes, but it's light enough to lift up and plug stuff in.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: I was a little nervous because similar (older) models from Dell had bad reviews, mainly about the WiFi. However, I had no such trouble with this model, which replaces the other 13Zs, and is cheaper anyway.

Lightweight, compact, decent battery life (about 3 hours on max brightness, internal speakers set to loud, streaming 720p/1080p YouTube videos on full screen, or about 5 hours on light use at full brightness). The advertised 7 hours is possible on medium brightness, WiFi off, just doing Microsoft Word.

Given the cheap price (I've seen similar models from other brands at around $500+), this is a great deal at the current price.
Speakers can get pretty loud.

Not a lot of bloatware!

Microphone and Webcam are surprisingly decent.

Also, I picked it up using Will Call. Newegg's staff is very friendly and quick.

Cons: Stupidly enough, this thing doesn't have an optical drive, yet Dell gave all of the drivers on a CD... Really? To be fair, though, you'll probably reinstall drivers from the web anyway if you ever needed to.

The 3227U is a little slow, but if you remove the bloatware and disable unnecessary startup programs, this thing is more than fast enough for your basic tasks.

The trackpad honestly sucks. It is small and is high friction, requiring more effort than necessary to scroll around. In addition, the multitouch features seem to go to sleep if you don't use them for a few seconds. Basically, read a paragraph on a web page, then try and scroll with two fingers, and it takes about 1.5 seconds to move. Pretty annoying, and I couldn't find any feature to fix this, and I've installed all the latest drivers.

All of the ports (HDMI, ethernet, USB) have these really annoying flip-up plastic covers that you have to bend out of the way to actually fit a USB cable in there. They will almost certainly break off after a few weeks use (Possibly from me tearing them out from frustration). Did anybody at Dell bother testing this before actually mass producing? Sheesh.

It has this brushed aluminum look, but is actually plastic.

Other Thoughts: In case you care, the Windows 8 Experience Index scores are: Processor: 6.4, Memory: 7.3, Graphics: 5.2, Gaming graphics: 6.4, Hard Disk: 5.9.

Haswell laptops are going to come out soon (the first few already have, but are higher-end models), and those are supposed to have really good battery life. Unless you really need a computer, I recommend you wait a month or two!

Given the price, the cons are really just minor quibbles. I give this a solid 4.5 eggs.
