4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Unit was like new, I could hardly tell it had been used. It had a couple of tiny dings in the bottom cover, but I love the way it looks.

Cons: Win7 did not work 100% out of the box. The cursor disappeared and finger gestures would not work amongst several other small details. A system restore from the hidden partition displayed the same symptoms, so I put Win7 Home Premium from the DVD on a USB stick and installed from scratch. After installing minimal drivers from the Dell support page and doing updates, all was right with the world. Note: the N-trig drivers will need to be installed a couple of times to get the touch screen running right.

Other Thoughts: This unit came from the factory with Vista and was refurbished and released with Win7, so I'm not too surprised there were some problems. If you are capable and patient, this is a very nice laptop for the price. Linux (Ubuntu/Fedora) will run fine also, but you will have to give up gestures and the disappearing onscreen keyboard. I deducted the egg because of the extra work needed to get it working 100%.

3 out of 5 eggsNot too bad

Pros: Everything worked including AC Power Adapters (I bought 2 units)

Cons: One of the units keeps telling me the battery long life charge is slowly winding down. I have to fix that and get another battery at some point. I only had it a short time, so still waiting for something to go. Nothing yet though. Only comes with Windows XP, and the touch settings can be quirky.

Other Thoughts: Props to the guy before me. That was a ton of info. All I will say is you can fully use Windows 8 since it is a tablet, and I was able to find my first replacement SSD for 50 bucks, and my second is on the way for 70. With that and the 4 Gig stick only one other laptop we have is faster. It smokes with the better memory.

5 out of 5 eggsNice, cheap, tablet PC

Pros: I've always been eyeing the XT series of tablet PCs from Dell and when I saw the deal for the XT2, I sprung on it.

1. The unit arrived looking brand new, couldn't see any signs of previous use.
2 The 42 WHr battery is a genuine Dell battery with no problems at all. Maybe the battery life is less than that of a brand new one, but can't really judge.
3. Very light and mobile.
4. Comes with a 90 W AC adapter.
5. The design makes it easy to do everything in tablet mode.
6. The pen requires time to acclimate to, but is fairly easy to use.
7. I like the feel of the keyboard and the keyboard layout. Hasn't gotten too warm so far.
8. Price point is great.
9. Newegg shipping was fast. Ordered Sunday night with 4-7 day shipping and received it on Wednesday night.

Cons: 1. Only 2 GB of memory is clearly insufficient for multi-tasking with Windows 7 installed. Easily rectified by buying a 4 GB DDR3 sodimm. Max capacity is 5 GB (with 1 GB is built into motherboard)

Other nitpicking complaints are:
1. The placement of the power socket on the tablet is at the back, which makes it so that the charging cable sometimes gets in the way when you rotate the screen from one mode to the other.
2. The string tied to the pen is long enough to be annoying when trying to store your laptop into your backpack or whatever and short enough to cause some grief when writing on the tablet in certain orientations.
3. Comes with everything shown in the last picture, but the manual is not a real manual. However, everything you need can be found on the Dell website.
4. No built in camera, oh well...
5. It's not the XT3...

Other Thoughts: 1. Definitely change the N-trig DuoSense Digitizer Setting to "Auto mode" instead of "Dual mode". The laptop can be used with the pen and with your fingers like an iPad, etc. However, if you try using the pen to write/draw in dual mode, your resting hand will inadvertently move the cursor and click on stuff, which is very annoying.
2. Installed Windows 7 Professional and spent way too much time re-installing all the different drivers.
3. The HDD is a 1.8", and those are a bit rare/expensive compared to standard 2.5" HDDs.
4. The SD card slot fits the entire card into the body of the laptop with very little of it sticking out.
5. People I showed the XT2 to were definitely jealous :)
6. Original price is several thousand and now it's only a fraction of that some 3-4 years later. How can I really complain? At this price, I feel that I can really abuse it without feeling too guilty. In addition, it's a tablet and laptop in one, at a lower price, although with a smaller battery life and in a heavier package. But, you can write and draw!!!

1 out of 5 eggsNon-Dell Batteries won't charge

Pros: The laptop and AC adapter work fine, they're both genuine Dell parts

Cons: I purchased 4 of these units and not a single one came with a genuine Dell battery. Every single one of the systems refuses to charge the battery because they are not Dell parts.

These computers are effectively useless to me and my company because we can't put them out in the field.
