2 out of 5 eggsAvoid Acer

Pros: Good price at the time
Windows 7

Cons: Get extremely hot when playing a game

Horrible tinny little speaker you can barely hear; you MUST use headphones to hear good sound

Lasted slightly less than 3 years and just suddenly died!

Other Thoughts: I am very, very dissapointed with this machine lasting almost exactly 3 years and then dying! It's not like it gets lugged around or manhandled, my wife uses this on the kitchen table and it doesn't get moved. Laptop will not boot all of a sudden and screen is black. I tried to re-flash the bios and that didn't work. Tried taking it apart and cleaning out fan and reapplying heat sink compound thinking it was overheating and that didn't work. I'm sure this model is no longer available but I sure don't trust Acer products now. I suggest another brand. Forums are full of comments with people have the same problem...apparently this is common with Acer.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For a laptop that was 650 it blows all other laptops in the same price range out of the water. I went ahead and upgraded the laptop to the 8Gb of RAM and now can play any game I want which i usefull for when I am away from home. I run a boinc server on the laptop when I am not using if for games and it is running thorough a large number of proces's for a laptop.

Cons: Very low battery life.
Wasn't 300 dollars
Will cook your legs to a median well done.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, Great Price

Pros: I have been using this model laptop for quite some time now, and I can say that this is the best computer that I have ever owned.
•Phenom II Quad core @2.0GHz (Upgradable to the N970 @2.2GHz)
•4GB DDR3 Ram (Upgradeable to 8GB)
•640GB HDD Space
•FULL Keypad
•Great Graphics Card
•Decent sized multi-touch pad

Cons: •Battery on the skimpy side (~3-4 Hours light use, ~1-2 Heavy Use)
•Can heat up rather quickly (Helps if you replace the manufacturer heat sink compound and/or get a cooling pad)
•Screen doesn't have a great contrast ratio

None of these were enough for me to cut an egg

Other Thoughts: A well rounded laptop! For under $700, you get quad core, powerful graphics, and all wrapped in a nice 15.6 inch laptop. There are minor problems, but can easily be fixed (Buying extended battery, cooling pad, etc.) People have been complaining about the speaker, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. It's actually pretty loud compared to other laptop's, and sounds half-way decent. I would recommend this laptop to ANYONE who needs some serious power, but doesn't want it to cost an arm and a leg.

4 out of 5 eggsjust got this

Pros: Cheap
Great specs, quad core with 4 gigs of ram and dedicated card

Cons: Only 1.75 gb of ram register in windows. I have no idea how to make this thing use all 4 gigs. It says 4gb installed, but 1.75 usable.

TONS of bloatware I had to remove.

Very concerned about the ram. If I can't find the answer on google I hope someone on here has an idea.

5 out of 5 eggsCan play Crysis

Pros: If 80 something people replied, Newegg must have sold like 400 of these. Got this bad boy for international travel, 2+ hours for playing games, and my first laptop that does not burn my legs. This laptop IS OUTSTANDING considering the price and how much power was packed into a 15inch computer. This laptop is currently running multi boot, one Linux 11.xx partition, two Win 7 partitions (I wiped the drive to my own taste in the first week).I have played Crysis 2 medium settings, half life 2 max, Duke nukem forever max, Crysis Max, Microsoft flight simulator Max and this thing runs like a bullet. I love my first quad core AMD powered laptop.

Cons: What the hell is wrong with you Newegg? Get Acer to ship more AS5552Gs . Well I should mention Acer needs to provide a new AMD catalist driver for the HD6650 ! I didn't find an update the first month I got this laptop.

Other Thoughts: I am getting a feeling Acer has given in to Intel domination with current offerings or Phenom II Quad-Core N970 is having very low yields in production. Why is this laptop not currently available?

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This laptop is a beast. The quad-core CPU along with a but kicking graphics card with a price point so low, who could complain. I play L4D, L4D2, BFBC2, and a few other games, all at max settings with no problems, no lag and good framerates.

I use it for work as well and converting ppt files into wmv files is almost as fast on this comp as on my big PC. Overall, great laptop.

Cons: The plastic around the screen feels cheap. The plastic is flimsy. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. Still a great deal for the price. I just try to be careful with it, because I feel like it could break easily.

5 out of 5 eggspowerhouse

Pros: Very powerful computer. Does everything I throw at it. I haven't found a single program that will max this thing all by itself, but I haven't tried to convert videos yet. I converted some music, and it came pretty close.
It plays the new Medal of Honor beautifully on high settings (dx11 is gorgeous) as well as League of Legends on max with ~50 fps average.

Battery life is decent but not great. It lasts about 2.5 hours if you use the powersave setting and turn the screen brightness all the way down.

Quad core is amazing.

For this price and performance, it is pretty thin and light and very sleek. Everywhere except the screen and the screen bezel has a cool pattern that kind of hides the fingerprints.

Performance/Price ratio is best anywhere.

Cons: Bloatware is pretty annoying. It's not the worst i've seen, but I would still recommend a clean install.

The screen and keyboard feel pretty flimsy, but don't worry. they won't break.

OS is 64-bit, so there are some games that won't work on it unless you put a 32-bit OS on it.

Only 3 usb ports. I knew that before I got it though. and it seems that most laptops only have 3 now days.

webcam is nothing special.

Other Thoughts: Just like all laptops, this one gets quite warm under load. The most I pegged the cpu temp at was 82, and that was while running a program I wrote specifically to max the processor. Fortunately, laptop components are made to withstand that kind of temperature.

Lots of people say that the single speaker on here is awful. While it definitely isn't the best (come on, it's a laptop), neither is it near the worst. It is perfectly acceptable for watching a youtube video or something. However, if you're going to watch a movie or listen to lots of music on this thing, I would recommend getting a decent pair of headphones.

I made the mistake of ordering this just before the 4th of July weekend, and it ended up taking a week to get to me. Try to plan orders around holidays.

Overall, I love this thing.
