5 out of 5 eggsfirst laptop buy

Pros: hmm.... where to start. this system is just simply amazing. this is actualy my first notebook buy, and i was doing a lot of research and i kept comming back to this notebook. it is very fast. even with three gigs of ram i still dont seem to use it all so i think i will hold on the ram upgrading for a while, also the pocessor and graphics card run my games very well. i play a lot of DOD source and TF2 and both run very smooth with almost no lag on all high settings exept the AA, and the most important thing for me is it handles autocad 2008 very well. oh an actually vista isnt all that bad on this laptop. even though it does take up 1 gb of ram there is still 2 more gigs to use.

Cons: just a few minor cons but not really anything that would break an egg on this. as one reviewer mentioned earlier the keyboard seems to miss sometimes and does make you go back but it is not that often. and it does get a little hot under heavy use and the battery life is not long, but hey for this much power what was i expecting... =D

Other Thoughts: over all great system, i highly recomend this to anyone. and really consider buying a cooling pad if you plan on gaming on this.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great system, I've even run crysis on it for kicks and it does have a few slow downs but is very playable. I'm a cronic multitasker and it has done all I can ask without a hickup. Have yet to be disapointed in this system. I have been using Asus mobo's for years with exceptional luck. This laptop again proves that asus is quite capable of fielding a capable product.

Cons: Could use a little more battery life. There is a little too much bloatware and I wish the chinese language pack wasn't included but all are an easy uninstall.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value!

Pros: Just a heads up, I bought this from another site since NewEgg canceled my order for being out of stock. And now where to begin with the pros... The fingerprint reader is flawless, the face-recognition software is great (for people that can't get it to log them in, try setting it to the most convenient mode and have 100+ pictures of you). Also, the external speakers are very clear and are good to listen to. The touchpad is really unique since it allows for the multimedia buttons (such as volume, etc) which is VERY convenient. The price is very nice for what you get. The only thing you can get close to this (without a graphics card) is a Dell Inspiron. Even the XPS line they have doesn't compete with this. Splendid is fun to adjust. The screen is just amazing. The picture is very bright and I found my brightness level to be good around 50% or so. The webcam is pretty standard except or its 180 degree swivel which is nice when adjusting height to how you are sitting.

Cons: Well, the keyboard tends to miss some of the keys I type which causes me to be force to go back. But it only happens every so often and isn't that big of a problem. The laptop speakers have very little bass which is to be expected so it really is not a con. The webcam has trouble in darker light but that is also standard. This laptop runs hot but only when in high performance mode and playing games. When in battery saving mode you barely feel the heat at all. Also, the hard drive is too slow. I would've rather paid for a laptop with a 160GB 7200RPM HDD than a 250GB 5200RPM HDD since the laptop is majorly bottlenecked by the hard drive's RPM speed.

Other Thoughts: Also, this is a pro, but games play amazingly good for a laptop. I could play Assassins Creed with 1280x800 resolution with 3/4 on most settings with detail being 4/4 with minimal lag.

5 out of 5 eggsStyle and Efficiency incarnate

Pros: Great look, from the outside this laptop looks great with the black and silver color scheme. the white activity lights look cool at night and really stands out in a crowd of "store bought" laptops. 2.5 Ghz processor is fast enough to run everything I've thrown at it so far (Photoshop, skype, IE7, itunes, Zune, movies running off of vlc, [note: all at the same time]). Media touch pad is cool when lit up and works fine. Speakers sound really good compared to my last laptop (Acer Aspire 5100) Plenty of connection ports for the accessorizers. Ambient light sensor that adjusts screen brightness automatically is a neat feature. I also like the swivel mounted camera.

Cons: Not alot outright downsides to the laptop other than a nit picky things. Lid and wrist pad are fingerprint magnets like other people have said before. Drivers for the fingerprint reader were not present or update on laptop at start up or on the driver recovery disk included. I had to go to the website to get the drivers. When I did a recovery from the startup disk, not all the drivers installed correctly or at all and needed to found manually either on the disk, or online. Runs a bit hot but is tolerable on your lap. Battery life when on power saver setting and on lowest brightness level was 2 hrs and some change. These are mostly gripes I have and share with many other users of this computer, but overall it is a very solid laptop.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had a chance to run any games on it, but I will once I'm done with my deployment. Smartlogon program (Face recognition logon) doesn't always work right, the fingerprint reader is much better. Higher resolution camera would have been nicer. Also, I'm very used to the 1280 x 800 resolution for a 15.4 in screen and I would have like to have had the option to down grade to that resolution from 1440 x 900 but I can deal with that.

5 out of 5 eggsGot this with HD upgrade to 7200RPM

Pros: Just like everyone else said, this thing is shiny, fast, and neat. I got this from another vender who offered me about $18 premium to current sale price on Egg (1399) and upgrade this Harddrive to a 7200RPM 200GB, which is pretty much the last piece of the puzzle to make this thing a beast. and with Asus' program you can log in with your face literally, which I found quite interesting. And yes it does run abit hot, but as long as you got a pad with it it's all cool. multimedia pad is quite useful unless you use "tap" instead of click, then sometimes it can get frustrating. Lots of actually useful accessories and softwares that you'll have fun messing with for awhile. And Card reader reads just about anything except CF. There's an eSATA + USB combo slot, which I found innovating. And this comes with 6 cell batt, there are some 9-cells on the internet, I got them already so just look for it.

Cons: Won't beat your 8800GT desktop. Bright white lights for power is awesome but really shinny at night. Makes you wanna spend another 200 bucks on protection accessories. Vista (they do support multi language though, if you use recover disk). And keep you away from doing school homework.

Other Thoughts: I actually received this with a broken CPU fan. I believe it wasn't the vendor's fault because nothing else is broken, and it's kinda hard for them to only break CPU fan when stocking. I sent it back to Asus, they gave me free 2 day shipping both ways, and I got this back like in a total of 4 days including weekend, which is amazing. Asus do have a good customer service, no joking.
And the other thing is I messed up the system and reinstalled with their recovery disk, Almost no hand all the way, just put in the right CD when they tell you to, and they do all the job, quite amazing. btw, F2 is the key to get into BIOS for you to change to boot CD first.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Bargain

Pros: Good chipset for the price, Under 1500, 64bit OS compatibility, great warrenty from manufacturer, Lots of features, Great replacement for a desktop system,

Cons: It comes with vista, its has a really short battery life, generates quite a bit of heat for what im usually used to for a laptop.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a laptop built extreme energy and heat efficiancy. i just might now be used to the average ammount of heat a laptop usually puts out.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Crystal clear display. Excellent speed, and overall responsiveness. It appears that the 3 GBs of memory really helps with Vista. Hard drive is larger than on most similarly priced lap tops. The speakers are pretty good sounding. I don't think there is a better value out there right now for the money

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsbest bang for your buck

Pros: High end components - T9300 cpu + 9500M gs video card make this laptop a great desktop replacement. I like the bright screen too. Starts Eclipse in less than 10 secs, and gaming isn't bad either although I don't have much time for that.

Cons: Came with Vista, it took me 2 days to find all the drivers for XP, slipstream SATA drivers in the XP CD. Everything works except the infrared receiver which I don't use anyways, so it's not really a con. Nvidia doesn't have a good driver for the 9500m gs yet, so I got one from laptopvideo2go.com seems to work good.

Other Thoughts: If you want a solid machine and not pay an arm and a leg, and have the nerve to find drivers for XP this is your laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: 250gb hdd and 3gb of memory really say alot about this computer. Everything about it is high quality. Very good buy for the money. The blu ray player is cool too.

Cons: No problems so far. The sound could be a little better. Not really used to Vista yet.

Other Thoughts: Asus makes great dependable computer parts, so their laptops must be dependable too. The two year warranty is great.

4 out of 5 eggsPictures are NOT accurate!

Pros: Great laptop. Decent battery life.

Cons: Gets hot when gaming... VERY hot. The model in the pictures is the higher end model that shows the A/V in ports. The one you get doesn't have them. This is the first time I have been let down by Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Owned this for a month. Have Vista Ultimate x64 installed with Aero off. Runs great no complaints other than I didn't get what was pictured by Newegg.
