Pros: Beautiful screen, good asus programs, for instance the video/image capture program is actually decent. processor+4gb ram actually manages to make vista work correctly, numpad is really nice to have. good buttons, light up touchpad with functions is nice. pretty good GPU.

Cons: Battery life is bad. Wish asus made a 12 cell upgrade, as opposed to the 9. the mode button to make the touchpad light up and serve its other functions should be somewhere other than on the touchpad its self. I've trained myself to stop hitting it, but others have that problem when they use it.
HDMI port is picky about the angle the cord is in at, but that may just be my cord.

Other Thoughts: VERY durable. my dog managed to get his nose in the dangling power cord when I was carrying this, and basically rip it out of my hands, causing a very hard impact with the concrete 5 feet below.
it got two scratches, barely noticable, and the hinge covers fell off, but they were easy to put back on, the only lasting damage is that one is now slightly loose.
Not that I was worried, with Asus' EXCELLENT tech support and 1 year accidental warrenty.

Very good all around laptop, if you don't mind carrying a power cord everywhere :)

Pros: this notebook is better than most desktops. lots of RAM, big HD, vista is not bad at all, great res, core duo rocks. runs games fine. cod4, aoc, WoW. runs flash and maya with not hickups.

Cons: HOT HOT HOT. gets extremely hot when running games. the touch pad is annoying but you can turn it off with a touch of a button! fingerprint magnet! could have enjoyed 64-bit tho. battery life is not great.

Other Thoughts: those cons shouldnt be a problem at all. everything else is wonderful. definitely will buy from newegg again. thanks!

Good & Bad

Pros: Very fast, lots of disk space, lots of memory, lots of video memory, fast video, great for playing games. The number pad is a nice addition, though it takes getting used to. The multimedia touchpad is both very cool and somewhat annoying at the same time. I find that I accidentally activate the multimedia keypad while trying to move the mouse around (you tap on an area of the keypad to activate the multimedia controls). So as long as you can avoid that, it's great. It doesn't work while the screensaver is up. It's very quiet and while it blows fairly warm, it does so out the side and not in front into your lap like others I've seen. I got a Zalman notebook cooler with it and it seems to keep it cooler, though I didn't measure for exactness.

Cons: 15 days after ordering this laptop, it died. Everything froze up with a nice screeching noise and after that wouldn't boot up. A call (make that 15-20 calls before reaching someone) to Asus tech support got me someone (that spoke English!) that had me try a hardware reset (small little pinhole by front of laptop on bottom) which didn't work. I got an RMA and am hoping that the next one won't have any further problems.

Other Thoughts: While it was working it was really a very nice laptop. I'm hoping it was just a fluke, there's always a few bad items, and the next one will be fine. I'm not all that concerned, but will probably wait a few months before starting to put important data on this again.
