2 out of 5 eggsThink twice, and then think again...

Pros: Fast, good 3D capability, overall a wide array of features offered.

Cons: Hard drive crapped after only 5 mos. Toshiba customer service/tech support a total nightmare. Hard drive is easily replaced by removing a user accessible door on the unit. Anyone with 2 poseable thumbs, a philips screwdriver and 2 brain cells could do it. This was designed to be a user replaceable/upgradable item.

Other Thoughts: The reason for the low rating is due to the absolutely dismal customer service received by Toshiba over a relatively simple issue. After wasting over an hour of my time chasing a replacement drive for the unit I was told that "the entire unit has to be sent in" so they can unscrew 1 screw, slide out the defective part, slide in a new one, and reload the software. At the time of this issue their website clearly states - "Toshiba Notebook Depot offers customers a fast and convenient repair solution for In-warranty service. If a problem can not be resolved by the Toshiba Customer Support Center (TCSC) at 1-800-457-7777 or by a replacement part that can easily be replaced by you, Toshiba will provide you with a shipping box...". Don't you believe it. I have a printed copy of the quote on file. Apparently customer good will is not important at Toshiba.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice laptop!

Pros: Intel I7 cpu, 8MB ram, good video card, not integrated into the MB. I like the nice black, textured (in places) body. Includes a BD burner. Lots of USB ports (4). The display is very crisp and clean, capable of 3-D video. Comes with nice 3D IR controlled glasses. Big battery and very quick, right out of the box.

Cons: The space bar didn't work properly and I had to RMA the unit back to Toshiba for a warrenty fix. It does NOT come with a USB 3.0/eSATA combo port, dispite the advertisement. The battery is quite large (nice), but it adds about a pound to the overall weight. But, I'm so happy with this notebook that I just can't take away an egg for any of these issues.

Other Thoughts: I REALLY like this laptop (have I said that?). It doesn't matter to me that the combo port is ficticious. A StarTech USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter works just as well, though not quite as convenient. I like the 10-key numeric keypad. The keyboard feel is excellent and the LED backlighting offers just enough illumination in a darkened room (you can disable the backlighting too). I'm very happy with the 64-bit Windows 7. I haven't had any serious compatibility issues, even with some older games. I swapped out the 5400rpm HDD with a 7200rpm HDD to boost the speed a bit. Also, I stuffed a 16MB SDHD card in the card slot to support Windows 7 ReadyBoost. I feel that both of these changes make a very nice laptop even better.

Pros: Can't review because they shipped me an empty box and still haven't sent the one I paid for

Cons: will not place another order through these guys and I warn all other buyers...I ordered this laptop on the 21st of sep. and have yet to receive it and todays date is oct. 10th

Other Thoughts: buyers beware

2 out of 5 eggs2nd Laptop Still no ESata port

Pros: Very nice laptop. Good specs

Cons: The specs say there are suppose to be E-Sata/USB combo ports. They are not on it. Atleast not on this one or the previous one I returned.

4 out of 5 eggsReview #2

Pros: Price cheap for all the features

Cons: 5400rpm hard drive is kinda slow. screen a bit too glossy at times and viewing angle isn't that great, USB 3.0 transfer speed does not make that much of a difference from 2.0.
sometimes the power settings get changed to like some kind of default at times so it's kinda frustrating that you have to change it again (specifically the brightness),
the 120hz isn't that noticeable, but I did get PowerDVD 11 and that's when I noticed the real smoothness of the 120hz

4 out of 5 eggsNo regrets

Pros: Very fast processing, backlit keyboard, great sounds provided by harman/kardon, 120hz, USB 3.0, Blu-Ray burner, Bluetooth 3.0+EDR, Eco mode at a press of a button, 3D (even though I'd probably use it rarely), you can barely hear the fan/s

Cons: 5900rpm HDD, froze for a while with such an easy task, battery bulky but I don't care, Synaptics not as sensitive as Acer's when tapping to select, keys at the one-touch bar (or whatever it's called) aren't activated out of the box so you need to make you first connection to Internet via Ethernet

Other Thoughts: WiFi driver should at least be updated so that installation of necessary software is done immediately. I wasn't expecting a 2nd gen i7 to freeze even once but I guess I expected too much. But it wasn't that huge of a problem, probably just cuz I was still in the installation stage of my ownership. If you're used to a 7200rpm HDD, suddenly shifting to a 5900rpm feels so slow, if you're the type that accesses a lot of files best you stick with a faster speed or an SSD. The 3D is amazingly good, it's not like those videos where you see like two lines when it should be popping up to make that 3D illusion.
The 120hz makes images look clearer in moving scenes and also makes 3D better to watch.

Nevertheless, the product is a steal. You can't find a laptop with all those pros at this price. I'd definitely recommend this laptop. OH... and the gaming, well I'm sure it'll be nice

4 out of 5 eggsI thought 3D was just a bobble

Pros: Fast, textured, Blueray burner, good trackpad, tons of memory, runs fairly cool and very quiet!

Cons: Slow disk, relatively lackluster resolution, very poor documentation.

Other Thoughts: Keyboard is better than I expected, sound is good but not capable of being loud. I am replacing the HDD with a SSD. 3D works VERY well. Old games have new life as even games that aren't written for 3D (my Heroes of Might and Magic V) look stunning while wearing the silly 3D glasses! I moderately recommend this laptop.

While fairly incapable, Toshiba tech support was quick and responsive. Nvideo tech support is outstanding.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Fast

Pros: Durable and solid construction fully loaded laptop.
Back-lit keyboard with settings for on all the time, 1 sec or off.
3d quality is amazing.
Extremly Fast!

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I got this laptop for editing HD video from a Go-Pro camera with Sony Vegas HD platinum 10. My 4 year old duo core could not handle it. This laptop handles it fine.
Flight simmers will find this laptop terrific.
I have Flight Simulator X with Acceleration, Aerosoft Manhattan, MegaSceneryEarth NY, Long Island, Mass. and get frame rates 30-60 with all the settings turned up full.
This is also with the Nvidia 3d activated which makes the scenery look incredible!
I hooked up my 50" plasma TV to the hdmi port and display came right up and looked terrific. I tried to see if 3d also worked while on the TV but did not, I guess u need a 3d TV.
In normal operation the fan runs very quiet and things are cool, but when running Flight sim the air comming out is hot! The thing was in overdrive and working hard but with no problems noted with the hardware or the software performance.
Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 eggsA very very nice notebook!!!!

Pros: Coming from another brand, it took me a bit to get used to the keyboard, but now I wouldn't want to go back. Great feel to the keys & I really like the layout. Backlighting is a really nice feature. Speakers are just suburb. Best I've ever had on a laptop. I use it a lot for Illustrator and it has the power to be very quick with its graphics. Movies, games, and such look and play great. Blu-ray loads quickly and plays great. No heat issues at all. It stays cool and is very quiet. Being able to turn the keypad off is a nice feature. I happen to really like the way the 12-cell battery is configured. It stands the back of the laptop up a bit when placed on a flat surface and positions the unit a lot better for work. Would I buy this one again? Yep, in a minute without any hesitation.
Would I get it from Newegg again? A big YES to that too!

Cons: The glossy screen is really "glossy". Took me a bit to get used to it.

Other Thoughts: For all its features and performance, I actually don't have a problem with the price. Very reasonable in my view. Looks like I'll be ordering one for the wife before too long!

5 out of 5 eggsWow.. Need i say more?! Ok i will..

Pros: Plays games REALLY well in 2d and 3d modes
Great on battery life 5.5hours MAX personally tested.
Excellent loud crisp speakers. Great highs and mids
Sharp clean display. Not full HD but Blurays and games look Excellent
Bright illuminated keyboard. Raised keys Have a good solid popping feel
usb 3.0 device ready (Would have liked an eSATA too but USB3 is the future)
BluRays load quick and plays smooth as well as Youtube 1080p hd vids.
3D Videos look absolutely Great!

Cons: Textured finish feels REALLY plasticy but it beats the super glossy fingerprint magnets like HP laptops. The minimal glossy portions do look really nice though. Would prefer a matte finish
Backlit keyboard could be a little too bright at times. The raised keys bleed a lot of the white led light especially when looking at in from an angle.
ANNOYINGLY LOUD beeps when you adjust the volume. It not only beeps when you tap the volume button but will continue to beep as it raises and lowers the volume NOTE: its not Toshiba its the Realtek soundcard that makes the beep noise which can be muted in the volume mixer.
The HUGE battery doesn't sit tight on the laptop so every time you set it down you get a clunk noise. In fact it will just completely wobble around when you shake it. Doesn't affect the functionality just the overall solid feel of the laptop.
Tons of inflated pre loaded software!

Other Thoughts: I've been using this laptop for 2 weeks straight now and i absolutely love it!
The Eco mode button is truly amazing. It shuts off the backlit keyboard, cuts power to the bluray drive, de-tunes the processor, and actually shows you your power consumption essentially bringing up your battery life to 5 hrs.
i got max about 5.5 with no wifi just photo editing. 4.5 hours of netflix streaming. 2-2.5 hours of playing need for speed hot pursuit with an xbox360 wireless remote plugged in. Also in Eco mode the laptop is almost silent. Right now the CPU fan is off and the hard drive is pretty inaudible.
The 5400rpm hd is pretty fast. i swapped in an old 7200 WD Scorpio Black and using ATTO the 5400 hd blows it away.
I've played Batman Arkham Asylum, NFS Hot Pursuit, and Civilization 5 on high to max settings in 2d and 3d and the GT540m kills!
This is the best 3d, Bluray Burning, Gaming, gen2 i7, laptop on the market Price vs Performance vs Feature wise. No wonder this things sold out
