4 out of 5 eggsNice but with flaws

Pros: Very nice performance for this price. I bought mine with XP pro a year ago. The 512MB dedicated video is amazing! Would recommend this for amateur designers.
The battery life is great too. Could last a whole 6 hour flight watching movies.

Cons: 1. Cover is very easily scratched. The paintjob is simply not done to withstand high traffics of traveling.
2. Latch for LCD is weak. It's quite simple to break the LCD off this laptop. My screen was loose the 2nd week. Withstood this for a year and finlaly spent $300 to change the casing all around.
3. Screen is not as bright as it should be. The color shine doesn't really work. Compare this screen to a Sony Viao, you will see a difference immediately. Asus are not known for their screens.
4. The cooling vent is definitely built in the wrong place. It's on the right side where you put your external mouse. Blows heated air on the hand. When you're running 100% on the CPU, the air gets really hot.
5. The 3rd prong for grounding on the AC adapter is unnecessary. It could be built into the converter. Makes it just that bit harder to connect to everywhere we go. Especially for international travelers.

Other Thoughts: Asus computers aren't known for attention in details. They have the cutting edge technologies for the cheapest price. But if you want a laptop that'll last a couple years and a couple traveling trips, don't choose this one. I chose this one for its features. It's a great computer. But I won't travel with it anymore tho, want it to last a little longer.

3 out of 5 eggsyou get what you pay for

Pros: Best gaming laptop you can find for the price, very fast in every day use.

Cons: I have owned this laptop for around 6 months now and it is always on my desk with a cooling station under it. But already the latch makes a loud pop when i open my laptop, and my os wont start now so im going to have to send it off to asus.

Other Thoughts: When i received this laptop from newegg there were already a couple of scratches on it and a few of the stickers that come on the new laptop were gone, so i most likely got sold a remanufactured computer for the full price.

5 out of 5 eggsNice and sassy

Pros: I was really impressed with how much product you get right out of the box. The graphics card is really good and will allow you to play most games without a problem.

Cons: It comes pre-installed with vista. Vista is garbage.

Other Thoughts: If you really want to pull some awesome performance out of this guy, I strongly recommend putting a nice distro of Linux (i'm running Ubuntu 7.10 atm) you are looking at a net of 2x or 3x performance increase easy vs vista

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the Best Gaming Computer at this price!!!

Pros: Now this is one of the best computer I've ever had. For $1,150, you get 2.0Ghz core 2 duo, 1gb ram, 120gb 5400rpm hard drive, and also Nvidia Geforce GO7700 dedicated vram of 512mb, which is amazing since most of the gaming computer with 512mb of vram costs about $1500~$1800. I highly recommend this computer if you are going to play hard!

Cons: I wish it comes with the window xp professional cd cuz it has too many unnecessary software running in the starting of the computer....well, some of them are really useful.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is great for both gaming and office use but if I had about $3000, I might've gotten the lamborghini version.... why you ask? just to look rich...

3 out of 5 eggsnice but there's better

Pros: Nice display; Good size; Good price; Nice # and selection of inputs though HDMI would be better than DVI. Not a lot of bloatware, which is nice.

Cons: Have had some glitches (probably Vista related); Don't buy this as a gaming computer since the graphics card seems to have known issues with most newer games (the cards preceding this one don't) so its just a bad nvidia card (even though I have 738mb of video memory) and there is no way to change drivers for it. Its great for last years games though.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Machine

Pros: This machine is one of the best laptops I have ever owned. In the last year alone I have owned an Apple MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 1210, HP DV2125, Apple MacBook, and finally Toshiba A215. Given that I have owned so many machines in the last year I feel I am qualified to review this one.
Right out of the box this machine was different and better than others I have owned. It came with a nice bag and usb optical mouse – both very nice.
Great feature set:
- intel t7200 cpu
- Graphics (1440 x 900 resolution)
- (Bluetooth, camera, CD/dvd burner, etc)
- Good battery life
The machine also feels extremely solid and is light and compact.
Extremely easy to upgrade memory and hard drive (I did both in about 5 minutes).
Easy to install new OS and great support (driver downloads) at

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggslots of bang for the buck

Pros: It has been a very good laptop no problems. 512 graphics to play oblivion on the go. mine came with XP with free vista upgrade which I did not do, why slow it down with an over bloated os. wireless lan works good. It has never locked up or froze on me since day one. sd card slot comes in handy. never wanted to shoot it

Cons: the glossy screen glare, and when gaming the hot air blows right on your mouse hand. Need to run on ac power to play newer games

Other Thoughts: a friend of mine bought a laptop with same specs except his has a 256mb 7600 go for twice the price at a local laptop store. NEW EGG ROCKS

5 out of 5 eggsSlick, strong, and mobile.

Pros: Fast processor, excellent video card (this is the kind of card you find in a 17" laptop,) open ram slot (for another 1GB stick,) obnoxiously bright at maximum brightness, great keyboard (no springing,) good touch pad, included accessories, price (as it's an old model,) 1440/900 resolution (above average for a 14".)

Cons: Glossy screen (I prefer matte, but that's just me,) viewing angles are poor (you must be looking straight at the screen, with little room for up/down/left/right angles,) battery life is meh, no volume control without using Asus software (although it's not as bad as what Toshiba forces on you,) Webcam resolution suitable for nothing but video chat, built-in microphone sound quality is ridiculously bad, NEEDS another gigabyte of ram, graphics driver is limited by what Asus puts out (the latest one available was released BEFORE vista was made available to the public...)

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop wanting a powerful graphics solution in the smallest portable machine I could find. And this is basically the best machine for that for the price.

A strong processor coupled with ridiculously powerful graphics for a laptop this size deliver a competent Vista experience.

This machine is also built to be upgraded: the processor, graphics card (mxm type) are both replaceable, and the ram is 1GBx1 instead of the usual 512MBx2, which means all you need to get is one more 1GB stick for 30 dollars and you're set.

I would strongly recommend this laptop while they are still available if you are looking for this portability/performance sweet-spot.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop for the price!

Pros: Light, small, portable and fast. The gaming is incredible and outperforms my somewhat higher end desktop system at home. I've played S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Halflife 2 and Anarchy Online and it performs very well.

Cons: Hard drive speed makes installation of software and network transfers crawl. Just took 15 minutes to install a 3.5gb game. Windows Vista is a pain, but just takes getting used to. DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP WITHOUT ANOTHER GIGABYTE OF MEMORY! It is absolutely nessesary.

Other Thoughts: If you're as nutty as I am about speed you won't find a better laptop. An extra gig of ram and a 7200 RPM hard drive and you'll be screaming fast. Processors are great. I will add more next week after I've traveled with it and tested battery times.

5 out of 5 eggsa compact computer that packs a punch!

Pros: Core2Duo at 2.00GHz with 4mb L2 cache, great screen, top notch video card (whooping 512mb), built in camera. The sleek design looks really cool.

Cons: The factory hard drive partition is rather dumb. I'd recommend to combine all partition and install new OS. Otherwise, this is a great system.

Other Thoughts: Very quiet, fast. can get warm near the exhaust fan but that's expected from every laptop, esp from a powerhouse laptop.
