5 out of 5 eggsSmall and Amazing

Pros: Nvidia's 9300m GS w/ 256mb Ram
2 gb Ram
Easy to upgrade Ram and Hard Drive
Small and light
Blue tooth and 3 USB's

Cons: The only issue is the CPU but hey its a netbook so I guess for now its ok!
Vista but getting W7 ASAP
Needs some tweaking to get it work right!

Other Thoughts: OK here is the deal, had an Acer one but couldnt do much but use the internet and chat on yahoo.
Got this for 600 and now, Itunes, VLC, HI Def vids play well.
Even games like COD4 and Age Of Empires 3 play pretty good.
The trick is the Video card. Using Badaboom I can convert videos pretty cuz it uses the Gpu not the cpu.
On this netbook, there is an Use at your own risk, overclocker which I set mine to 1.9 ghz for when I am in need of some power but mostly using the GPU to handle most of the work, is awesome.
Vista is stupid and everyone knows it, so I wont go there, just set it to Vista Basic instead of Aero and it will be fine with all your visual needs.
Well my friends, I can not say much more but look if you need a small notebook and like to watch Videos, play some games or even take your entire Itunes library with you, this is perfect.

4 out of 5 eggsSmokes with an SSD

Pros: - Dedicated Graphics Card
- 2GB of RAM
- HDMI Port
- Nice Screen!

Cons: - Vista & Bloatware Preinstalled
- Limited Screen Resolution (1024x600)
- Hard Drive (5400 rpm)
- Poor Speaker Sound Quality

Other Thoughts: To anyone who buys one of these, I would suggest doing two things:
1) Get a new hard drive (7200 rpm, or a SSD)
2) Install Windows XP

I swapped out my hard drive for a SSD and installed an old copy of Windows XP I had kicking around. What a HUGE difference! The boot time dropped to seconds, and the battery life improved drastically. I was impressed with this thing when I first bought it, but these two changes turned this thing into a dream machine!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Netbook

Pros: After a years use no failures on any part of the system, runs every program and game I throw at it, basically every feature on a netbook users wishlist, plus the cool looks you get from people who don't know Asus.

Cons: battery life has declined a bit, but after almost a years daily use its to be expected. I think I may have a peice of dirt under my keyboard as my "a" button requires more force to push down then the rest.

Other Thoughts: I bought the N10 in the fall of last year and haven't looked back. I installed XP on it using a USB drive with no issues and ditched all the expressgate features. Despite the back and forth on the reviews with processing power I find the atom amazing. I have run many of the latest titles on this system and it has amazed me time and time again. Its not always speed deamon but it works as its design intended it.

I like it so much I plan on buying another one for my wife.

The only things I can think of for a wish list for the next model would be a spare internal mini pci-e slot, a slightly bigger screen (less bezel) to go 1024x768 native

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect.

Pros: -Very comfortable keyboard, however the right shift key is taking ME, time to get use to. May be fine for you.

-Packed with a GeForce 9300M GS.
I can run most modern games on this little laptop.

-Graphics switch to allow you to switch between the Geforce and the Intel Graphics. Intel gives you more battery life while Geforce is for better performance.

-Intel Atom processor. Very stable and strong processor. Its perfect, however I'm sure they could have used a stronger one.

- Small in Size. I can pretty much take it anywhere and be comfortable with typing.

Cons: -Windows Vista, Vista, vista, and vista.

-Vista takes forever to boot into. Possibly because of the slow HDD, but I'm not totally sure, I think it could just be Vista. Once Vista is up it stays at a comfortable speed.

-However if you plan on doing any type of gaming, get rid of Vista. Install Windows 7 or Windows XP.

Other Thoughts: I originally tried to load XP into the N10J via USB flash drive.
It didn't go to well. It messed the computer up big time. I had to use the recovery menu to re-install vista in the end.
The netbook doesn't come with a CD/DVD drive, but what do you expect from something this small.
So I recommend getting an external CD/DVD drive before attempting to install XP, just to avoid all problems.

Weird partitioning. It come with a partitioned drive of really weird portions (I think the second partition was 62.8 GBs).
When I used the recovery menu it allowed me to merge the 2 partitions. (I know i could have done it anyway without recovery, but being I was in the Recovery Menu, why not?)

2 out of 5 eggsstart up problems

Pros: Perfect size, great graphics, comfy keyboard for its size

Cons: trouble is this thing occasionally seems to stall when it's starting up or waking from sleep. Asus service people were pleasant helped fast, had me reload OS (which might be the trouble since it's Vista with NO upgrade on this model---beware! If only I'd waited a few weeks!!!) It's better but still occasionally takes up to five minutes to wake up. I'm returning it.

Other Thoughts: Now I get to find out how efficient newegg is with returns

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Netbook

Pros: I bought this for the ultra-portable nature of a netbook, but I wanted it to have enough horsepower to stay out of its own way as much as possible. It's one of very very few netbooks with a dedicated video chip and video memory and that was a key factor for me choosing it. It performs very well overall for what it is.

Cons: Boots extremely slowly, battery life seems a bit optimistic, graphics feel a bit CPU bound. Instruction manual refers to an "included external CD-Rom drive" that doesn't exist in the package.

Other Thoughts: The thing took literally an hour to set up thanks to a partially installed Windows Vista that comes scripted to install a LOT of OEMware stuff. Almost all of that stuff was easily uninstallable however. The wifi was a bit flakey initially, but after a Windows Update it improved tremendiously. (Obviously just old drivers pre-installed.)

4 out of 5 eggsASUS Support SNAFU

Pros: I totally agree with other comments regarding this machine. It has awsome specs; graphics, etc....
I thought the accidental damage waranty was great until I had to use it...kind of a bummer about the $100 rebate two months after I bought it

Cons: I sent this in under the accidental damage warranty(my bad) and first discovered this was a one-time opportunity. Not too bad hopefully i'm only an idiot once. I got it back after a week and they swapped my 6 cell batt with a 3 cell. I spoke with three different people so far and they dont understand this and are escalating. After turning on with the 3 cell batt, the screen is all flaky with noise and lines... hmmmm

Other Thoughts: Overall I would still recomend buying this from Newegg(the best!). But the jury is out on ASUS support.

5 out of 5 eggsMust have netbook!

Pros: Great netbook! powerful for its size with discrete GPU turned on. top notch performance and quality as you would expect from ASUS.
Performs awesome with windows XP!

Cons: slightly over priced! Replaced vista with XP. required some internet researching before I could find all the drivers. Not all drivers are available on the ASUS website.

Other Thoughts: overall - a five star machine - ASUS STANDARD ....

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I love this thing. It has all of the features of a full sized notebook, but in a smaller package. It can even play a plethora of games. Gentoo runs great minus the fingerprint reader at this time.

Cons: Windows Vista and a relatively slow hard drive.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus N10J - worlds best laptop

Pros: Powerful netbook - probably the best one out there (Asus wants you to think it's a "miniature notebook"...)
Performs beautifully with Windows XP installed. 2GB RAM and Nvidia 9300M GS allows me to run many modern games. Was impressed by the full-size keyboard. Includes some not-well-advertised goodies, such as the fingerprint reader, webcam, HDMI slot, on-screen magnifier key and bluetooth card. Well worth the buy for powerful portability! With the right settings you can expect 5-7 hours battery life. The carrying case is very simple but stylish, and serves its purpose well. Word of caution: Don't always just assume any netbook case can hold the Asus N10J. I bought a case from the "what other users that got this item are buying..." option and it shipped with the N10J. Turns out the battery on the back of the N10J makes it a little fatter than standard netbooks and thus it didn't zip up at all. Be careful.

Cons: Windows Vista. I'll give it this: the little laptop runs vista acceptably when you tune-down the "visual experience" of Vista, but the moment I switched back to XP (and yes, Asus provides ALL Windows XP drivers right on their site) I saw a ridiculous increase in performance immediately. Games like Battlefield II went from 4-10 FPS up to 60+. Elder Scrolls IV became playable. It's just a better idea unless you're 100% dependant on Vista (which I don't recommend anyone do...) You will need an external CD/DD drive or a USB memory stick / thumb drive to boot and install XP the first time. Another thing: straaaange HD partitioning. It's not like you boot it up and have 160 GB minus the vista install like the sticker says. You get two 79.8 GB disc drives in My Computer and one "hidden" 9GB partition. I still don't understand this, but I set it to one large partition when moving to XP. Also the HD is something like a 5400 RPM - its suitable but it could be quicker.

Other Thoughts: Just get one - if you're looking for a netbook and want more bang for the buck, go with this laptop. (If you don't have any means of getting Windows XP or you don't already have an install disc, be prepared for doing a lot of tweaking for sub-par performance!)
