The Acer Aspire S3 ultrabook marries fast performance to an eye-catching design. The slim notebook boots up in only two seconds and connects to Wi-Fi networks within three seconds. The Acer ultrabooks feature a 20 gigabyte solid state drive, and this internal processor contributes to the computer's stronger performance while allowing for quick access to stored content.

The S3's outer shell is made of smudge-proof aluminum. The plastic interior provides greater comfort while typing and navigating with the trackpad. Additionally, the touchpad supports multi-touch gestures, so you can intuitively control pages without clicking constantly.

The thin notebooks in this product line can stream HD-quality video for over five hours on a single charge, and the battery is strong enough to last through an entire day when the computers are used to perform less demanding tasks.

3 out of 5 eggsLove/don't love

Pros: Lightweight, attractive, protected keyboard, fast (at first)

Cons: Super-sensitive touchpad has been and continues to be a problem. If my thumbs pass over it at all, I can accidentally select and move great swathes of text (I don't touch type, so don't always know until I've typed on.

A little after one year, I started getting messages about "consider getting a new battery," then the hard drive developed a bad sector. (They seemed related somehow, but I can't see why.)

Shortly after that, the 4 key fell off. None of this seems related to anything except it being just outside of the one-year protection plan. ;(

Other Thoughts: Some of the problems might be due to me being rough on it, but the touch pad thing is the most annoying, unfixable aspect (I have seen this discussed on message boards). I have tried multiple fixes with the settings and even use a bluetooth mouse so that I can turn the touchpad off when I really need to.

2 out of 5 eggsToo much trouble for 1 year of ownership

Pros: Very light weight. Great for school if you have to carry a bunch of things with you all the time.

Cons: Everything else.

- Sent it in shortly before warranty was up because wireless was working off and on. They repaired that.
- Shortly after the warranty was over, we had to replace the hard drive.
- You're paying a definite premium for weight. The laptop isn't that fast.

Other Thoughts: I got this for my sister who has some back problems and needed something very light. Otherwise, I'd put that money towards something a lot more powerful. Just too much trouble, even though I am in computer repair, to have to fix the thing each time something went wrong.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat computer

Pros: -the Blue Tooth helps out with not having a CD drive
-very small
-easy to throw in my backpack or if i decide to at the Everik case i got with the combo deal
-the aluminum does a great job dissipating the heat i hardly hear the fan kick on
-very strong construction

Cons: -Doesnt have a CD drive.
-the aluminum body has shocked me a couple times after i pulled the fleece blanket up, i hope one of these days i dont short something out

Other Thoughts: My biggest concert with this computer was the battery life and that it didnt have a CD drive. however after having the computer for a few months i realized it isnt that big of a problem. i got this computer for the purpose of word processing, internet browsing and very very low demand gaming. i can run steam, with monkey island, a night at the inventory poker and thats all i have really tried now. i didnt expect the computer to be a powerhouse at all.

4 out of 5 eggsJust the touch pad.

Pros: This is a wonderful ultrabook, very slim, very fast, wicked long batter power. It's all around everything I needed to take notes in class. It also can run Steam, and different games that are not overly intense. Such as Plants vs Zombies, and Aliens vs Predator.

Cons: The only con I can really think of is the touch pad. It will sporadically stop working and will just stop responding. It will also be hyper sensitive suddenly. The last thing is that is will sometimes just stop using the left click, and only have right click all across the entire pad.

Other Thoughts: I honestly really like the computer. This is my first ACER and I'm really happy with it. I just use a wireless USB mouse.

3 out of 5 eggsWireless Issues

Pros: Very lightweight and compact. Sleek design.

Cons: Everything seems to work fine but the wireless. I have been working as a computer repair expert for a few years, and this one seems to be a fault with the laptop. Sometimes the connection is fine, other times it will time out. They suggested we reformat it so I installed my own clean copy of windows 7, and it still had the same issue.

We have tried it in 2 different wireless locations (different routers) and it still does it. Tried updating bios, uninstalling and installing latest drivers, etc. We're 2 days over 30 day return, now looking to do a warranty return.

Other Thoughts: If not for the wireless issue, I'd give it 5 stars. I'd love for it to have a cd drive but with a lightweight laptop like this, I imagine it's a little difficult to fit in (it's not even an inch thick)

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Laptop

Pros: - Mobile.
- VERY thin.
- Cheapest Ultrabook.
- Light.
- Sleek look from the outside.
- Sleek look from the rear.
- LED's can be seen when its closed and on.
- Nice turn on button, very different.

Cons: - Low life battery.
- Small buttons.
- Freezing OS.

Other Thoughts: I love this Ultrabook. Its very perfect to my needs. I am a programmer and I help people with programs and I program on my own when I am out or at school. It works just fine but it is no desktop so its processing isn't top notch but its cheap so its good.

Some of the things I hate about it is the battery, tops is around 4 hours maybe. I got max of 3-3.5 hours from it. I use it in class to write notes so I turn Wi-Fi off and all Anti Viruses and dim the screen to lowest and turn it off when I'm not taking notes and it still only lasts around 3.

The keyboard is a little annoying if you're going from a desktop. The buttons are at one level so it bothers me and I make mistakes constantly but its a thing you get used to and learn how to use not a real negative.

The OS actually froze while writing the password, never got to log in while I was in class. I had to reset it, luckily there were no notes during that time so I was lucky.

Pros: -light weight

Cons: -battery life 2-3hrs

Other Thoughts: Overall the laptop is very useful however it was very disappointing to only have 2-3 hrs of battery in battery saver mode

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Very lightweight, amazingly thin, gorgeous screen, large multi-touch touchpad. Have been wanting an ultrabook for some time and the price on this one was the lowest I have seen for decent specs.

Cons: Keyboard keys could be bigger instead of having empty space around them. With no physicalbuttons for clicks, the touchpad gets some getting used to. Battery only lasts 3-4 hours & non-replaceable. No LAN jack. Only 2 USB ports. Slow 5400RPM hard drive, but 20GB SSD hybrid helps some.
