Game anywhere. That's the promise of the G2S-A1 from Asus. The main engine is a Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.20GHz and it is backed up by 2GB of DDR2 memory. But you can't really game if your screen can't handle it. The 17.1" LCD panel can handle resolutions of up to 1900x1200 for incredible detail that’s delivered by the GeForce 8600M GT GPU with 256MB of dedicated memory. So, yes it will handle your DirectX 10 games. For the ultimate gaming experience plug the notebook into your widescreen TV with the HDMI port.
Keeping you connected on the go and at gaming parties is important. That's why Asus included Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless connectivity. There's also Bluetooth V2.0+EDR to round out the options. You could use the modem if you really wanted to. The Express Card slot lets you plug in a multitude of options including cellular broadband for anytime-anywhere connectivity.
Asus' Direct Messenger is an OLED display to the side of the keyboard that updates instant messages, system status and reminder alerts so nothing pops onto the main display at a crucial moment. The webcam, speaker and microphone let you have in-game communication with your team without the hassle of wires.

Major deal here!
- Pros: - Gorgeous, transparent glossy interface, slick "titanium alloy"-looking metal form factor shell
- Lightning speeds with killer framerate and smooth, polished processing power - LCD screen comparable to a desktop LCD in terms of brightness and clarity, the 1920x1200 resolution is extremely sharp - ASUS blue LED logo and time in the top left corner of keyboard is simply hardcore and convenient - Backpack is perfectly made for this laptop - Simple, quick, and intuitive setup - Comes with a dust protector for the keyboard - nice addition! - Heat production is very low, the unit's fans are very quiet - Awesome deal for a laptop, comparable to a $3000 version
- Cons: - Hard drive that comes with it is a bit on the slow end with the 5600 rpm
- USB ports in the back are not as convenient as laptops with side ports - A little on the heavy side but that goes with the territory I suppose
- Other Thoughts: I've only had this for a couple of days as of this writing, so I haven't had much time to play with it, however so far so good is what I see. It's the best high-end laptop I've ever had! I'm sure others agree as it looks sold out as I write this. ;) Thanks Newegg!
Lots of bang for lots of bucks
- Pros: When they said it was made for games they weren't kidding. It plays Oblivion nicely even with high settings.
- Cons: Windows Vista is less stable then XP so far. Lots of worthless software comes preinstalled on it. This notebook is quite large and fairly heavy. The computer itself gets fairly hot with intense gaming. Definitely wouldn't want it in your lap.
- Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a desktop replacement for gaming that is fairly portable, this is a great option.

Good Laptop
- Pros: Very nice display! I have used it mainly for office tasks(word, excel, ect.) And for those purposes the 1920x1200 really shines! Now when i installed UT3 & FEAR, the laptop really proved it to be worth its price. I played UT3 at 1920x1200 and it looked great! Played well. FEAR runs good maxed out at 12x8 rez. at 16x12 I could run on high at playable frames.
- Cons: The thing is a f***in tank - dont plan on using this as a mobile computer. I played the games on my lap and after 30 minutes my legs were on fire and I had a big indent on my legs!
- Other Thoughts: Like others, I wish they could put a faster HD in these. I put my own 320GB 5400RPM HD in, and reinstalled windows with the included disk. For the most part it went really smooth. No compaints.
If I could ask anything more out of it I would give it a 4, but for the price and what I got, this deserves a 5
G2S
- Pros: Great Notebook! All other praises have already been typed out in other reviews.
- Cons: Vista, but it's not THAT bad.
- Other Thoughts: Finding XP drivers for the "obscure" stuff has been a bit of a hassle, and slipstreaming them into my XP install disc was even a larger one...but I don't regret this purchase.
Update(Here's a bad one)
- Pros: I got everything working now. Two recent BIOS updates have fixed the freezing and i have found a fix for the optical drive failure online (search google for "missing cd/dvd rom drive" without the quotes). The drive has now burned about 10 data dvd-r, 3 music cd and 6 dvd movies without a coaster.
- Cons: still: "only one ram slot is accesible. directmessenger is worthless. no vga port forced me to buy an adapter."
however, with 32 bit OS you don't need access to the other RAM slot. I mistyped; it actually has VGA and HDMI and is lacking a DVI port. I have had no success getting a wireless N connection to my netgear wpn824v2(g works constantly at 54mbps though) while another laptop with netgear card does get 108mbps. I still have one issue... My speakers no longer work. The audio software detected headphones i plugged in, then it froze and the headphones were unplugged and after restarts and bios updates still no sound (except with headphones/speakers)?!?!
- Other Thoughts: I am so glad I found solutions for my issues...
