4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop compared to others of the price!

Pros: -The price (compared to others with the same specs)
-The weight (This is really light compared to the Asus RoG)
-Keyboard Backlight (nice red, even throughout)
-Trackpad switch (a quick tap and it is off!)

Cons: -Windows 8 (not really a con, took some getting used to)
-Keyboard keys (not really fit for gaming)
-Trackpad (it is more to the left of the computer)
-Cooling fan (it is on the right side, hand gets really hot!)

Other Thoughts: I have had this laptop for about 3 months now. I bought it while I am deployed (Big plus for NewEgg shipping APO). It is a fantastic latop! For the equivilent popluar choices, such as the Asus Republic of Gamers series, this one beats them out of the park on size, weight, and components. The equivilent computer with Asus was over $1600 and Alienware was the better part over $2000. As some others have said, it has Windows 8, but not the reason why I knocked the egg off. I bought some programs through Stardock such as Start8 that gives me the start menu, and others that makes all apps have the normal window features instead of fullscreen 24/7, as well as a windows 7 theme with the correct windows shapes and colors, so on first glance, you really cannot tell the difference and I got the speed of Windows 8. Now onto the rest of the laptop. I docked half of an egg for the fan placement. As a right hander, the fan is on the right side and the fan blows right where my mouse is, so it heats up rather quickly, I solved this by folding a piece of paper to force the air to go towards the back, no big deal, but still a bit odd for a fan to be. The other half of the egg came off due to the keyboard. The backlight is great and even throughtout the keys, but the problem lies with the keys themselves. It takes a while to "break the in" so to speak. They are a "chicklet" style and it just does not respond well for gaming or typing in general to be honest. But I planned on just using this for the deployment and using it as a side computer when I get home. As for a main gaming rig, I would not recommend it unless you are a Lan gamer and travel a lot or go to friends house. If you play most of your games at home and can go a few days trip without needing a powerful laptop, then just buy a desktop.

It terms of games. I play everything that is released to date on highest settings. Farcry 3 plays on a steady 45fps with everything cranked up. This game is one of the top demanding games to benchmard with right now. I play Battlefield 3 while recording on Ultra at a steady 60 frames per second. It can peak at 85, but I limit it to a stead 60 and it never falls below that. Another note is that the bottom right where your wrist sits when not using a game with a mouse (like a dricing game) can get pretty hot as well. But internal temps are actually really cool with this so me complaining about the fan placements and such is really worth the cool temps it runs.

I would highly recommend this for a gaming laptop, but not a full gaming rig.

I will be using this for a secondary gaming computer that is semi-permanet having it off to the side closed on a cooling pad plugged into an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse as well. So I will update this review when I play an extended online session and let you guys know how it fares!

5 out of 5 eggsVery satisfied

Pros: Fast, high performance with heavy desktop load. I drive multiple monitors off this (using the Koutech IO-UVD adapter from NewEgg - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812240021). This laptop endures multiple IDEs and dev tools, large photo catalogs in Adobe Lightroom or editing large video files across the three monitors.

Cons: Battery drains in a couple of hours of use.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Great laptop for great price love the graphics on this thing I can run any game on high quality with no lag problems.

Cons: Windows 8, but with a program called "Start 8" Your computer will get a start menu again and boot directly to desktop format so it is basically windows 8 I used it and it works great.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product, very pleased

Pros: This is a great laptop. I bought it mostly for home use, some casual gaming, and personal home office use. I don't travel with it, so I like that it has a large vivid display. The backlit keyboard is a nice touch, and it's definitely very fast with plenty of memory so I can run multiple apps at once. I did pick up a cooling stand for it, and of course a USB wireless mouse. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Cons: The only downside, which isn't really the fault of Toshiba or NewEgg, is Windows 8. However I purchased a program called "RetroUI Pro", which gives you a start button again, so now I don't mind the Windows 8 as much.

Other Thoughts: Great value and NewEgg shipped very quickly. Definitely Pleased.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome computer, factory defect

Pros: This computer is everything I wanted and more.

Cons: After waiting for it to arrive and being all excited to play with my new toy, I notice upon powering it up for the first time that it has a dead pixel.

Other Thoughts: This computer is a great buy. I rma'd it and will be patiently waiting for another to arrive in the mail with all pixels intact. The hassle of having to RMA this device really makes me very sad. Due to sadness -1 egg.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop

Pros: I was not intending to buy a laptop for another month but when this came up in my search I jumped all over it. Amazing specs. Has 2 500Gb disks. Pre built with Windows 8. Can't go wrong with 12Gb memory.

I gave Windows 8 a chance but it sucks big time. It just is not a OS for a laptop or desktop. I would still be using XP if I could since I want my desktop OS to be just that, an operating system that *I* install stuff onto an configure.

Anyway.. to 'downgrade' to windows 7.
Put in a USB drive with at least 16GB of disk and do a full system recovery copy. This copies the system restore partition.
Figure out how to access the bios (google it). In the bios, disable secure boot.
Another setting to change in the Bios is under boot, I had to "enable csm". Otherwise Windows 7 hung on the starting screen before any install.
I think I also had to change the UEFI mode too.
Once I was finally able to boot off the Windows 7 CD, I had to remove all the partitions. Windows 7 would not use the main partition with the others there.
Install was a breeze. I ran through all the drivers from the Toshiba EU website.
I had problems with the graphics driver. The Nvida driver would not install without the Intel driver. The Toshiba Intel driver would not install at all.
I connected to Windows Update, it found the Intel HD 4000 graphics driver and installed it.
I then installed the Nvida driver (the one on the Toshiba website is out of date).

So far the laptop works great. Very happy with it.

Cons: Windows 8 - Seriously, I can't believe they released this OS. Most businesses will never upgrade and many users hate it.

The power block is the biggest I have seen since the 90's. I don't understand why it is so big.

Other Thoughts: This is not a laptop to use if you travel a lot. It is bulky and heavy. It is however a perfect replacement for a desktop that you want to move around occasionally.

5 out of 5 eggsRockin

Pros: This baby rocks the gaming world! This laptop is huge, but i knew that. I was looking for a desktop replacement for my aging desktop.
I'm playing Crysis3 on all high settings. Several other new games play just as well. Crisp Screen and sharp looking laptop. For the money, this was a great choice.

Cons: Windows 8 bites, but used a third party program to give a windows 7 start menu and all was well again. No cons about the laptop itself.

Other Thoughts: This is a great product for the price and I can always replace one of the 500gig hard dives with a SSD to make it even faster. Not needed though!!

5 out of 5 eggsi am amazed more i use it.

Pros: this is a great gaming laptop. screen is great, graphics are awesome. for this price you're getting a beast laptop. the only cons people had for this was windows 8 and if you cant understand windows 8 you should stop using technology, 8 is really user friendly and works better the more you use it.

Cons: nothing

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible Piece of Technology, minus Windows 8

Pros: WOW. Thank you, Toshiba for this incredible laptop! The power behind this thing is great for a computer in general, not to mention a laptop. Lots of high quality RAM, with room for more, great processing power, a high end graphics card with dedicated RAM, a useful selection of external ports (4 USB 3.0, HDMI, RGB, 2 audio out, Ethernet, wireless blue tooth and card reader), crisp on board webcam, lovely on board microphone and phenomenal on board speakers! Never mind the implications of on this great on board hardware: Voice recognition with commands, speedy video and photo processing and just about any kind of wired or wireless connection imaginable is possible with this beauty!

It feels like all of the fantastic elements of other designs wrapped up in one cute package to represent the end of an era of computers.
To absolutely geek out: The most incredible gear you can get in a game right before the expansion that will make it useless to most people. (However, this machine is far from useless and I don't think that analog keys/buttons could ever be entirely replaced by touch screen technology.)

In addition to the power the design is very sleek and attractive: Thin screen with high resolution and very sharp/clean colors and imaging, a gorgeous back lit keyboard and all in all a beautiful color scheme and over all design; It's obvious that there was a lot of love put into every element and inch of this machine.
It was the baby of a lot of very passionate people and you should ABSOLUTELY take the opportunity to make it your baby too before they're gone! If the Q7280 is any indication, this lovely computer will soon cease to be manufactured by Toshiba.

Cons: Unfortunately, this beautiful creature is not without flaws.
Namely, Windows 8. Upon studying the Toshiba product information on the original design of this laptop, it appears that it is the same as the Q7280 just with a larger hard drive and Windows 8 slapped on as a last minute adjustment.

However, this means that all the Windows 7 drivers for this laptop are available direct from the manufacturer, as long as you know where to look for them. (The European Toshiba site actually has more drivers available for this model than the US site.)

There are several other small issues with it but nothing worth writing it off: The touch pad can be a little temperamental at times (but what touch pad mouse isn't?) The mouse can jump around a bit randomly and likes to scroll more than it likes to select and the right button is not immediately apparent. It also appears to have been designed for someone who is left handed, rather than right. Which I suppose is a pro for some people but not yours truly.

Lastly, this laptop is HEAVY. (7.5 pounds heavy, to be exact.) Although with 17.3 inch screen and being high powered, it would be weird if it wasn't heavy and rather disconcerting.

Other Thoughts: Overall, none of the negatives are worth not snatching this laptop up as soon as possible. The potential and possibility of uses for this laptop is ENDLESS! Gaming, media creation, networking, streaming.. You name it, this baby can do it, with ease and style.

Windows 8 can be a bit cumbersome on this machine but literally all of the drivers are available from the manufacturer. So should you find Windows 8 not working well for you, you can easily revert to Windows 7 instead.
Although Toshiba does make very similar models with Windows 7, they aren't quite as lovely or as well designed as this model so I suggest you opt for the X875-Q7380 anyways as you can acquire any software for it easily. (This laptop is also called "Toshiba Qosmio X870-PSPLZE")

All of its useful additions may make it heavy but if weight is really a defining factor for you, you should probably go for a tablet rather than a laptop anyways.
I thought the weight would be a big deal for me but everything else about this computer absolutely dwarfs any short comings it may have; The only thing that would make it better is if it could independently wake up, make you breakfast and manage your entire life for you.

TLDR; Buy this machine! The design is awesome, it's high powered and all the drivers and updates are easy to find.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop

Pros: * Incredibly fast laptop.

* Runs Tomb Raider and Dishonored both set to high/maximum with no stutter.

* Backlit keyboard is nice.

Cons: * Windows 8

* Windows 8

* Windows 8

* Kind of bulky and the brick portion of the AC cord is huge.

Other Thoughts: Getting rid of Windows 8 was a chore but worth it. The machine runs MUCH better under Windows 7 than it did under Windows 8.
