3 out of 5 eggsDecent with flaws

Pros: Powerful CPU handles a lot of applications easily. Upgraded Video Card handles a lot of modern video games at a decent resolution. It works well when hooked into an external monitor via the HDMI port.
Lighted keyboard is nice for use in low light situations.
Price is very good compared to similar laptops.
6GB memory is decent and will work for most users, though I did upgrade after buying this.
500 GB hard drive is adequate, but lacking a bit. Not a major issue since I have a Home NAS that stores most files.

Cons: The range for the internal WiFi adapater on this laptop SUCKS! My office is located on the other side of the house from the router, but never had any problems with the 3 other laptops I've had. For this, I needed to buy an external adapter to get any reliable connection and speed. That is unacceptable for a model that was just released. So I end up being short one USB port.
Speaking of which, there are not enough USB ports. At least two more would be
The screen is low resolution, which I knew when purchasing, but was a bigger disappointment then I expected. Not an issue when I hook it into an external monitor.
Battery life is also more disappointing then I expected. This is especially an issue since the battery can not be replaced by the user.
Another issue I have is with the touchpad and it's lack of a right click button. How can a lap top not have a right click button?? I have to use an external mouse anytime I want to use this laptop and that is unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: Decent enough laptop, that has more flash then substance. Given a chance to redo my purchase, I would not have bought this one and would instead have gotten a Lenovo.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for what you pay for.

Pros: -Fast processor( 4th Gen i7)
-Graphics |GeForce 740M| (Incredible for gaming)
-Can play almost every thing on HIgh settings or Ultra. Now I'm not really a graphics freak, I'm there for the experience, and having a graphics card of that multitude is just a plus a long the way.
-Build Quality, now this seems to be the tricky area with buying this particular model. Why you ask? Well, to be honest I have no idea. I find the plastic what it should be, it's very sturdy, it feels very light/thin. And along with that the lighted keyboard that is adjustable(yes I said adjustable) is absolutely fantastic.
-Sound, the speakers are off the hook. I compare them to my dads Audi speakers, you know the famous Bang & Olufsen that goes in all executive german saloons.

Cons: -Display, not what I expected. But I plan on hooking in up to an external monitor. So it's really not an issue.
-Heat, this really isn't an issue (actually it really shouldn't be going in the 'cons' at all) but, there is a hot spot in the right corner touching the side that gets very hot wherever it is placed. Especially if your playing any sort of game that needs some kick to its gear into place. Here's what I'm really getting at, I find it fantastic that this big laptop funnels all the heat to that one corner. Is almost astonishing, Again, here's what I'm actually getting at all the previous laptops that I've had before (Dell, terrible), (HP, Decent but not good enough) have all been black or white with there cooling systems. It either gets all very very very very hot, or you have virtually no heat coming out of the bottom. Both of them broke within a year. This has found a grey area. Funneling it out, Not holding it in.

Other Thoughts: I choose Windows 7 Pro for a reason. Steam and EA are moving away from Windows 8 support. (I think). Next reason, it seems childish. Like a toy that you play with. Well my technology isn't a toy. And I need it to work 100% of the time. I can't find another laptop like this for the price, of course I wracked up about another $600 in options, but that's because I need a kicka comp. But you really won't find another laptop like this on the market for the same price. You might find the tech in this, on a $1500-1900.

3 out of 5 eggsYour paying for the internals

Pros: - The cheapest Core i7 Haswell solution with an NVIDIA 740m
- Backlit Keyboard ( adjustable to my needs and a nice touch for the price bracket)
- Nice very loud and clear speakers ( could hear from rooms away without a problem with very clear sound quality)
- Decent Webcam and Mic for skype.

Cons: - Extremely cheap plastic build quality ( my escape key was tilted 45 degrees out of the box)

- Feels heavier than it is advertised ( my previous laptop was advertised as half a pound heavier than this one, yet was lighter by real world comparison)

- Bloatware really sloooows it down( a clean install of Windows 8 should remedy this).

- Wireless adapter was a hit or miss most of the time ( though this could have been a driver issue similar to what my previous laptop had when I installed Windows 8 but I will mention it because recent driver updates should have remedied this).

Other Thoughts: I know this is advertised now but the screen is just...mediocre for the price. For $775 ( when I bought it) you still have to settle for a screen that is 1366 x 768 instead of atleast 1440 x 900. Why would you have such powerful parts for gaming and emulation if you have to hook it up to an external display to truly use it to its full potential? Does that not defeat the purpose of buying a powerhouse laptop?

If your on a tight budget and you absolutely need the Core i7 Haswell and Nvidia 740m GPU but are willing to compromise on build and screen quality then by all means this laptop is good enough . But if you want to actually use those internals to their fullest potential without an external display or cheap build quality then I would reccomend looking elsewhere.
