The M50Vm from Asus revolutionizes the way you get your entertainment on the go, and it can improve your privacy and productivity. The 15.4" screen has an AI Light feature which adjusts panel brightness depending on ambient lighting. They've also included their Splendid video technology with 5 modes and 3 skin tone settings to optimize the image depending on what you are viewing.
The webcam also works with face recognition software so you can log on with just a look, or for additional security use the fingerprint reader by the touchpad, which doubles as an audio visual control panel at the flick of a switch. The keyboard has a numeric keypad, something usually found in larger notebooks.
All of this functionality is great, but useless in isolation. So: there's a plethora of connection options, both wired and wireless. Circling the shell are 4xUSB, 1xFireWire, 1xRJ-11, 1xGigabit Ethernet, 1xHDMI and more. Wireless connectivity includes 802.11a/g/n and Bluetooth V2.1. A WiMAX transceiver lets you take advantage of the latest technologies.

Superb In Ever Way
- Pros: New processor series greatly improves battery life in comparison to the T-Series along with running much, MUCH cooler. NO reason to buy a laptop cooler, i've never seen a laptop run high end games with so little heat or noise. The computer in idle mode is completely silent. Hybrid Video card with the Nvidia 9600M performs wonderfully, and is the major source of heat for the system but is only activated when you need it and performs like a champ in Crysis and COD4 on High and Maxed out respectively. No bottom vents, all goes out the left side through a side-vent, except when in the latest games there is little heat and even then the heat is minimal and the case itself remains cool.
The logon options using facial recognition and fingerprint scanning are nifty. The design is elegant, solid feeling, and absolutely gorgous. Sound is also quite good for a laptop with Dolby. Touchpad is innovative with multimedia controls built into pad. Very little pre-loaded garbage-ware.
- Cons: Theres a mode activatin button for the touchpad to activate the media controls; I tend to accidentlly hit this while trying to scroll downwards, small problem but just annoying. Also the speakers are rather hard to hear even at max volume in loud ambient noise, they're rather quiet. Additionally, you can TELL it's a lower RPM HD when you're moving large files, not a huge drawback, also extends the battery life I suppose. I came from a PC with windows XP Media Center, and to me I find Vista a little more clunky, but this machine is more than enough to handle aero like a champ, haven't noticed any performace decrease with SP1 already in, this seems to have addressed many of the issues.
- Other Thoughts: There sheer amount of engineering, careful thought and quality that went into this design is amazing. You can adjust the webcam angle, the keys and keyboard are SOLID and have a very nice texture and feel, you just need to use it to get it. All the surfaces also feel rock sturdy, scratch resistant, and it never feels like it is going to catch on fire.
You get so much for your money! I will never buy anything but ASUS for laptops from now on, I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and actual CRAFTSMANSHIP that went into it. Buy it and you won't regret it.
Kudos to NewEgg, shipped same day and packed so that it probably could have survived an airdrop.
ASUS Intel P8400 Best laptop ever
- Pros: 1) Wonderful 8th generation (P series) Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor. It's definitely better than the (T Series!!).
2) 9600M GS graphics card runs Call of Duty 4, AoE III, and lots of other games great. 3) Great Screen, Great speakers, nice touchpad and keyboard. Built-in web cam and microphone. Lots of USB ports. Great placement for everything. 4) Runs fast, and the pricing is amazing, because usually this type of laptop should cost over 2300$. Yet it's half the price! Best Priced QUALITY laptop ever! 5) Appearance and settings are great. Even has a memory-card READER!
- Cons: 1) Microphone doesn't work very well. Have to get close to it.
2) Cannot adjust volume outside of the laptop (it has to be inside windows, graphically). 3) Nvidia Graphics card 9600M GS is AMAZING but it is not 1024 MB as it is claimed. It's actually 512 MB. Unless they have another explanation, dxdiag says it has 2,200 MB..?? But it runs great.
- Other Thoughts: ASUS makes amazing motherboards and it is no surprise they make the best laptops. Much better than Toshiba, and especially destroys Fujitsu and compaq and HP.

Great laptop
- Pros: This is a nice piece of equipment. It started like a charm, the screen is nice and clear with no dead pixels. Vista is snappy. Office 2007 runs well. I have no problems with the wireless whatsoever.
If you don't like the extra buttons on the trackpad they can be turned off and/or configured in the driver.
The provided laptop bag is actually pretty decent. The provide mouse appears to be a rebranded Logitech. There are some other goodies too that are sort of "fun".
- Cons: Shiny case makes fingerprints noticeable, but really - who cares.
Some crapware comes preinstalled. It is thankfully easy to remove (and not TOO plentiful).
- Other Thoughts: A good value for the price I paid ($999)!
On a full charge I get about 2 hours worth of net surfing in before the battery goes out. That's with the default power settings the laptop ships with.
If your trackpad seems jumpy and unresponsive be sure to download the graphics driver from Asus. Mine laptop shipped with a bad driver that had the screen locked at 17 or 18hz instead of 60 like it was supposed to be. The driver update fixed it and now everything is smooth.
The fingerprint reader can be cantankerous if you don't get it programmed in with some decent fingerprints. If you find that it isn't letting you log in, redo your scans and it should be ok after that.
So far so good
- Pros: Good looking unit, mouse and bag are beter than I had thought. It plays games well, yes you have to adjust setting for best FPS but I didn't buy it just for that. Great bang for your buck great quality.
- Cons: Vista 32! I can't believe they didn't put 64 vista on it.
fantastic computer
- Pros: Everything has been great on this computer so far. I like the full number pad. Sound has been good despite some bad reviews. I didn't have the 18 Hz problem like some did, but it was easy to register online with ASUS and download exactly the right driver. The fingerprint scan and face recognition work well. Everything runs well, Vista takes 30% of the RAM but that still leaves 2.8Gb of ram for me. Very little bloatware, only had to remove a few things.
- Cons: People I skype with had to turn their volume all the way up to hear me. I tried the microphone booster feature but that gave weird interference. Took a little bit to get used to the keyboard being shifted to the left to accomodate for the number pad.
- Other Thoughts: This computer has everything i want and at a really good price. I would have bought it for more money, but newegg outdid themselves. Speaking of, every purchase I've ever made with newegg has been absolutely top notch. Best prices, fastest shipment, best customer service (not that i've needed it).
