Top of the line netbook!
- Pros: 9300m GS is great! it can play World In conflict, Crysis and more! It will even allow for 480P-720P H.264 decoding through Media Player Classic Home Cinema! Switchable GMA 950/Geforce 9300m GS allows for a perfect balance of Preformance and Battery Life. With GMA 950/Intel SpeedStep it is possible to get up to 5 hours of battery life. Webcam is great. Built in ambient light sensor (Fn+a) allows for a balance of screen brightness and battery longevity. Built in power 2 go power profile manager is very useful and has a built in "turbo mode" overclocking preset whereupon the Atom is overclocked to ~1760 MHZ which makes Hulu 360P playable. Built in Fingerprint reader is fantastic. Express gate boots to a usable menu in within 8 seconds. Keyboard feels natural. 320GB hard drive is incredible for a computer of this type. Vista runs very well once booted, especially with Google Chrome. Built in card reader/HDMI/VGA/Wireless N is superb.Overclocking is very easy!(unless your new to the concept
- Cons: 1:03 Seconds vista boot to logon time. More bloatware than appreciated is installed. Battery sticks out from main form of netbook. Heavier than expected. Expressgate has a terrible UI, with a terribly slow adaption of Firefox 2 as it's main browser. There really is no point in opening more than one tab through expressgate. Netbook gets hotter than it should. Bloatware cloggs up logon untill disabled. Hard drive comes partitioned into two partitions, although this is easy to deal with in vista. Asus built in animations are great eye candy but they can temporairily overburden the atom. Speakers are definetly not going to be used for a home theater. Face recognition logon doesnt really work. One more time, BLOATWARE (sorry Asus). In order to switch graphics you need to reboot. For some reason the keyboard switches to what I beleve to be mandarin at random intervals mode with no way to fix it other than rebooting. Price tag seems kinda hefty.
- Other Thoughts: Power Pack is realitivley tiny! Perfect for the gamer on the go or a smaller than a standard notebook desktop replacement. Anybody who buys one of these will most likely find n10user.com to be invaluable. I recommend that you uninstall bloatware and defrag when you first get one of these. Despite its bad rap vista runs surprisingly well on this thing, and it is able to take advantage of the 2GB of memory. Battery Life is superb even while gaming. Vista's power management really shines here. Screen looks great but seems as if it could be and inch wider and taller. The metallic look is great and the entire netbook remains shiny for quite a while. You can buy a battery that isnt officially supported by Asus but one that fits the N10 and can give it up to 10 hours of battery life. I love this thing, and it is an overall great laptop. Nice job Asus, Great Netbook. Price tag seems kinda hefty though.
N10J is the best!
- Pros: Touch typeable keyboard, crisp screen, excellent battery life. Switchable graphics.
- Cons: Switching GPUs requires a reboot. Mouse buttons are loud unless you press the top center of the button.
- Other Thoughts: The wireless works perfectly with Ubuntu (and all other Linux distros) -- it uses the ath9k driver, which doesn't come with most default installations. Just do a web search for "n10j linux" to find my howto guide which explains exactly how to get it working with Linux :)
Great Machine
- Pros: Small size, long battery life, good graphics and HDMI output.
- Cons: Small keyboard and no DVD drive.
- Other Thoughts: This thing is a powerhouse in a tiny container. I use it for day to day computing and travel. It is perfect little companion for travel or surfing while watching TV. I use it to play EVE Online and it handles it well even on my 65" big screen through the HDMI output. Handles video well and has plenty of storage to bring movies with you when you travel.
