5 out of 5 eggsGreat specs and a cheap price

Pros: The specs on this thing are amazing for the price. The keyboard is on of the better ones I have seen on a laptop. The leather is nice and plastic is matte black so the case does not get covered in fingerprints. The fingerprint reader is a nice touch as login only takes a second after you set it up. The bloatware is minimal and only takes a couple of minutes to remove. A one year accident warranty is included. DVI and S-Video out are always nice to have. The mouse is made by logitech.

Cons: Obviously Vista, its security features are annoying. The video card is at the lower end, but it is a million times better than an onboard video chipset and I didn’t get this laptop for gaming. Speakers, but it’s a laptop and all laptop speakers are awful. Short battery life approx 2 hrs. when using minimal power. The Ethernet jack in the back could be a pain for someone with pudgy fingers.

Other Thoughts: I needed a laptop for my research that could keep up with my desktop for running multithreaded cpu and memory intensive progams and this fit the bill especially being under $1k after the rebate. Others have complained about the vent from the side of the case it, is barely noticeable.
In response to Big John’s review the bloatware on this is minimal and nowhere near as bad as some of the computers that I have seen come from dell or hp. Furthermore no new computer I have seen comes with anything other than a restore disk, unless you build your own.
I’ve always liked and never had any problem with asus mobo’s and this laptop is exactly what I expected from them nice, stable, and has a few extra bells and whistles.

5 out of 5 eggsA Beauty

Pros: Solid build, excellent configuration, beautiful appearance, yummy leather trim, professional looking appearance, high quality finish, fast loading, not too many unnecessary preloaded software, much cooler than my HP DV series laptop, nice and responsive keyboard, very pleased with the purchase. Asus is my new favorite laptop maker.

Cons: cannot find 9- or 12-cell replacement battery. It would be nice to come with other colors.

Other Thoughts: Tried to build one at Dell's website. Nothing came close. The closest configuration was priced, before shipping, at $1400 AFTER a discount of $385!!! And that was without the video card, fingerprint reader, nor the leather trim (good luck finding one). Similar stories at Sony and HP sites. Toshiba has one close, but without the video card, fingerprint reader, nor the leather trim for $1150.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

Pros: Really great product, especially for the price. I got the free 6 cell battery deal when I bought, but that was just icing on the cake. In general it's very fast, runs Aero and all the games I've played so far with no problem. Pretty good video card overall, exceptional with power conservation though. Like the guy below me said the leather is a really nice touch, between that and the non glossy finish it is not your typical fingerprint magnet. I really like the light colored keyboard which makes it easier to see in the dark. Minimal bloatware, most of it is useful anyway like the power conservation software, excellent! Fingerprint scanner is a plus. And rotating webcam is pretty cool. Overall great pc.

Cons: The dvd drive can be loud as hell. The speakers are not the greatest. The CPU fan spits out right by where your mouse hand sits (if ur right handed). Mouse that comes with it is corded (in the picture you can't tell). Touchpad scroll areas on side and bottom are touchy. However the pros far outweigh the cons.

Other Thoughts: I researched for almost a month on and off and asked opinions of probably ten people even more computer savvy than me and I chose this one. Everything works like it should and it comes with an additional year warranty card, in case something doesn't that you just have to mail in. I would buy this computer again in a heartbeat. It was everything that I wanted and for a great price.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing for the price

Pros: Amazing laptop for a little over 1k. Fast C2D processor and a dedicated graphics card that can play any game on the market right now...what more do you want. As a bonus it has 5 USB ports; DVI and VGA ports; and it has LEATHER!!!!!! It looks like a laptop that a Corporate CEO would carry and you get a free mouse and case. The 14" screen makes it very mobile and light weight. Great Laptop

Cons: The webcam is a bit pixelated and the speakers could've been louder.

Other Thoughts: This laptop defines ASUS's good quality and attention to detail. With the webcam looking like a latch and the cool leather; plus the sturdiness yet mobility makes it perfect for college or work. Go ASUS on another awesome product!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Sexy design, sturdy build, Nice Leather touch, the leather really makes it stand out from the typical laptops.

Very fast processor, Vista runs very smooth on this system. Nice screen with the touch of Asus display technology(Software based, really makes a difference on how the screen appeals to the eyes).

I got a free second battery.

The battery life is good since it is only a 6cell battery, I got almost 3 hours on battery saver.

With a 6cell battery, I would like to see other laptops with same spec beat the battery life on this asus.

Cons: Speakers can be better, but at that price range it is good.

Other Thoughts: Very cheap compare to other brand of laptops with similar spec. (Dell's entry level XPS for example, this asus can BLOWS IT OUT OF WATER penny per penny)

What was the reviewer below me thinking when he purchased this ASUS? Why is he so surprised at what he got? The dude clearly did not do any research. Don't get me wrong, this laptop is perfect in my option.

I got a really good laugh out the feedback, it made my day. The DUDE below me does not deserve this laptop!!!

The Video card is above average for normal home/school use, it is more than enough. MY ASUS shipped with the latest ATI driver, so I don't see any reason to uninstall it.

No Other brand of laptops come with Vista disk. It is a MIRACLE that this ASUS even come with both the restore disk and the restore partitions.

I wonder if the dude below me was looking to play crysis on this laptop when he purchased it. T.T;

3 out of 5 eggsvery solid laptop

Pros: sturdy build

very nice screen

great keyboard

fast processor

comes with case

Cons: awful video card

had multiple problems with BSOD from awful ATI drivers

battery life isn't great for a 14" screen

speakers are fairly quiet

leather case (why?)

Other Thoughts: Doesn't come with Vista Home Premium DVD, only restore disk which restores the laptop to the state it was in when it left the factory. I had quite a few problems trying to get rid of the preinstalled bloatware, and Asus cannot provide a clean install DVD. Overall, I think there are better deals out there, not much reason to buy this laptop. I couldn't stand the video problems anymore, so I sold it on the internet for quite a loss since Newegg doesn't issue refunds. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone unless it was under $1k.
